Power Generating Characteristics of Anode-Supported SOFC fabricated by Uni-Axial Pressing and Screen Printing (일축가압/스크린인쇄 공정에 의해 제조된 음극지지형 SOFC의 출력특성)

  • To enhance the performance of anode-supported SOFC, single cell fabrication procedure was changed for better and resulting power generating characteristics of single cell were investigated. Liquid condensation process was employed for the granulation of NiO/YSZ powder mixture and the produced powder granules were compacted into anode green substrate by uni-axial pressing. YSZ electrolyte was printed on green substrate via screen-printing method and co-fired at 1400$^{\circ}C$ for 3 h. LSM/YSZ composite cathode of which the composition and heat treatment condition was adjusted to minimize the polarization#resistance with AC-impedance spectroscopy, was screen printed. The final single cell size from this multi-step procedure was 5${\times}$5 $\textrm{cm}^2$ and 10${\times}$10 $\textrm{cm}^2$. The maximum power densities of 5${\times}$5 and 10${\times}$10 single cells were about 0.45 W/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 0.22 W/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 800$^{\circ}C$, which are two times superior than those from single cells fabricated by the conventional process in previous our work.

Thermal Emissivity Changes as a Function of Degree of Flakes Alignment on the Graphite Surface (흑연표면의 열방사율 측정시 결정립 배향성의 영향)

  • This study is the research on the thermal emissivity depending on the bulk graphite's alignment degree. Bulk graphites were manufactured by uni-axial pressing and subsequent heat treatment of natural graphite flakes with organic binder. The samples were prepared to be $0^{\circ}$ (relative to the 002 c-face), $45^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ (relative to the 100 a-face) for measuring alignment degree. The alignment degree of the sample was measured by XRD. The thermal emissivity was measured by infrared thermal image camera at $100^{\circ}C$ and compared with the value obtained by Infrared spectroscopy. The alignment degree and thermal emissivity of $0^{\circ}$ sample were measured to be 0 and 0.70 respectively. And those of $90^{\circ}$ sample were 0.73 and 0.80 respectively. The emissivity value was correlated with obtained by IR spectroscopy. Therefore it was considered that the thermal emissivity of the bulk graphite is correlated with the alignment degree.

Synthesis of Mullite from Kaolin and Industrial By-Products (Kaolin과 산업부산물을 이용한 Mullite 합성)

  • Mullite was synthesized by adding industrial by-products, Al(OH)3 and boehmite, to a natural kaolin of pink A-grade. The attrition milling method, which has simultaneously milling and mixing effects, was carried out. The specimens were formed by uni-axial pressing of 1.5 ton/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and then fired. When the Al(OH)3 was added, the flexural strength of 71.8 wt% Al2O3 specimen fired at 1600$^{\circ}C$ for 4 hrs was 22.3 MPa and the amount of synthesized of 71.8 wt% Al2O3 specimen fired at 1600$^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs was about 85%. When the boehmite was added, the flexural strength of 68 wt% Al2O3 speciment fired at 1600$^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs was 147 MPa, and the high purity mullite of about 95% was synthesized for 71.8 wt% Al2O3 specimen fired at 1600$^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs.

Fabrication of $MgB_2$ Sheet by Powder Rolling Method (분말압연 공정에 의한 $MgB_2$ 판재 제조)

  • [ $MgB_2$ ]superconducting sheets have been fabricated using powder roll compaction method. Sheet-type $MgB_2$ bulk samples were successfully fabricated using the pre-reacted $MgB_2$ powders. In this work, $MgB_2$ powders were compacted by two rotating rolls and squeezed out as a form of $MgB_2$ sheets of ~1 mm thickness. The rolling speed of 0.3-0.7 rpm and the gap distance of 0.3-0.8 mm between the two rollers were carefully controlled to get a full compaction of the powders into bulk $MgB_2$ sheets. The densities of $MgB_2$ sheets were 1.98-2.05 g/$cm^3$, which is 75.44-77.99 % of the theoretical value of 2.63 g/$cm^3$. And the density comparison was made compared to those of typical $MgB_2$ bulks from uni-axial pressing and $MgB_2$ wires from Powder-In-Tube processing.

Effects of Particle Size of Al2O3 on the Mechanical Properties and Micro-Structures of Al2O3-3YSZ Composites (Al2O3-3YSZ 복합체의 미세구조 및 기계적 특성에 대한 Al2O3 분말 크기의 영향)

  • 3YSZ + (x) $Al_2O_3$ composites (x = 20, 40, 60, 80 wt%) were fabricated and the influences of particle sizes of $Al_2O_3$ on their microstructures and mechanical properties were investigated with XRD, SEM, vickers hardness and fracture toughness. $Al_2O_3$-3YSZ composites containing $Al_2O_3$ powder of a $0.3{\mu}m$ and an $1.0{\mu}m$, which are here in after named as $Al_2O_3$($0.3{\mu}m$)-3YSZ and $Al_2O_3$($1.0{\mu}m$)-3YSZ, respectively, were made by mixing raw materials, uni-axial pressing and sintering at $1,400^{\circ}C$, $1,500^{\circ}C$, and $1,600^{\circ}C$. $Al_2O_3$($0.3{\mu}m$)-3YSZ composites show the higher density and the better mechanical properties than $Al_2O_3$($1.0{\mu}m$)-3YSZ composites. The Vickers hardness of the $Al_2O_3$($0.3{\mu}m$)-3YSZ composites show a peak value of 1,997 Hv at the content of 60 wt% $Al_2O_3$, which is a slightly higher value in comparison with 1,938 Hv of the $Al_2O_3$($1.0{\mu}m$)-3YSZ composite. However, the fracture toughness of $Al_2O_3$-3YSZ composites monotonically increases with decreasing the content of $Al_2O_3$ without any peak values. $Al_2O_3$($0.3{\mu}m$)-3YSZ and $Al_2O_3$($1.0{\mu}m$)-3YSZ composites sintered at $1,600^{\circ}C$ have a maximum value of a $6.9MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ and a $6.2MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, respectively at the composition of containing 20 wt% $Al_2O_3$. It should be noticed that the mechanical properties and the sintering density of the $Al_2O_3$-3YSZ composites can be enhanced by using more fine $Al_2O_3$ powder due to their denser microstructure and smaller grain size.
