Construction equipment is a very important factor for successful construction. Also, the cost for construction equipment is a major part of the cost of construction. Therefore, the estimation of the equipment cost is a critical task in construction planning. A formula for production rates shown in 'Standard Unit Labor' has been used to estimate construction equipment capability and cost. Although the performance of the equipment has improved over time, the variables in the formula have not been updated in a timely manner. Therefore, this paper has analyzed the preceding research, and performed several site visits to measure the cycle time of a backhoe and a loader. Construction equipment production rates were calculated with collected cycle times and variables given in 'Standard Unit Labor'. In addition, production rates were estimated considering the circumstances of various sites with the simulation program 'crystal ball.'

Although the second driving device of KTX, which consists of the wheel and the axle reduction gears unit, is a mechanically integrated structure, its preventive maintenance (PM) requires two separate intervals due to the different technical requirements. In particular, these subsystems perform attaching and detaching work simultaneously according to the maintenance directive. Therefore, to reduce the unnecessary amount of PM and high logistic availability of the train, it is important to optimize PM with regard to reliability-centered maintenance toward a cost-effective solution. In this study, fault tree analysis and reliability of the subsystems, considering the criticality of the components, were performed using the data derived from field data in maintenance. The cost optimization of the PM was derived from a genetic algorithm considering the target reliability and improvement factor. The cost optimization was derived from a maximum of the fitness function of the individual in generation. The optimal TBO of them using the genetic algorithm was 2.85x106 km, which is reduced to approximately 21% compared to the conventional method.
Objectives This study is conducted to estimate the cost paid by the public suffering from disease possibly caused by chemical and to examine the effect on public health. Methods Cost-benefit analysis is an important factor in analysis and decision-making and is an important policy decision tool in many countries. Cost-of-illness (COI), a kind of scale-based analysis method, estimates the potential value lost as a result of illness as a monetary unit and calculates the cost in terms of direct, indirect and psychological costs. This study estimates direct medical costs, transportation fees for hospitalization and outpatient treatment, and nursing fees through a number of patients suffering from disease caused by chemicals in order to analyze COI, taking into account the cost of productivity loss as an indirect cost. Results The total yearly cost of the diseases studied in 2012 is calculated as 77 million Korean won (KRW) per person. The direct and indirect costs being 52 million KRW and 23 million KRW, respectively. Within the total cost of illness, mental and behavioral disability costs amounted to 16 million KRW, relevant blood immunological parameters costs were 7.4 million KRW, and disease of the nervous system costs were 6.7 million KRW. Conclusions This study reports on a survey conducted by experts regarding diseases possibly caused by chemicals and estimates the cost for the general public. The results can be used to formulate a basic report for a social-economic evaluation of the permitted use of chemicals and limits of usage.

It is important to estimate the optimal construction cost at the early stage of the project. In this regard, conceptual cost estimate is an important factor for estimate optimal construction cost. However, domestic conceptual cost estimate are only used as cost per unit area according to the building type, and it's accuracy is not high. Hence, the purpose of this study is to calculate the approximate quantity and cost for reinforcing bars, concrete, and formwork by presenting a regression formula based on the total floor area of the common work items in the frame work. In order to verify the accuracy and validity of the regression formula presented in this study, a comparative analysis was performed by applying the regression formula and the traditional approximate quantity take-off method to real cases. As a result, the estimated error rate of the traditional method was -102~+55%, and exceeded the estimated conceptual cost estimate accuracy range of -50~+100% suggested by AACE(American Association of Cost Engineering). On the other hand, the error rate of the regression formula method presented in this study was -6.4~+11.62%. This can be used not only for conceptual cost estimate range of accuracy, but also for detailed estimates. However, it is necessary to analyze the factors that affect the unit price as well as quantity in order to calculate the appropriate cost.

A single-phase uninterruptible power supply system equipped with a superconducting magnet energy storage unit is proposed to achieve a simple circuit configuration and higher system reliability. It reduces a number of switching devices by applying a common-arm scheme. Removing some switches or substituting passive elements for active switches can increase the sophistication and reduces degree of freedom in control strategy. However, high-performance DSP controller can execute the complicated control task with no additional cost. Operational principles to normal, stored-energy, and bypass mode are discussed in detail. The validity of the proposed system is verified by experimental results.
Capacitor switching is essential for the economic operation, and proper voltage control of KOREA electric utility distribution system. Voltage transients produced by capacitor switching (around 2.0 per unit at substation and 2.5 or less per unit at customer site, and lasting less then 1ms) do not have the magnitude or duration to interfere with the operation of computers, but they do disrupt the operation of adjustable speed drivers. The result of our research, ASD manufacturers should team from the computer industry and design products that will operate satisfactory in the electrical envelopment in which they will be placed. In this case history, the inductors on the input to ADSs in order to prevent nuisance tripping from capacitor switching(and other causes within the apartment) proved to be an effective, low-cost solution.
In this research, schedule optimization is defined as balancing the number of workers while keeping the demand and needs of the project resources, creating the perfect schedule for each activity. Therefore, when one optimizes a schedule, multiple potentials of schedule changes are assessed to get an instant view of changes that avoid any over and under staffing while maximizing productivity levels for the available labor cost. Optimizing the number of workers in the scheduling process is not a simple task since it usually involves many different factors to be considered such as the development of quantity take-offs, cost estimating, scheduling, direct/indirect costs, and borrowing costs in cash flow while each factor affecting the others simultaneously. That is why the optimization process usually requires complex computational simulations/modeling. This research attempts to find an optimal selection of daily maximum workers in a project while considering the impacts of other factors at the same time through OPEN BIM based multiple computer simulations in resource leveling. This paper integrates several different processes such as quantity take-offs, cost estimating, and scheduling processes through computer aided simulations and prediction in generating/comparing different outcomes of each process. To achieve interoperability among different simulation processes, this research utilized data exchanges supported by building SMART-IFC effort in automating the data extraction and retrieval. Numerous computer simulations were run, which included necessary aspects of construction scheduling, to produce sufficient alternatives for a given project.

Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) is a systematic optimization process that allows users to compare different alternatives and to determine if a project is a solid investment. Many state DOTs have included CBA in their pavement management systems (PMSs) to help allocate state funds for maintenance, rehabilitation, resurfacing, and reconstruction of pavements. In a typical CBA, each pavement type has an assigned weight factor which represents the level of importance of this pavement type. To conduct an accurate CBA, it is essential to select appropriate weight factors. Arbitrarily assigning weights factors to pavements can lead to biased and inaccurate funding allocation decisions. The purpose for this paper is to outline a method to develop an ideal set of weight factors that can be utilized to conduct more accurate CBA. To this end, a matrix of all possible weight factors sets was developed. CBA was conducted for each set of weight factors to obtain a population of possible optimization solutions. Then a regression analysis was performed to establish the relationship between benefit and weight factors. Finally, a multi-objective genetic algorithm was applied to select the optimal set of weight factors. The findings from this study can be used by state DOTs to strategically manage their roadway systems in a cost effective manner.
This study represents the methodology for feasibility analysis of small hydro power SHP plant. Cumulative density function of Weibull distribution and Thiessen method were adopted to decide flow duration curve at SHP candidate site. The perfomance prediction model and construction cost estimation model for tunnel-type SHP plant were developed. Eight tunnel -type SHP candidate sites existing on Han-river were selected and surveyed for actual site reconnaissance. The performance characteristics and economical feasibility for these sites were analyzed by using developed models. As a result, it was found that the optimum design flowrate with the lowest unit generation cost for tunel-type SHP candidate site were the flowrate concerming with between 20% and 30% of time ratio on the flow duration curve. Additionally, primary design specifications such as design flowrate, effective head, capacity, annual averageload factor, annual electricity production were estimated and discussed for eight surveyed SHP candidate sites.

In this paper, an INS compensation algorithm for auto sailing system is proposed, where low cost IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) is used for measuring the accelerometer data. First, we denote the basic INS algorithm with IMU and show that how to compensate the error of position by using low cost IMU. Second, in considering the ship's characteristic and ocean environments, we consider with a factor as a periodic external disturbance which effects to the exact position. To develop the compensation algorithm, we use a repetitive method to reduce the external environment changes. Lastly, we verify the proposed algorithm by using experiments results.
