Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of prescription of overcorrection (-) lens, which is the one of the non-surgical treatments, on stereo-acuity and angle of deviation in intermittent exotropia. Methods: Twenty four children with intermittent exotropia were enrolled from October 2011 to December 2011. The angle of deviation(${\Delta}$), stereo-acuity (arcsec), monocular and binocular visual acuity (BVA, LogMAR), control of exodeviation and fusional ability using Worth 4 dot test were evaluated at near (33 cm) and far (6 m), under the overcorrecting (-)lens of -1.00, -.00, and -.00 D. Results: As a baseline finding, the angle of exodeviation was $20.9{\pm}9.7$ at near and $23.0{\pm}7.5$ at far. The angle of exodeviation at near decreased to $18.5{\pm}10.0$ (p<0.01), $15.8{\pm}9.0$ (p<0.01), $14.0{\pm}9.1$ (p<0.01) compared with baseline angle of exodeviation at near, as increasing diopters of (-) lens from -.00 D, -2.00 D and -.00 D, respectively. The angle of exodeviation at far also decreased to $21.4{\pm}5.2$ (p=0.01), $19.6{\pm}6.3$ (p<0.01) compared with baseline, as increasing minus lens from -2.00 D and -3.00 D, respectively. However, BVA, control of exodeviation, fusional ability and stereo-acuity showed no significant decrease despite of increasing diopters of (-)lens. Conclusions: The prescription of overcorrection (-)lens is an effective therapeutic method in intermittent exotropia which can reduce the near and far angle of exodeviation, and binocular visual acuity and stereo-acuity maintained without significant decrease despite of application of overcorrection (-)lens.
Seed size has been considered as an effective criteria for selection of the most vigorous seeds in sorghum [(Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench]. The smaller seeds were inferior to the larger sizes in emergence and grain yield. This study was conducted to determine germination rate, field emergence and vigor of sorghum for selection of high quality seed by different seed size. Sorghum cultivar of two (Hwanggeumchal and Tojong) were separated into five seed size proportion (<2.36, 2.80, 3.15, 3.35 and >3.55 mm diam.) according to seed size. The larger seed was more higher 1,000 seeds weight, seed density, carbohydrates and protein content. Total seed germination performing varied 92% at the largest size (>3.55 mm diam.) frequently inferior to slightly 67% at smaller seed (2.36 to 2.80 mm diam.) in the standard germination test. Seed size did have a significant effect on mean emergence time (MET) and maximum emergence rate index (ERI) and percentage of emergence. It should be noted that the results refer to MET of sorghum seeds ranging from 4.26 to 4.74 days. The relationship of seed size was not only to stand establishment but to grain yield. Yield was most affected by seed size and large seeds were superior to the smaller seed in 25~37% of the cases. Especially, yield was significant under 3.15 mm the beginning.
As phthalates classified as toxic to reproduction category 2 and endocrine disrupting chemicals were more strictly regulated as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) for authorization in under EU REACH and considered as priority substances in RoHS II, standardization of phthalate testing method is now being proposed in IEC 62321 of IEC TC 111 and the 2nd revision of KS M 1991 is also finished. In order to assist standardization activities related to phthalating testing, solvent extraction part of existing national standards were compared and verified. Recovery of DEHP (diethylhexyl phthalate) from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) by Soxhlet extraction increased in the order of methanol, toluene, dichloromethane and hexane from 46.9% to 95.3% as measured by GC-MS. Optimum extraction time was verified to be 6 hours using hexane. Recovery of DBP (dibutyl phthalate), BBP (butylbenzyl phthalate), and DEHP from different matrixes such as PVC, nitro cellulose, ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene). and EPDM(ethylene propylene diene monomer) rubber were evaluated to be more than 90% up to 99%. The detection limits of phthalates in solvent extraction followed by GC-MS analysis were 0.08~0.3 ${\mu}g/mL$ in solution and 8~30 mg/Kg in polymeric samples. GC-MS analyses of phthalates were carried out using different solvent extraction based on the EN 14372, ASTM D 7083, Japanese test method (MHLW 0906-4) and KS M 1991, proving that equivalent recoveries ranging from 98%~99% were obtained. DBP and DEHP were detected in three consumer products such as a child toy, a power cable and manicure with the amount of 22~1,910 mg/kg.

Multi-functional floating wetland island (mFWI) was developed in order to prevent algal bloom and to improve water quality through several unit purification processes. A test bed was applied in the stagnant watershed in an urban area, from the summer to the winter season. For the advanced treatment, an artificial phosphorus adsorption/filtration medium was applied with micro-bubble generation, as well as water plants for nutrient removal. It appeared that the efficiency of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total phosphorus (T-P) removal was higher in the warmer season (40.9%, 45.7%) than in the winter (15.9%, 20.0%), and the removal performance (suspended solid, chlorophyll a) in each process differs according to seasonal variation; micro-bubble performed better (33.1%, 39.2%) in the summer, and the P adsorption/filtration and water plants performed better (76.5%, 59.5%) in the winter season. From the results, it was understood that the mFWI performance was dependent upon the pollutant loads in different seasons and unit processes, and thus it requires continuous monitoring under various conditions to evaluate the functions. In addition, micro-bubbles helped prevent the formation of anaerobic zones in the lower part of the floating wetland. This resulted in the water circulation to form a new healthy aquatic ecosystem in the surrounding environment, which confirmed the positive influence of mFWI.

The Hydrogeologic data of 455 water wells comprising geologic and aquifer test were analyzed to determine hydrogeoloic characteristics of Cheju island. The groundwater of Cheju island is occurred in unconsolidated pyroclastic deposits interbedded in highly jointed basaltic and andesic rocks as high level, basal and parabasal types order unconfined condition. The average transmissivity and specific yield of the aquifer are at about 29,300m$^2$/day and 0.12 respectively. The total storage of groundwater is estimated about 44 billion cubic meters(m$^3$). Average annual precipitation is about 3390 million m$^3$ among which average recharge amount is estimated 1494 million m$^3$ equivalent 44.1% of annual precipitation with 638 million m$^3$ of runoff and 1256 million m$^3$ of evapotranspiration. Based on groundwater budget analysis, the sustainable yield is about 620 million m$^3$(41% of annual recharge)and rest of it is discharging into the sea. The geologic logs of recently drilled thermal water wens indicate that very low-permeable marine sediments(Sehwa-ri formation) composed of loosely cemented sandy sat derived from mainly volcanic ashes, at the 1st stage volcanic activity of the area was situated at the 120$\pm$68m below sea level. And also the other low-permeable sedimentary rock called Segipo-formation which is deemed younger than former marine sediment is occured at the area covering north-west and western part of Cheju at the $\pm$70m below sea level. If these impermeable beds are distributed as a basal formation of fresh water zone of Cheju, most of groundwater in Cheju will be para-basal type. These formations will be one of the most important hydrogeologic boundary and groundwater occurences in the area.
A three-layer, feed-forward artificial neural network (ANN) with sixteen input neurons, three hidden neurons, and one output neuron was developed to identify the presence of infectious bronchitis (IB) infection as early as possible in laying hen flocks. Retrospective data from flocks that enrolled IB surveillance program between May 2003 and November 2005 were used to build the ANN. Data set of 86 flocks was divided randomly into two sets: 77 cases for training set and 9 cases for testing set. Input factors were 16 epidemiological findings including characteristics of the layer house, management practice, flock size, and the output was either presence or absence of IB. ANN was trained using training set with a back-propagation algorithm and test set was used to determine the network's capability to predict outcomes that it has never seen. Diagnostic performance of the trained network was evaluated by constructing receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve with the area under the curve (AUC), which were also used to determine the best positivity criterion for the model. Several different ANNs with different structures were created. The best-fitted trained network, IBV_D1, was able to predict IB in 73 cases out of 77 (diagnostic accuracy 94.8%) in the training set. Sensitivity and specificity of the trained neural network was 95.5% (42/44, 95% CI, 84.5-99.4) and 93.9% (31/33, 95% CI, 79.8-99.3), respectively. For testing set, AVC of the ROC curve for the IBV_D1 network was 0.948 (SE=0.086, 95% CI 0.592-0.961) in recognizing IB infection status accurately. At a criterion of 0.7149, the diagnostic accuracy was the highest with a 88.9% with the highest sensitivity of 100%. With this value of sensitivity and specificity together with assumed 44% of IB prevalence, IBV_D1 network showed a PPV of 80% and an NPV of 100%. Based on these findings, the authors conclude that neural network can be successfully applied to the development of a screening model for identifying IB infection in laying hen flocks.

Nuclear factor ${\kappa}B$ (NF-${\kappa}B$) is a nuclear transcription factor that modulates the expression of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$. trans-10, cis-12 (t10c12)-conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) participates in the inhibition of TNF-${\alpha}$ production upon lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulation. However, in our previous study, t10c12-CLA enhanced the production of TNF-${\alpha}$ by LPS-unstimulated porcine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and RAW 264.7 macrophages in vitro. To resolve this apparent contradiction, we hypothesized that the effect of t10c12-CLA on TNF-${\alpha}$ production depends on NF-${\kappa}B$ activation induced by LPS stimulation. To test this hypothesis, we assessed the in vitro effect of t10c12-CLA on TNF-${\alpha}$ production and NF-${\kappa}B$ p65 activity in LPS-stimulated and LPS-unstimulated porcine PBMCs. t10c12-CLA treatment resulted in increased TNF-${\alpha}$ production by LPS-unstimulated PBMCs but decreased TNF-${\alpha}$ production by LPS-stimulated PBMCs. t10c12-CLA increased the degradation of inhibitory ${\kappa}B$ ($I{\kappa}B$)-${\alpha}$ protein and activated NF-${\kappa}B$ p65 in LPS-unstimulated PBMCs, but had the opposite effect in LPS-stimulated PBMCs. Notably, t10c12-CLA enhanced NF-${\kappa}B$ p65 binding activity in LPS-unstimulated PBMCs exposed to caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), a NF-${\kappa}B$ inhibitor. Conversely, it inhibited NF-${\kappa}B$ p65 binding activity in LPS-stimulated PBMCs exposed to CAPE. These results suggest that t10c12-CLA may have different actions under different physiological conditions, and that its effect may be associated with a change in NF-${\kappa}B$ p65 activity.
Background: It has been known that the most effective treatment method of hyperhidrosis is video-assisted thoracoscopic sympathetic nerve block. Postoperative compensatory hyperhidrosis and anhidrosis are major factors that decrease the postoperative satisfaction. Although sympathetic rami have been selectively blocked to decrease the complications, technical difficulties and excessive bleeding have prevented the universal application. Material and Method: Three pre-fixative cadavers were dissected before clinical application. Bilateral sympathetic chains were exposed in supine position after the whole anterior chest wall was removed. Second and third sympathetic rami were blocked using clips. After the sympathetic chains including ganglia were removed, we evaluated the extents of rami block. Twenty-five patients were subjected to the clinical application. Surgeries were performed in semi-fowlers position under general anesthesia and bilateral ventilation. 2 mm thoracoscopy and 5 mm trocar were intro-duced through third and fourth intercostal space, respectively. Second and third sympathetic rami were blocked using thoracoscopic clips. The postoperative complications, satisfaction, and compensatory hyperhidrosis rate were evaluated retrospectively. Result: Sympathetic rami were completely blocked in cadaver dissection study Hyper-hidrosis symptom was improved in all patients without operative complication. Operative time was shorter than that of traditional ramicotomy. All patients, except four, were satisfied with postoperative palmar hyperhidrosis. Com-pensatory hyperhidrosis was more severely happened in fifteen patients (60%). The remaining six patients had no complaint. Two patients had a minimal degree of gustatory hyperhidrosis. Conclusion: This operative method had shorter operative time and less complication rate, compared with traditional ramicotomy Operative success rate was similar to the traditional syrnpathicotorny; lower extent and occurrence rate of compensatory hyperhidrosis. The thoracic sympathetic rami clipping was suggested as an alternative method for treatment of palmar hyperhidrosis.
Inactivation in soil absorption, translocation of 2, 4-D by plants vary depending upon soil environments and herbicide formulations. Experiment was conducted in a glasshouse using rectangular pots($1350cm^2$) to evaluate the growth responses of barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli) and Indian jointvetch (Aesehyrcomene indica) to two formulations of 2, 4-D. The formulations used were 40% 2, 4-D amin salt (2, 4-D/AS) and 19.7% complex of rice husk lignin and 2, 4-D (2, 4-D/LG) which were applied at 200g ai/ha. Soil environments included fertilizer levels, soil pH, organic matter contents, and soil textures, Each treatment was replicated three times. The herbicidal activity of 2.4-D increased and lasted with increased levels of fertilizer. The activity also increased and lasted with low soil pH and decreased content of organic matter. Generally 2, 4-D/LG showed higher and longer herbicidal activity than 2. 4-D/AS for both test plants under all conditions applied. However, the herbicidal activity was influenced by the formulations more than by soil textures. It was thought that 2, 4-D/AS was released in a short time and inactivated readily while 2, 4-D/LG was slowly released and gave an opportunity of absorption by plants for a long period.
This experiment carried out to confirm characteristics of macrogranule (GG) for herbicidal efficacy by using remote-controlled aerial application (RCAA) to control annual and perennial weeds in rice paddy field, application methods, and application times of formulation types. Particle of 500 g GG having average diameter of 2.5~3 mm was over 85 percent, the bulk density of the particle was $0.2\sim0.4g\;mL^{-1}$ and the particle was water floating granule. Active ingredients and external form of halosulfuronmethyl+mefenacet GG remained stable under condition of storage stability test. The disintegration time of the GG was faster as the water temperature was increased. But disintegration time was not affected by pH on the water conditions. By using hand, spoon and power applicator, drift distances of GG were 4~5m, 7 m and 10~12 m, respectively. GG showed good herbicidal efficacy and plant safety in all of the application methods such as, using hand, spoon, power applicator and RCAA. Application times of GG, GR, SC and TB by hand in $4,000m^2$ were 38 min. 4 sec, 42 min. 20 sec, 38 min. 10 sec and 21 min. 4 sec, respectively, but application time of GG by using RCAA was 1 min 32 sec. According to appearance and characteristics of formulation types, suspension concentrate (SC) and GG were possible formulation types for RCAA.
