  • A sub-structure is uplift if the floating greater than dead load of a structure. When such occasion arise, a structure sustain damage. In general, the measures for floating prevention of structure are a permanent anchor method and a drainage method. The primary construction cost of a permanent anchor method is heavy. And a drainage method is needed maintenance management long term. At this point, the measures for floating prevention of a notion being requires the other days. Therefore, at this study a simple construction and a economic vertical drainage system was developed. The findings be used in the in-situ and gave careful consideration to an application. The result of examination, this system considering a characteristic of coefficient of permeability for the ground controls occurrence of floating despite the water level rise of the ground, which a period of construction get shorter compared with other methods, which understood that measures satisfactory in the financial aspect. Especially, A structure occurring effects of flatting under the course of construction made use of it. As the result of the effect of it was confirmed by construction.

  • Analyses of subsurface drainage effects of farmland with respect to pipe and envelop material are made by the laboratory experiments using soil box to give basic information for the subsurface drainage system planning and design. Three different diameter PVC perforated pipes and a mesh pipe are used with envelop materials such as sand, rice bran, and crushed stone. Steady state subsurface drainage flow rate increased as envelop material changed from sand to rice bran and crushed stone. This indicates that as the hydraulic conductivity of the envelop material increases, the drainage flow rate increases. On the other hand, for a given envelop material, the mesh pipe which has the largest openning area shows the largest flow rate while small diameter PVC pipes show small flow rates. This tells that as the openning area and pipe diameter increase, the flow rate increases, too. Therefore, selection of pipe and envelop material should be made in accordance with the design drainage flow rate. Unsteady state subsurface drainage flow rate with respect to time differs for different envelop material. In case the sand was used as an envelop material, the small diameter PVC pipes show larger flow rates than the large diameter PVC pipe and mesh pipe. When the rice bran was used, the mesh pipe shows the largest flow rate, while small diameter pipes show smaller flow rates. In case the crushed stone was used as an envelop material, the large diameter PVC pipe and mesh pipe show larger flow rates, while small diameter pipes show a little bit smaller flow rates. However, the variation of flow rates among different pipes is the smallest when the crushed stone is used. The flow rate curve with respect to the pipe changes little for the crushed stone envelop which has a large hydraulic conductivity, while that changes much for the sand and rice bran envelops. However, it is difficult to draw a consistent relationship between the drainage flow rate and pipe for all the envelop materials. Since the subsurface drainage experiments are made only under the restricted laboratory condition in this study, further study including field experiment is required.

  • To investigate the effect of the midsummer drainage method on growth and lodging characters, Dongjinbyeo was direct seeded on dry paddy field under 4cm of soil depth at May 1 by seeding machine. Three kind of drainage methods were treated such as, once in 20day, towice in 20, 30 days and 3 times 20, 30, 40 days after flooding. As increase the drainage times, the culm and internode length were shorter, culm wall of 4th internode was thicker, breaking weight was heavier, height of center weight was lower, lodging index was reduced, and dry weight of root was increased. Field lodging occured seriously at none drainage but didn't, with two or three times of drainage. Grain yield was not shown significantly different compared with constant flooding irrespective of midsummer drainage times. Therefore two or three times of midsummer drainage could be recommended as the effective water management for the reduction of lodging occurance in direct seeding culture on dry paddy field.

  • This study aims to figure out the behavior of runoff and drainage of pervious sidewalk block in actual construction environment by experiments. The specimens with surface layer and bedding layer are subjected to the drainage test by considering unsaturated condition and unique rainfall condition in urban areas. The repeated drainage test and clogging test were conducted with time intervals, and 3D X-ray CT image analysis and evaporation test were carried out for a quantitative analysis of drainage test. The results present that the spatial distribution of pores by evaporation for time intervals induces runoff. Especially, the bedding layer under the block is significantly critical in overall hydraulic behavior such as drainage and evaporation compared to the surface layer. Moreover, the sediments in pores promote the change in pores by evaporation and this induces deteriorated drainage capacity which is hard to recover. In addition, it is revealed that the maximum runoff height grows as the drainage capacity declines depending on the pre-wetting condition.

  • Although peak loading coefficient is one of critical design factors for sewer works, its detailed affecting factors were not analyzed because of limited data availability. This study analyzed the affecting factors on peak loading coefficient with plenty data obtained from several newly constructed sewer works. Simple and multiple regression analysis methods were adopted to analyze the relationships of each variable with or without data filtering. Drainage population, drainage area, population density, and daily sewage flow per person showed very weak relationships under diverse characteristics of cities. However, daily sewage flow per person showed stronger relationships with peak loading when daily sewage flow per person was splitted into two ranges. Population density (i.e., drainage population divided by drainage area) and daily sewage flow per person considerably were related with peak loading coefficient when daily sewage flow per person is less than about 400 Lpcd.

  • CPAM has been applied to the paper industry for the purpose of wet-end improvement for a long time. And molecular weight and charge density have been managed most important quality factors to make CPAM for this application. Recently branched CPAM was developed to improve retention and drainage characteristics and we considered branch degree of CPAM as important factor as molecular weight and charge density. In this experiment, we tried to investigate physical and chemical properties to determine branch degree and flocculation efficiency using Arbocell pulp which was recently developed micro size pulp and finally we applied retention and drainage test under the ONP stock condition.

  • This study aimed to estimate applicability of a model to simulate circulation in estuarine lake caused by operation of drainage gates. The model consists of 2D (depth-averaged) hydrodynamic models, Delft3D-FLOW model and operation model for drainage gates. The flow through drainage gates was calculated using weir formulae with discharge coefficient, 0.8. The simulations are performed under two conditions: uncontrolled condition and controlled by periods of two days. The results on simulation of the model showed that the water level in estuarine lake was tend to increase above mean sea level. Therefore it was proved that the calibration and verification were needed in order to applicate this model for Saemankeum area.

  • The forced drainage set up to decrease the cathodic protection in each kind of steel conduit laid under the ground is so proscribed to be maintained less than 60V in its output voltage that insulation coordination is easy to be left out of account, on the basis of 60V of working voltage. When railway or subway break down during the service of a subway, 1,500 voltage approximating to line voltage flows through the load terminal of the drainage (rail and underground conduit) though momentary in the worst case. And so, an accident followed by dielectric breakdown, fire and damage by a fire is expected. Therefore, I suggest that insulation coordination should be considered against such a thing on designing, producing and setting up forced drainage.

  • This study is about the applicability of copper slag as the ground improvement material. By the geo-technical characteristics of the copper slag and by the effect of consolidation and under drainage condition, it is proved that the copper slag can be used for ground improvement material as substitution for sand. As a result of laboratory tests, it was shown that the permeability of the copper slag was similar to that of sands under the vertical drainage condition. In addition, the copper slag showed higher critical hydraulic gradient than that of sand under up-ward vertical flow state. The copper slag has potential safety against piping and it has internal stability of particles. The conclusion is that the copper slag is suitable for drainage and filter material.

  • In this research, an analytical solution for the coefficient of permeability of soils during consolidation is suggested. The pore pressure and the flow rate measurements at different locations during consolidation are utilized. The void ratio and volume compressibility of soils under consolidation are also estimated. A large consolidation testing device, possible in both vertical and radial drainage is designed and manufactured. And consolidation test with kaolinite soils were performed under radially inward drainage direction. Pore pressures in varying radial distances and flow rate with time were measured as well as vertical deformations. From the test results, the changes of permeability, volume compressibility and void ratio under consolidation and their spatial variations are estimated. Thus the proposed solution is verified by comparing with the experimentally estimated test results. In addition, it is confirmed that permeability, void ratio and volume compressibility decrease as consolidation and loading steps progress. Also, these soil characteristics increase with radial distant from drainage boundary, where lowest values observed, and slightly decrease as approaching undrained boundary.
