  • Fatigue, the birth and growth of cracks in metal parts subjected to repeated loading, has been a problem plaguing engineers since the Industrial Revolution and the advent of rotating or reciprocating machinery. Designing against metal fatigue was studied briefly in several aspects. Examples of fatigue failures were shown. Fatigue was classified by loading: uniaxial Fatigue, multiaxial fatigue, cumulative fatigue da¬mage. Fatigue design criteria were discussed: Infinite-Life Design, Safe-Life Design, Fail-Safe Design, and Damage Tolerant Design. Mitigation of notch effects by design, improvement of fatigue strength of metal parts by residual stress and surface finishing were discussed. Relative fatigue beha¬vior was studied under various environmantal conditions. Especially the effects of corrosion, temperature, fretting, and irradiation were covered.

  • TPE is used as alternative for rubber, the best example is the weather strip for automobile. The nonlinear material properties of weather strip were important to predict the behaviors of weather strip. Uniaxial tension and equi-biaxial tension tests were performed to achieve the nonlinear material constant and stress-strain curves. The nonlinear material constant of weather strip is evaluated by using the nonlinear finite element analysis. In this paper, the prediction for weather strip is analyzed by using commercial finite element program, ANSYS. The nonlinear finite element analysis of weather strip is executed to predict the behavior of weather strip for automobile.

  • Several extensions to the Thelandersson phenomenological model for concrete under transient high temperatures are explored. These include novel expressions for the temperature degradation of the elastic modulus and the temperature dependency of the coefficient of the free thermal strain. Furthermore, a coefficient of thermo mechanical strain is proposed as a bi-linear function of temperature. Good qualitative agreement with various test results taken from the literature is demonstrated. Further extensions include the effects of plastic straining and temperature dependent Poisson's ratio. The models performance is illustrated on several simple benchmark problems under uniaxial and biaxial stress states.

  • Mechanical behavior of copper Nanowire is investigated, An FCC Nanowire model composed of 1,408 atoms is used for NID simulation, Simulations are performed within NVT ensemble setting without periodic boundary conditions, Nose-Poincare MD algorithm is employed to guarantee preservation of Hamiltonian. Numerical tensile tests are carried out with constant strain rate, Stress-strain curve is constructed from the calculated Cauchy stresses and specified strain values, Non-linear behavior appears around $\varepsilon$=0.064, At this instance, starting of structural reorientations are observed.

  • Social requirements to the civil and building structures have been changed in accordance with the social and economic progress. It is very important to develop the innovative structural materials and tecnology that the social requirements appropriately. Ductility of High Performance Fiber Reinforced cementitious Composites (HPFRCC), which exhibit strain hardening and multiple crackling characteristics under the uniaxial tensile stress are drastically improved. Because ductility in tensile test are very different according to specimen shapes, three types of the direct tensile test are performed. The tensile test are performed using the tensile test specimen, dummbell-shaped specimen, and cylinder specimen. As a result, tensile performance in HPFRCC is very good comparing to cylinder specimen because of direction characteristics of fibers. It is necessary to clarify the examination method of suiting to the usage.

  • Uniaxial tension test of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) bar reinforced concrete prisms was performed. The objective was to investigate the adequate cover thickness of the GFRP rebars. The tension stiffening effect of GFRP bar reinforced concrete was also studied. The test variables included rebar types (conventional steel rebar and two different GFRP rebars) and cover thicknesses (five different cover thicknesses ranging between 1-3db). Normal strength concrete was used. Cracking patterns on concrete surface and cracking loads were careful1y observed during the direct tensile test. The test results indicated that the adequate cover thickness of the GFRP rebars may even be larger than that of the steel rebars and that the cover thickness of 2db commonly specified for the GFRP rebars may not be large enough. The tension stiffening effect of the GFRP rebars was also quantified and documented from the test results.

  • This paper presents a simple and reliable constitutive model for predicting the nonlinear response of reinforced concrete subjected to general membrane loadings. Based on the concept of equivalent uniaxial strain, constitutive relations of concrete are presented in the axes of orthotropy. The behavior of cracked concrete is described by a system of orthogonal cracks, which follows the principal strain directions and rotates according to the loading history. Simple hysteretic rules defining the cyclic stress-strain curves of concrete and steel are used. In addition, the stiffness and strength degradation of cracked concrete is included in the formulation. Correlation studies between analytical results and experimental values from idealized shear panel tests are conducted with the objective to establish the validity of the proposed model.

  • An analytical model which can simulate the post-cracking nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) members such as bars and panels subjected to uniaxial and biaxial tensile stresses is presented. The proposed model includes the description of biaxial failure criteria and the average stress-strain relation of reinforcing steel. Based on strain distribution functions of steel and concrete after cracking, average response of an embedded reinforcement, a criterion to consider the tension-stiffening effect is proposed using the concept of average stresses and strains. The validity of the introduced model is established by comparing the analytical predictions for reinforced concrete tension members with results from experimental studies. Finally, correlation studies between analytical results and experimental data from biaxial tension test are conducted with the objective to establish the validity of the proposed models and identify the significance of various effects on the response of biaxially loaded reinforced concrete panels.

  • According to former studies, the mechanical properties of reinforced concrete filled tubular steel (RCFT) columns differed greatly from that of concrete filled steel tubular (CFT) columns because of interaction of inserted reinforcement in RCFT. Employing an experiment-based verification policy, a general FE nonlinear analysis model was developed to analyze the mechanical behavior and failure mechanism of RCFT columns under uniaxial compression. The reasonable stress-strain relationships were suggested for confined concrete, reinforcements and steel tube in the model. The mechanism for shear failure of concrete core was found out in the numerical simulation, and a none-conventional method and equation for evaluating the confinement effect of RCFT were proposed.

  • In this work, effects of hyper-elastic rubber material properties on the indentation load-deflection curve and subindenter deformation are first examined via [mite element (FE) analyses. An optimal data acquisition spot is selected, which features maximum strain energy density and negligible frictional effect. We then contrive two normalized functions. which map an indentation load vs. deflection curve into a strain energy density vs. first invariant curve. From the strain energy density vs. first invariant curve, we can extract the rubber material properties. This new spherical indentation approach produces the rubber material properties in a manner more effective than the common uniaxial tensile/compression tests. The indentation approach successfully measures the rubber material properties and the corresponding nominal stress.strain curve with an average error less than 3%.
