터널화재시 연기 거동에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study of Smoke Movement in Tunnel Fires)

  • In this study, reduced-scale experiments were conducted to understand smoke movements in tunnel fires with the natural ventilation. The 1/20 scale experiments were conducted under the Froude scaling since the smoke movement in tunnels is governed by buoyancy force. Six cases of experiments(pool diameter is 6.5cm, 7.3cm, 8.3cm, 10cm, l2.5cm and l5.4cm), in which vertical vents positioned 1m from the fire source symmetrically, were conducted in order to evaluate the effect of the vent on smoke movement. In case of heat release rate under 2MW, smoke front reached to the tunnel exit about 20 see delayed with ventilation and the smoke velocity was proportional to the power of the heat release rate. Temperature after the vent was lower than without vent. In case of l5.4cm pool, the temperature difference was about $50^{\circ}C$. It was confirmed that the thickness of smoke layer was maintained uniformly under the 35% height of tunnel through the visualized smoke flow by a laser sheet and the digital camcoder.

  • The oil crisis of the 1970s and the rise in oil prices motivated people to implement energy conservation strategies. Buildings were fitted with additional Insulation and reduced ventilation rates. The reduction of mechanical and natural ventilation rate led to Increases In Indoor pollutant concentrations which result- ed In Increased health risks from Indoor exposure to pollutants. The variable-air-volume /bypass fitration system/VAV/BPFS) is a variation of the conventional VAV systems, The VAV/BPFS is an electronically controlled system that provides costegectlve thermal comfort and acceptable indoor air quality Under controlled conditions In a chamber, a series experiments were performed to compare the ability of a VAV/BPFS to remove Indoor aerosol concentration and to reduce energy consumption no that ability of conventional VAV system. Results show that the VAV/BPFS Increases the effective ventilation rate and removes indoor air pollutant, and maintains acceptable indoor air Quality without sacrificing energy consumption.

  • With the recent increasing demand on the high-performance buildings, there has been a rapid growth in the application of the Computational Fluid Dynamics to the Building design. The conceptual ventilation design of the underground parking area currently under construction is validated using the CFD-ACE+. It has been found that the conceptual ventilation design quantitively satisfies the legal standards. However, the highly concentrated region of CO is predicted. The positions and blowing directions of ventilating lane are changed based on the previously predicted concentration distributions. The highly concentrated region of CO is slightly reduced, but not much change has been observed. Two more fang are installed and the positions and blowing directions of the fans are modified so that the highly concentrated region of CO is minimized.

  • The variations of the temperature field in a passenger compartment were measured by using a HSI true color image processing system and TLC(Thermochromic Liquid Crystal) solution. This temperature measurement technique was proved to be useful for analyzing the ventilation flow. The flow field in the passenger compartment was visualized using a particle streak method with pulsed laser light sheet. The temperature field and flow field in the passenger copartment were affected significantly by the ventilation mode. The panel-vent mode heating had shorter elapse time to reach a uniform temperature than the foot-vent mode under the same ventilation condition and nonuniformity inside the passenger compartment could be minimized effectively by using the bilevel heating mode. The temperature increase rate in the rear passenger compartment was iower than the front compartment, especially in the vicinity of the rear seat occupants' knee level.

  • This study aims to evaluate performance of ventilation and thermal about breathing wall by flowing air to indoor on appropriate conditions that is effective aperture area in the Central region(20, 50, $80cm^2/m^2$). The result is as follows : 1) Sectional temperature distribution of inflow and outflow out under the constant ventilation was reviewed. In the case of inflow, outside temperature increase effect was confirmed. 2) The more differences of temperature between outdoor and indraft of air was high, the more heat recovery was high.

  • The purpose of this paper is to estimate the fire safety in tunnels with bi-directional and/or congested unidirectional traffic where there may be people on both sides of the fire. Therefore, the spread and movement of smoke are simulated by Fire Dynamic Simulator code under different ventilation systems, longitudinal, semi-transverse, large port exhaust system. And as quantitative risk index, FED (Fractional Effective Dose) for each ventilation system are calculated and compared by existed code developed previous research.

  • The accurate distribution of flow rate has been a very important part to control the air change rate since introduction of house ventilation system. An inappropriate selection of fan due to incorrect prediction of pressure loss in duct brings energy loss. In the previous study the pressure loss of general spiral duct was measured and database was constructed for finding correct loss factors in fitting upper stream. The purpose of this study is to compare and investigate the error range of flow rate by applying T-Method to bilateral symmetry and asymmetry layout of duct. The results of this study are as following. It is demanded to decide accurate size under duct design for house ventilation system. Because the small amount of Flow rate was considered at that time. The error range was 3.17% on case1 and 3.52% on case2. The error range difference was 0.35%.

미세 후두현미경술시 윤상갑상막천자를 통한 고빈도 제트환기법 (High Frequency Jet Ventilation via Cricothyroid Membrane Puncture under Microlaryngoscopic Surgery)

  • High frequency Jet ventilation (HFJV) via cricothyroid membrane puncture contols frequency of ventilation as 20-200/min and persuits adequate gas exchange. HFJV was known to have advantages such as improvement of PaO$_2$, lesser barotrauma, stable hemodynamic effects, good operative field and lesser movement of head. The purpose of this study was to clarify the advantages of HFJV in cases of microlaryngeal surgery which operating time was expected even within 30 minutes. Twenty-eight patients were divided two groups : 1)control group : general endotracheal Intubation anesthesia. 2)experimental group : HFJV via cricothyroid membrane puncture with intravenous anesthesia, frequency 40/min, I/E ratio 40%, driving pressure 40 psi. We analyzed blood pressure, arterial blood gas, score of general condition and recovery time after operation. In conclusion, HFJV via cricothyroid membrane puncture had a good score of general condition and rapid recovery of consciousness, although some accumulation of P$CO_2$and elevation of blood pressure.

  • The indoor air quality of new apartment buildings, which is known to cause sick housing syndrome, has become a major concern among apartment residents as well as construction companies in Korea. In this study, the effects of environmentally friendly materials and ventilation system are evaluated to compare the strategies applied to improve indoor air quality at the pre-occupancy stage. Six residential units are tested under three conditions : one unit is consisted of environmentally friendly materials and ventilation system, another unit is consisted of environmentally friendly materials and non-ventilation system, and the other four units are consisted of common materials and non-ventilation system.

Traumatic Tricuspid Regurgitation as a Cause of Failure to Wean from Mechanical Ventilation

  • A 55-year-old man underwent emergent sternotomy due to cardiac tamponade occurring just after an accidental fall from a 10-m height. Tricuspid valve regurgitation was found on echocardiography while he was on mechanical ventilation after the operation. The patient was weaned successfully from mechanical ventilation after tricuspid valve repair under cardiopulmonary bypass. Traumatic tricuspid valve regurgitation is a rare blunt chest injury and its symptoms occur late. Tricuspid regurgitation should be considered as a reason for failure to wean from mechanical ventilation after blunt cardiac trauma.
