Review of the installable area of multi-utility tunnel using feasibility assessment indexes (타당성 평가지표를 활용한 터널식 공동구 설치가능지역 검토)

  • In this paper, The study was conducted on the method to roughly determine the area and length of the multi-utility tunnel before the planning and design phase of the multi-utility tunnel construction. For this purpose, four feasibility indexes were used: traffic density, population density, disaster prevention index (number of workers), and urbanization rate, which reflect the regional characteristics. The installation criteria were set in consideration of the average value and minimum value of the feasibility indexes for the tunnel type among areas that can be installed in the multi-utility tunnel of Seoul. The analysis area included 200 areas based on 14 zones. The results of the analysis based on the minimum value of feasibility indexes indicated that the tunnel type of multi-utility tunnel is suitable for 39 areas with high traffic volume and population. On the other hand, the 'gun' area, etc., has a wider population than the 'si' and 'gu', suggesting that it is not suitable to install multi-utility tunnel. In addition, it can be seen that the larger the index value centered on the minimum value of each index, the smaller the tunnel type of multi-utility tunnel installation area.

  • Geothermal effects on the underground water conveyance pipe system have been investigated through the multiregional water supply system from Paldang water intake station. To make an investigation of raw water thermal energy, temperature sensors are installed the surface of the pipes of metropolitan area water supply system. In 2009 winter and early spring seasons, the monthly averaged temperatures at Paldang 2 intake stations are $1.94^{\circ}C$ in February, $4.96^{\circ}C$ in March, and $10.56^{\circ}C$ in April. After the transfer in 26.0 km distance of tunnel and buried pipe, the raw water temperatures are raised to $3.13^{\circ}C$, $6.04^{\circ}C$, and $11.39^{\circ}C$ respectively. As the temperature difference between the raw water and the air reduces, the temperature increasement is reduced by $1.19^{\circ}C$ in Feb., $1.08^{\circ}C$ in Mar., and $0.83^{\circ}C$ in Apr. Since the flowrate is over 1,150,000 $m^3$/day, it is estimated that the water exchanges a huge amount of heat over 1.0 Tcal a day with the ground.

  • Recently, the rapid industrialization and urbanization of the country due to a high economic growth, require optimization, usage and the expansion of underground space. Therefore the consturction of large and deep basements takes place in braced excavated area where their earth retaining structures cause many problems such as settlement and damages of nearby buildings and underground utilities. this study deals with the influence distance of settlement and the amount for settlement based on the measurement which were obtained at five excavation construction sites. Maximum ground surface settlement, (0.28∼0.3)(%)H utilizing depth, is similar to the measurement and the value by Clough's method. It was found that the settlement and the influence distance of settlement calculated by Clough's method were rational.

  • An integrated 3D GIS-based approach for understanding underground environment is proposed and applied to a land subsidence in densely populated region. Bedrock and geological discontinues were treated as main factors in this study. Because land subsidence in this study area was caused by cavity owing to dissolved limestone in percolating ground water. Ground was classified according to bedrock types using a clustering method and geological information, N value, and RQD value of boreholes were visualized and integrated by 3D-GIS. Therefore it was possible to recognize underground space easily and analyze the ground information effectively.

  • The geophysical monitoring technique using the high resolution time-domain electromagnetic (TEM) method with a coincident loop away was applied for determination of an underground seawater flow in the coastal areas. In comparison of the TEM monitoring to direct current (DC) resistivity monitoring, the TEM response to the under ground seawater flow is less sensitive than the DC resistivity response. However, the TEM monitoring is more effective in terms of measuring time, survey expense, and real-time data processing than the DC monitoring thor evaluating the spatial distribution of the fresh water-seawater transition zone in a regional area.

  • In this paper it was written about the safety management plan for underground power transmission cable, and it guarantees the reliable electric power supply and facility management to prevent an electric disasters according to that. Recently fires which happens on OF Cable lead to a breakdown of power system and cause a power outage of wide area and serious social problems. So it needs an improvement of inspection ability on OF cable as well as a strict inspection system to prevent that problems in advance and it will bring us the development of electric safety management and the reliable electric power supply.

  • ESCP Project showed an urban excavation case and introduced design method for case of Soil-Structure behavior in urban excavation. In this case, a retaining structures design to analysis the behavior of retaining wall and adjacent structures in urban excavations was applied by using a Elasto-plastic beam and limit Equilibrium analysis and soil-structure interaction analysis. Reliable design of earth retaining structures and the ground adjacent to braced wall in urban excavation are often difficult due to many variable factors. The ground settlement and the damage of adjacent structures in urban excavation has been an imprtant issue. Therefore, the stability of the adjacent structures must be secured with the excavation support and research on the protection of adjacent structure is necessary.

  • With the wide spread of direct current (DC) electric railroads in Korea, the stray currents or leakage currents from negative return rails become a pending problem to the safety of nearby underground infrastructures. The most widely used mitigation method for this interference is the stray current drainage method, which connects the underground metallic structures to the rails with diodes (polarized drainage) or thyristor (forced drainage). Although this method inherently possesses some drawbacks, its cost effectiveness and efficiency to protect the interfered structures has been the main reason for the wide adoption. In this paper, we show the field test results for the application of stray current drainage system to a city gas pipeline paralleling a depot area of a metropolitan rapid transit system. The process for optimal positioning is briefly illustrated. The effectiveness of constant voltage, constant current, and constant potential drainage schemes was also described.

This method, however, inherently possesses some drawbacks such as an increase of total leakage torrents from rails, expansion of interference zone, etc. In order to resolve these drawbacks, we developed a rapid potential-controled rectifier and applied to a depot area where stray current inference is very severe. The effect of this method was analyzed from the field tell data and we suggest this method can be an excellent alternative to the drainage-bond-based mitigation methods.

Behavior of the Ground in Rectangularly Crossed Area due to Tunnel Excavation under the Existing Tunnel (II) (기존터널에 근접한 직각교차 하부터널의 굴착에 따른 교차부지반의 거동 (II))

  • The behavior of the ground in crossed zone due to the excavation of new lower tunnel rectangularly crossed to that was studied by model tests and numerical analysis in shallow cover. Results of the model tests show that earth pressure of the ground in crossed zone were redistributed due to the longitudinal arching effect by the excavation of lower tunnel. By the numerical analysis, minimum principal stress in crown of single tunnel has more decrease than parallel tunnel or crossed tunnel. Vertical stress at rectangularly crossed tunnel decrease more than single tunnel by stress shadow.
