The effects of flow interaction between adjacent sprays in twin-spray system on the spatial distribution of injected liquid (water) and drop size distribution in condensable (steam) environment were carefully observed through experiments. The spatial distribution of injected liquid in twin-spray system appears to be more uniform than the simple superposition of the spatial distributions of liquid obtained from each individual spray. Drop size distribution was obtained by using the immersion sampling technique. It was found that, in the twin-spray, the larger numbers of small drops are collected throughout the spraying region due to the increase of entrainment velocity of ambient steam compared with the case of simple superposition of each individual spray. Moreover, in the overlapped portion of the twin-spray, the drop size distribution was changed also due to the collision between large drops. As a result, the behavior of twin-spray system (and eventually multiple-spray system) can not be predicted precisely by simple superposition of the behaviors of each constituting spray. Hence, for the design of multiple spray system, the effect of flow interaction between sprays should be taken into account seriously.
The effect of fuel injection spray on engine performance has been known as one of the major concerns for improving fuel economy and reducing emissions. In general, reducing the spray droplet size could prevent HC emission in gasoline engine. As far as PFI (Port Fuel Injection) gasoline engine is concerned, the mixture of air and fuel may not be uniform under a certain condition, because breakup and production of spray droplets are made in a short distance between the fuel injector and intake valve. This study, by constituting PFI gasoline spray system, was performed to study the transient spray characteristics and dynamic behavior of droplets from 2hole 2spray type injector used in DOHC gasoline engine. Mean droplet size and optical concentration in accordance with various conditions were measured by LDPA and CCD camera. Through this study, the variation of drop size and optical concentration could be used for understanding the behavior of unsteady spray was declared and the existing the small droplets between each pulse spray could be estimated caused to the development of wall film was conformed.
This study is focussed on the investigation of spray characteristics from the high pressure gasoline injector for the application of gasoline direct injection engine. For the analysis of spray structure of high pressure gasoline injector; the laser scattering method with a Nd-Yag laser and the Phase Doppler particle analyzer system were applied to observe the spray development and the measurement of the droplet size and velocity of the spray, respectively. Also spatial velocity distribution of the spray droplet was measured by use of the particle image velocity system. Experimental results show that high pressure gasoline injector shapes the hollow-cone spray, and produce the upward ring shaped vortex on the spray surface region. This upward ring shaped vortex promotes the secondary atomization of fuel droplets and contributes to a uniform distribution of fuel droplets. Most of fuel droplets are distributed under 31$\mu m$ of the mean droplet size (SMD) and the frequency distribution of the droplet size under 25$\mu m$ is over 95% at 7 MPa of injection pressure. According to the experimental results of PIV system, the flow patterns of the droplets velocity distribution in spray region are in good agreement with the spray macroscopic behaviors obtained from the visualization investigation.
Due to increasingly strict emission regulations for carbon-based fuels in the shipping industry, there is a significant motivation to investigate the alternative fuel. Ammonia is one of the attractive alternative fuels as a carbon-free fuel. Since ammonia has different properties such as high vapor pressure and low boiling point compared to conventional fuels, further research into ammonia spray behavior is important. In this work, the spray characteristics of ammonia and other fluids (ethanol, n-decane) were compared by using numerical simulation. The results show that the spray characteristics of ammonia differs from those of the others due to the occurrence of flash boiling. The narrow-dispersed spray with accelerated velocity at the center have been observed for ammonia. It is also found that droplets of ammonia achieve smaller diameter with more uniform distribution, leading to better atomization behavior compared to the others.

The static pressure distribution, atomization characteristics and velocity distribution of tapered nozzle swirl spray is analyzed and then compared with original swirl spray. The static pressure distribution inside the swirl spray is measured using a piezoresistive pressure transducer. Phase Doppler anemometry (PDA) is applied to measure and analyze the droplet size and velocity distribution of tapered nozzle and original swirl spray. The static pressure inside the spray shows the lower value compared to the atmospheric pressure and this pressure drop is getting attenuated as the taper angle is increased. The droplet size of tapered nozzle spray shows similar value compared to the original swirl spray at the horizontal mainstream while it shows increased value at vertical mainstream. The deteriorated atomization characteristics of tapered nozzle spray is improved by applying high fuel temperature injection without causing the spray collapse. The velocity results show that the larger portion of fuel is positioned with higher injection velocity, and the smaller portion of fuel is positioned with lower injection velocity with causing spatially non-uniform mixture distribution.

Purpose: This study determines the spray characteristics and effective spray width of a tractor-mounted commercial boom sprayer through experiments. Methods: Performance tests were conducted to investigate the spray characteristics of the nozzles on a commercial boom sprayer. The flow rate and spray width of a single nozzle were measured at three levels of spray pressure (0.5, 0.7, and 1.0 MPa) and spray height (15, 30, and 45 cm), respectively. The average value of three repetition tests was used as the representative value. A coefficient of variation (CV) was used as an index of spray uniformity, and the width that guarantees CV values of approximately 15% was determined as the effective spray width. The spray characteristics of the overall boom sprayer were derived analytically by superimposing the spray characteristics of a single nozzle. Results: The test results for a single nozzle showed that the spray width tended to increase as the spray height and spray pressure increased. The effective spray width for a single nozzle was the largest at a spray pressure of 1.0 MPa and spray height of 45 cm, which resulted in a coverage of 84 cm of width. The effective spray width for the entire boom sprayer was also the largest at the spray pressure of 1.0 MPa and spray height of 45 cm, with a magnitude of 424.5 cm. The chemical spraying work in an actual field was simulated by applying a spray width of 400 cm. As a result of the operation for three swaths, the CV value was less than 10% for 1,200 cm of the overall spray width, which meant that uniform application was achieved. Conclusions: It was reasonable to set the effective spray width of the boom sprayer used in this study to 400 cm.
This study was conducted to find the design factors of spraying device of the boom sprayer for low volume application. Specific objectives of this study were 1) to select proper nozzles for broadcast spraying and row crop spraying by the nozzle spray characterisic experiment, and 2) to investigate the coverage characteristic of rice plant at the row crop spraying. The results of this study are summarized as follows. (1) From the tested results on the droplet diameter spectrum and spray pattern the standard flat-fan nozzle and drift guard nozzle were judged as appropriate for the broadcasting. Even flat-fan nozzle showed similar span values to standard flat-fan nozzles and drift guard nozzle : however, the nozzles were found to be inappropriate for broadcasting because of their spray pattern. Hollow cone nozzle showed relatively small span values and uniform spray pattern. (2) For the upper and lower sides of the rice plants, coverage rates of even flat-fan nozzles and hollow cone nozzles were maximum at the second row, but decreased rapidly after the third row. For the middle side of the rice plants, coverage rates of them were maximum at the first row, but decreased rapidly. When one nozzle was tested, C.V. values were in the range of 90~160% and 60~160% on entire heights of rice plant for even flat-fan nozzles and hollow cone nozzles respectively. C.V. values at other parts were poor. Spray coverage rate at the middle part was improved by overlapping the nozzles whereas there was little difference on the upper and lower part of rice plants. (3) For spraying lower part of rice plant between rows, even flat-fan nozzles and hollow cone nozzle were judged as appropriate, but in order to ensure the uniform coverage, distance between nozzles, recommended to be less than 90cm.

Barium titanate ($BaTiO_3$) particles were prepared by spray pyrolysis from spray solution containing organic additives. The effects of the type and amount of organic precursors on the crystal structure and morphology of the $BaTiO_3$ particles were investigated. It was found that the morphology of $BaTiO_3$ particles before and after calcination depended on the type of organic additives such as citric acid, ethylene glycol and polyethylene glycol. Among these organic additives, citric acid was the most effective to prepare $BaTiO_3$ particles with nano-structured morphology consisting with uniform size nanometer particles after calcination. It was also found that the phase transformability of the metastable cubic phase to the tetragonal one during calcination could be improved by increasing the content of citric acid in the spray solution. As a result, $BaTiO_3$ particles prepared from spray solution containing high concentration of citric acid had good tetragonality, uniform and fine size, and high BET surface area after calcination. $BaTiO_3$ particles prepared by spray pyrolysis had nanometer size and uniform morphology after simple ball milling process.
In this work, numerical parametric studies on spray combustion have been conducted. In simulation of turbulence, RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}model$ is adopted. Initial spray distribution is specified by Rosin-Rammler distribution function. Eddy break-up model is adopted as a combustion model. The parameters considered are inlet air temperature, swirl number, and SMD. With higher inlet air temperature, the axial velocities are increased and penetration of primary jet is stronger than that of lower inlet air temperature and temperature at the exit of combustor is more uniform. Combustion efficiency is improved with high inlet air temperature. The effect of swirl number on flow field is not significant. It affect only recirculation zone. So temperature at upstream of combustor is influenced. Combustion efficiency deteriorate as SMD of fuel spray increase.
