  • This paper reviewed and summarized the experimental studies conducted during last three decades to evaluate the structural integrity and to establish the acceptance criteria for piping system of nuclear power plants (NPPs) under seismic loading condition. These experimental studies contain the results of large-scale piping system tests under excessive seismic loading as well as standard specimen tests, simplified piping specimen tests, and piping components tests under simplified dynamic and cyclic loading. These would be useful as a basis for establishing integrity assessment procedure and acceptance criteria for piping systems of NPPs under beyond design basis earthquake (BDBE) conditions, and also could be used in planing the scope and direction of further related researches.

  • The process design of forward Extrusion and Upsetting of Axi-symmetric part has been studied in this paper. During the cold forging product; auto transmission Solenoid Valve part, the defects such as folding and under-fill can be appeared by the improperly controlled metal flow. In this study, to reduce the folding and under-fill the design of experiments has been used to find out the significant design variables in the design of forging process. This paper deals with an Process Planning with which designer can determine operation sequences even after only a little experience in Process Planning of Multi-Former products by multi-stage former working. The approach is based on knowledge-based rules, and a process knowledge-base consisting of design rules is built. Based on the systematic procedure of process sequence design, the forming operation of cold forged auto transmission Solenoid Valve part is analyzed by the commercial Finite Element program, DEFORM/2D.

  • The optimal design for the shape of MIL-S-46119 ring obturator under the high pressure using parameter stud:』 on the stress analysis considering effects of design variable is presented, and it is compared to experimental results. The trends of parametric study are in good agreement with the experimental results. The more thickness the higher stress. The more taper the higher stress. And maximum stress of circumferential surface is larger than maximum stress of forward surface. The design variable!; are such as thickness, taper, radius of shape of the obturator. In order to optimize the shape of obturation ring, the weight is maximized subject to maximum stress of the obturator within allowable stress. The design constraints are geometric elements of design variables.

  • The changes in the game platform is appeared since the advent of smart-phones. Apple's iOS or Google's Android platform is gradually expanding their territories in the mobile game area. Android's platform fragmentation and the absence of game development framework act as barriers for game developments. In the development of game applications on the smart-phone, the standardized development procedures under game framework can achieve the productivity improvement. In this paper, we propose a new design pattern suitable for the design of a framework for new areas of application through the expansion of existing framework. The design and implementation of the Android game development framework is presented by taking advantage of existing design patterns and a proposed pattern. Also we propose the standardized development procedure of game applications under the proposed framework.

  • Optimum design of the tooth surface for the reduction of transmission error is very difficult to determine analytically due to nonlinearity of transmission error under the several load condition. The design of tooth surface that can give a low noise under the various load condition is very important. Therefore, this study proposes the method to determine the optimal lead curve and robust design of the tooth surface by using the response surface method. To do so, the design variables are selected by a screening experiment. Then the fitted regression model Is built with the check of the usefulness of the model. The model with constraints is solved to obtain the optimum values for the lead curve and the robust design fur the tooth surface.

  • A study on ventilation design using the spreadsheet model is carried out to propose means of available design. A sample of complex ventilation system In the non-standard condition Is used to illustrate thins spreadsheet model. In developing the spreadsheet model, this study has attempted to it general by using computional equations and design parameters that can be readily applied to any spreadsheet software. Also, most design data is contained in the spreadsheet template. This template provides the same design information as the ACGIH worksheet, and operates Quickly and emclenuy, and is fiexible enough to use under different conditions. This spreadsheet model allows the ventilation engineer to design quickly and accurately the ventilation system, without spending too much effort In the design process. By storing on computer and diskette, the design data computed finally can be used as a permanent record of specific ventilation system, and because of finally to be able to design over and over again while making only slight changes to the Input data, the spreadsheet model is used availably to accomplish the design optimazation by redesign and troubleshooting by review from field measurements. Also, the spreadsheet model is available for designing ventilation system under different condition or evaluating existing system or design drawing, because changes In the layout or formulae can be readily made to fit the needs of the designer.

  • The simulation of water balance was conducted for suggested four alternative multi-layer cover design of near-surface radioactive waste disposal facility under domestic climate condition. The analysis was also conducted for the most favorable one out of four alternative cover design under conservative scenarios. Until 100 years after closure of disposal vault, the infiltration flux for the most favorable cover design was negligible even under doubling of the ambient precipitation condition. When the degradation of asphalt and geomembrane after 100 years of closure was considered, the infiltration flux significantly increased almost to the design criteria of cover system in I' Aube disposal facility. And it was found that the hydraulic conductivity of bentonite/sand as a bottom barrier should be no greater than 1$\times$10$^{-7}$ cm/sec recommended by U.S. EPA.

  • In this paper, a structural design method of a smart tuned mass damper (TMD) for a retractable-roof spatial structure under earthquake excitation was proposed. For this purpose, a retractable-roof spatial structure was simplified to a single degree of freedom (SDOF) model. Dynamic characteristics of a retractable-roof spatial structure is changed based on opened or closed roof condition. This condition was considered in the numerical simulation. A magnetorheological (MR) damper was used to compose a smart TMD and a displacement based ground-hook control algorithm was used to control the smart TMD. The control effectiveness of a smart TMD under harmonic and earthquake excitation were evaluated in comparison with a conventional passive TMD. The vibration control robustness of a smart TMD and a passive TMD were compared along with the variation of natural period of a simplified structure. Dynamic responses of a smart TMD and passive TMD under resonant harmonic excitation and earthquake load were compared by varying mass ratio of TMD to total mass of the simplified structure. The design procedure proposed in this study is expected to be used for preliminary design of a smart TMD for a retractable-roof spatial structure.

  • This paper describes a formulation to predict optimum post-tensioning forces and cable dimensioning for self-anchored cable-stayed suspension bridges. The analysis is developed with respect to both dead and live load configurations, taking into account design constrains concerning serviceability and ultimate limit states. In particular, under dead loads, the analysis is developed with the purpose to calculate the post-tensioning cable forces to achieve minimum deflections for both girder and pylons. Moreover, under live loads, for each cable elements, the lowest required cross-section area is determined, which verifies prescriptions, under ultimate or serviceability limit states, on maximum allowable stresses and bridge deflections. The final configuration is obtained by means of an iterative procedure, which leads to a progressive definition of the stay, hanger and main cable characteristics, concerning both post-tensioning cable stresses and cross-sections. The design procedure is developed in the framework of a FE modeling, by using a refined formulation of the bridge components, taking into account of geometric nonlinearities involved in the bridge components. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can be easily utilized to predict the cable dimensioning also in the framework of long span bridge structures, in which typically more complexities are expected in view of the large number of variables involved in the design analysis.
