The effects of co-flow and the variation of the equivalence ratio on NOx emission were investigated experimentally for unconfined and confined partially premixed flames. The shape, length, temperature of flames and the concentration of burnt gas were measured. Two types of co-flow (parallel and swirling co-flow) were considered. For unconfined flames, flame with parallel co-flow is the longest and the next is flame without co-flow. Flame with swirl is the shortest. The length of swirling flame increases suddenly under certain value of equivalence ratio. EINOx is diminished by the decrease of equivalence ratio. It is found that the unconfining of flame enhances the emission of NOx. The EINOx of unconfined flame with parallel co-flow is less than that of flame without co-flow.
For the unconfined vapor cloud explosion accident by the continuous release of gas-liquid flow of various saturated liquids in a vessel at ground level, overpressures were estimated and analyzed with various release conditions and materials by TNT equivalency model with vapor dispersion. We found that at same release conditions, overpressure showed n-heptane > xylene > n-hexane > toluene > n-heptane > benzene, respectively and that overpressure was increased with increasing the hole diameter and the storage pressure, but it was increased with decreasing the wind speed, the interested distance, and the vessel thickness.
For the unconfined vapor cloud explosion(UVCE) accident by the continuous release of gas-liquid flow of various saturated liquids in a vessel at ground level, overpressures were estimated by TNT equivalency model with two estimation methods, such as UVCE I model based on a constant release time and UVCEII model based on a real travel time of vapor by dispersion and analyzed with various release conditions. As a simulation result the simple, easy, and correct method of evaluation of consequences of the UVCE accident was proposed by using consequences of UVCE I model and correlation equations for differences of overpressures between UVCE models, so that this evaluation method could be used easily in the small and medium size enterprises without using the dispersion model.
Controlled low strength material (CLSM) is a flowable mixture and does not need to be compacted. It is produced by mixing portland cement, fly ash, fine aggregates, water and chemical admixtures. Sand is the most commonly used fine aggregates in the conventional CLSM, but it is getting more and more difficult to obtain sand in Korea. In this study, the characteristics of unconfined compressive strength, flow and applicability of a new CLSM that is produced by mixing of pond ash, fly ash, water, cement are examined. An unconfined compressive strength satisfies the standard unconfined compressive strength (0.5~1.0 MPa) were obtained when the mixture ratio of pond ash and fly ash is 30:70~70:30, cement ratio is 3.0~5.0%, and water content is 31~34%. The results of flow test indicate that the mixture ratio of pond ash and fly ash which satisfy the standard How value (0.2 m) is 30:70~70:30.

Unsteady groundwater flow in a three-layer unconfined aquifer has been studied theoretically and experimentally. Two different methods have been used in solving the governing equations of the flow, the nonlinear partial differential equations; (1) The governing equations are linearized for each layer and approximate solutions are obtained. (2) The governing equations are transformed to nonlinear ordinary differential equations, which are solved numerically by Runge-Kutta procedure. Fine, middle sized and coarse sands are used in the experiments. It is found that the solutions from the method(2) ( the reduction of partial differential equations to ordinary differential equations) give better agreement with the experimental results than the solution from the method(1).
Tunnelling in a water bearing soil may cause draw-down of ground water table. Modelling of this problem requires considering the change of phreatic surface including the stress constitutive relationship for an unsaturated soil. However, it is normally assumed that ground water is confined. Numerical formulation of coupled behavior considering phreatic surface is described and implemented into computer program. Influence of unconfined flow on tunnel and ground is thoroughly investigated and compared with that of confined flow condition. It is identified that ground and lining behaviour below phreatic surface is almost the same as that under confined flow conditions, however, there is considerable difference in ground behaviour above phreatic surface. It is generally concluded that the assumption of confined flow is acceptable in terms of lining design.
As the physical and mechanical properties of lightweight air-mixed soil change in the procedure of transportation of mix truck, it is necessary to assure whether the properties during construction satisfy those in design. In this study, variations of properties of mixed soil after transportation by mix truck are proved by field test. Lightweight air-mixed soil used field test the unit weight of $9.0{\pm}1.0kN/m^3$, the flow value of $190{\pm}20mm$ was produced. To analyze variations of properties of mixed soil the unit weight and flow value of the sample before and after transport was measured unconfined compressive strength tests were performed. Mixing time was 19~175 minutes diversified. As the test results, it is known that the density, the flow value and the unconfined compressive strength of lightweight air-mixed soil change by transportation, but these values satisfy the specifications of material of air-mixed soil. After transportation the average value of the unit weight and flow value change in the flow of the $(+)0.10kN/m^3$, 4.8 mm respectively, the average change in the unit weight and the flow value due to the mixing time was constant. And unconfined compressive strength of 28-day specimen increases from 20 to $150kN/m^2$. But, these values do not have some clear relationship with the transportation time within 175 minutes which is longest test time. Consequently, Within 175 minutes the changes of properties by transportation are too small to show some problems in the construction field.
In Korea, the aquifers at the coastal areas are mostly shallow alluvial unconfined aquifers. To simulate the flow and dispersion in unconfined aquifer, a FDM model has been developed to solve the nonlinear Boussinesq equation. Related analysis and verification have been executed. The iteration method is used to solve the nonlinearity, and the model shows 3-D shape because it is a 2-D y model that consider the undulation of water table and bottom. For the verification of the model, the output of flow module is compared to the 1-D analytic solution of Lee (1989) which have the drawdown or uplift boundary condition, and the two results show almost the same value. and the mass balance of dispersion module shows about 10% error. The developed model can be used for the analysis and design of the flow and dispersion in the unconfined aquifers. The model has been applied to the estuary area of Ssangcheon watershed, and the parameters have been deduced as a result : hydraulic conductivity is 90 m/day, and longitudinal dispersivity is 15 m. And the analysis with these parameters shows that the wells are situated in the influence circle of each others except for No. 7 well. Groundwater discharge to sea is $3700m^3/day$. And the chlorine ion ($cl^-$) concentration at the pumping wells increase at least 1000 mg/L if groundwater dam is not exist, so the groundwater dam plays an important role for the prevention of sea water intrusion.

In order to the influence of grain size distribution on compressive strength and coefficient of permeability, unconfined compression test and permeability test were performed for seventy samples that have various grain-size distributions. Its results are as follows: 1. Maximum unconfined compressive strength appears at the dry side of optimum moisture content. 2. Unconfined compressive strength is proportional to the increase of percent passing of No. 200 sieve. 3. Precent of deformation in failure increases in proportion to the increase of percent passing of No. 200 sieve, and modulus of No. 200 sieve, and modulus of deformation also increases in proportion to percent passing of No. 200 sieve. 4. Unconfined compressive strength increases in proportion to uniformity coefficient, liquid limit and plastic index, but it decreases gradually according to the increase of coefficient of grading and classification area. 5. Maximum dry density decreases according to the increase of void ratio. 6. Coefficient of permeability decreases according to the increase of percent passing of No. 200 sieve, and when percent of No. 200 sieve, and when percent passing of No. 200 enlarged more than 40%, it becomes less than $10^{-6}cm/sec$ which is the limit of coefficient of permeability of core material for earth dam proposed by Lee. 7. Coefficient of permeability increases according to the increase of coefficient of grading, classification area and index of Talbot formula r, but it was rather decrease by the increase of uniformity coefficient. 8. Coefficient of permeability seems to depend on the size and the shape of the flow path which is a series of void to be concerned by the size and the proprton of soil grain, even though void ratios are same.
The purpose of this study was to determine the engineering and environmental properties of the waste tire powder-added lightweight soil (TLS) used as flowable backfill. The TLS used in this experiment consisted of dredged soil, bottom ash, waste tire powder and cement. Test specimens were prepared with various contents of waste tire powder ranging from 0% to 100% at 25% intervals and water contents ranging from 140% to 200% by the weight of the dry dredged soil. Several series of unconfined compression tests, flow tests, and leaching tests were carried out. Experimental results for the TLS indicated that the unconfined compressive strength, secant modulus (), and unit weight of the TLS decreased with an increase in waste tire powder content. However, as the waste tire powder content increased, the stress-strain relationship of the TLS showed more ductile behavior rather than brittle behavior. The flow value increased with an increase in water content, but decreased with an increase in waste tire powder content. The result of the leaching test showed that the leaching amounts of heavy metals were lower than the permitted limits suggested by the Ministry of Environment.
