Development of Uninterruptible Power Supply with Voltage Sag Restorer Function (순시전압강하 보상 기능을 가지는 무정전전원공급장치의 개발)

  • In this paper, UPS, with a built-in instantaneous sag drop compensation features, was developed to improve performance. The improved UPS, using instantaneous moving average method, compensates by quickly measuring the voltage and series inverter of half-bridge type, using line-interactive method that links with the voltage of the battery and power source, was developed. In addition, by developing a parallel inverter that uses a high-efficiency PWM switching method, overall UPS system was enhanced. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, single-phase 5[kVA] UPS systems were designed and the experimental system was constructed. The low-cost type of Cortex-M3 module CPU STM32F103R8T6 (32[bit]) is attached and the switching time of mode transfer was set within 4 [ms]. THD of the linear load operates in less than 3[%], and the stability of the output voltage operates in approximately ${\pm}2[%]$ range. The superior performance of the operations was confirmed with the system set as above.

  • 무정전전원장치(UPS: Uninterruptible Power Supply)는 정전 등의 사고가 발생할 때 양질의 전원을 부하에 공급하는 장치이다. 무정전전원장치의 구성은 크게 역률개선회로, 인버터, battery charger, battery discharger부로 크게 4개로 나눌 수 있다. 그 중 정전 등의 사고발생 시 battery에 충전되었던 에너지를 인버터 부로 공급하여야하며 이를 담당하는 부분이 battery discharger부이다. battery의 전압은 비교적 낮은 전압이며 인버터의 입력에 필요한 전압은 비교적 큰 전압이기 때문에 승압형 컨버터가 필요하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 UPS battery discharger용 3KW급 LLC 공진형 컨버터를 설계하고 실험 검증하였다.

  • The recent growth in the use of impactive and nonlinear loads, electronic devices sensitive to power quality has caused many power quality problems. Recently, in power system, not only the reliability of the power supply but also the DVR(Dynamic Voltage Restorer) are being studied more and more. The DVR is a series compensator which can instantaneously compensate a voltage variation in supply side, and is a more effective than a existing UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supply) which can be only used in limited range of loads such as single load. Hence, in this paper, a study of inverter side L-C filter output Voltage for DVR is discussed.

  • UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supply) have been used to improve power source quality as well as to protect critical loads such as computer, industrial system, medical equipment, etc, by providing clean and uninterrupted power under power supply disturbance or interruptions. But UPS is bulky because batteries. So, a UPS size issue has received the attention in the power electronics industry. This paper proposed an implementation of the computer power supply with a bulit-in UPS controlled by the one-chip microprocessor to minimize UPS size. The experimental results verified the proposed SMPS with a bulit-in UPS for computer.

Improved DC-DC Bidirectional Converter (개선된 DC-DC 양방향 컨버터)

  • Since the introduction of electronically controlled engines and electric propulsion ships, the need for an uninterruptible power supply for emergency power supply devices that use batteries has gained importance. The bidirectional converter in such emergency power supply devices is a crucial component. This paper proposes, a topology for an improved DC-DC bidirectional converter that is characterized by a high voltage conversion ratio and low voltage stress of switches. To confirm the performance of the converter, a computer simulation was executed with PSIM software. The conversion ratio of the proposed converter was found to be four times higher than the conventional boost converter in step-up mode and one-fourth that of the conventional buck converter in step-down mode, and the voltage stress of the switches was one-fourth of the high-side voltage. Moreover, the proposed converter was confirmed to be able to distribute equal currents between two interleaved modules without using any extra current-sharing control method because of the charge balance of its blocking capacitors.

  • Internet Data Centers (IDC), as essential facilities for modern IT industry, typically have scores of MW of concentrated electric loads. Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) are necessary for the power feed system of IDCs because of stable power requirement. Thus, conventional AC power feed systems of IDCs have three cascaded power conversion stages such as (AC-DC), (DC-AC), and (AC-DC), which results in very low conversion efficiency. On the contrary, DC power feed systems need just a single power conversion stage (AC-DC) supplying AC mains power to DC server loads, which gives comparatively high conversion efficiency and reliability. This paper compares the efficiencies between 220V AC power feed system and 300V DC power feed system on equal load conditions which were established in Mok-Dong IDC of Korea Telecom company (KT). Experimental results show that the total operation efficiency of the 300V DC power feed system is around 15% higher than that of the 220V AC power feed system.

The provision of an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is necessary for the power feed system of IDCs owing to the need for stable power. This paper compares the efficiencies of a 220V AC power feed system with those of a 300V DC power feed system under equal load conditions, as established by the Mok-Dong IDC of Korea Telecom Co. Ltd. (KT). Experimental results show that the total operation efficiency of the 300V DC power feed system is approximately 15% higher than that of the 220V AC power feed system.

  • The concept and results of a simple constant switching frequency delta modulation scheme suitable for DC-AC power conversion in uninterruptable power supply (UPS) applications are presented. Unlike the traditional delta modulation scheme, the scheme has a well defined harmonic spectrum, resulting in a simple filter design and reduced radio interference.

  • 엘리베이터의 경우 정전 시 승객을 안전하게 구출하기 위한 장치가 필요하다. 이를 위하여 Auto Rescue Device(ARD) 혹은 Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS)가 엘리베이터에 설치된다. ARD는 정전 시 배터리의 전압을 승압하여 인버터의 DC 링크 전압을 유지한다. 만약 배터리의 전압보다 DC 링크 전압이 2배 이상 클 경우 일반적인 부스트 컨버터는 효율 등의 문제로 사용이 어렵다. 이에 본 논문에서는 ARD의 특성을 고려한 LLC 공진형 컨버터의 설계 방안에 대하여 서술하였다. 또한 이를 모의실험을 통하여 검증하였다.

  • Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS) Systems are widely used in a varietyof fields as highly reliable power sources. This paper describes the operation and performance of an UPS using sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)techniques. A newly developed UPS adopted switching element -power TR, power MOSFET, IGBT- is introduced. Experimental results showed that sinusoidal PWM techniques have good features for UPS systems.
