As the demand on long span structures increases more in recent years, the excessive deflection, in addition to the ultimate strength, in horizontal members becomes a very important issue. For this reason, as an alternative method to effectively solve the deflection problems, the application of post-tensioned structural system with unbonded tendon increases gradually. However, most of the existing researches on post-tensioned members with unbonded tendons (UPT) focused on the ultimate flexural strength, which would be impossible or improper to check serviceability such as deflections. Therefore, this study aims at proposing a stress prediction model for unbonded tendons that is applicable to the behavior of UPT members from the very initial loading stages, post-cracking states, and service to ultimate conditions. The applicability and accuracy of the proposed model were also evaluated comparing to the existing test results from literature. Based on such comparison results, it was verified that the proposed model provided very good predictions on tendon stresses of UPT members at various loading stages regardless their different characteristics; wide range of reinforcement index, different loading patterns, and etc. The proposed model especially well considered the effect of various loading types on stress increases of unbonded tendons, and it was also very suitable to apply on the over-reinforced members that easily happened during strengthening/repairing work.

An analytical method based on the nonlinear layered finite element method is developed to simulate overall load-deflection behavior of bonded and unbonded prestressed concrete beams. The model which uses rather advanced numerical technique for iterative convergence to equilibrium can be regarded as superior one compared to the models mainly based on either load control or displacement control methods. Model predictions were compared with preceding experimental results and it was observed that there were good agreements between them.

The strain compatibility analysis shows that the influential parameters of loading type, reinforcing ratio, and span-depth ratio affect on the tendon stress in unbonded prestresses concrete member significantly. However, existing test results did not comply exactly with the analytical results. In consequence, the present study was planned to examine the parameters in order to complete Moon/Lim's design equation. The test variables with 12 specimens were loading type, reinforcing ratio, and span-depth ratio. As results, the effect of influential parameters were examined throughly and Moon/Lim's design equation was proven to be accurate.

This study presents modeling technologies applicable to an unbonded post-tension system using a finite element software package. In this study, both direct modeling method and multiple spring method were used. The direct modeling method adopts tube-to-tube contact elements to represent the physical feature of a post-tension system. The multiple spring method uses virtual tendons attached to the real tendons using a number of rigid axial springs that freely rotate at the ends. Both modeling technologies provide accurate predictions. However, only the multiple spring method provides numerically stable and reliable responses with a consideration of concrete tension stiffening effects. Therefore, the multiple spring method turned out to be a generally applicable modeling technology for the unbonded post-tension system. Comparisons were made for the analytical and experimental results for the verification of the selected method, and parameter studies were carried out to confirm the appropriateness of the modeling assumptions and parameters adopted in the analysis.
The purpose of this paper was to investigate the relations between the unbonded tendon stress and the influential parameters which were bonded reinforcement ratio, span/depth ratio, and loading type. To this end, first, the influence of parameters were examined with twenty eight test results obtained from references. Then, an experimental study was carried out with 21 test specimens. The investigation with previous and current tests revealed the followings; (1) The bonded reinforcement ratio and prestressing ratio were proved to be an important variables on the unbonded tendon stress. (2) The ratio of span to depth and type of loading affected partially the unbonded tendon stress although their effects varied depending on bonded reinforcement ratio. (3) AASHTO LRFD Code and Moon/Lim\`s design equation predicted the test results well with some safety margins.

This paper reports the results of an experimental study using the BOTDR sensor to detect the unbonded location of attached CFRP sheet for structural rehabilitation. A specimens with the unattached CFRP sheet were fabricated for this study, on which BOTDR sensor was attached with a nylon net. During the flexural test of the specimens, the strain of the CFRP sheet was measured using the BOTDR sensor and electric resistance gauges. From the results, it was confirmed that the strain distribution obtained through the BOTDR sensor can be effectively used to visualize and detect the unbonded position of the CFRP sheet. In addition, In addition, the strain measured by the BOTDR sensor was found to be more effective in analyzing the overall structure behavior than the electric resistance strain gauge. The development of a BOTDR sensor with a measuring longth of less than 100 mm will enable accurate detection of the local unbonded position of the CFRP sheet.
The objective of the present study is to examine the flexural behavior of two-span post-tensioned lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) beams using unbonded tendons and the reliability of the design provisions of ACI 318-14 for such beams. The parameters investigated were the effective prestress and loading type, including the symmetrical top one-point, two third-point, and analogous uniform loading systems. The unbonded prestressing three-wire strands were arranged with a harped profile of variable eccentricity. The total length of the beam, measured between both strand anchorages, was 11000 mm. The test results were compared with those compiled from simply supported LWAC one-way members, wherever possible. The ultimate load capacity of the present beam specimens was evaluated by the collapse mechanism of the plasticity theorem and the nominal section moment strength calculated following the provision of the ACI 318-14. The test results showed that the two-span post-tensioned LWAC beams had lower stress increase (Δfps) in the unbonded tendons than the simply supported LWAC beams with a similar reinforcement index. The effect of the loading type on Δfps and displacement ductility was less significant for two-span beams than for the comparable simply supported beams. The design equations for Δfps and Δfps proposed by ACI 318-14 and Harajli are conservative for the present two-span post-tensioned LWAC beams, although the safety decreases for the two-span beam, compared to the ratios between experiments and predictions obtained from simply supported beams.
This paper describes an experimental study planned to examine the effects of important design variables which were used in the proposed equation by authors. Fourteen beams and slabs were designed with the variables, such as effective prestress, concrete strength, amount of tendons, amount of bonded reinforcements, loading type, and span/depth ratio. Then, deflections and tendon stresses were measured and compared according to the parametric variations of the selected variables. It was found that the tendon stress increment decreases as the level of effective prestress or the amount of unbonded tendons and bonded reinforcements increases. Also, the contributions of concrete strength, and loading type were observed to affect on the tendon stresses. However, the stress increments of unbonded tendon were minimal alt high values of span/depth in contrast with the ACI code.
This study was conducted to develop the design methodology of gap slabs for the post-tensioned concrete pavement (PTCP). The gap slabs were considered as unbonded, half bonded, and bonded types. According to the types of the gap slabs, the curling stresses were investigated first under the environmental loads. The stresses due to the vehicle loads were analyzed considering both the single and tandem axles. The method to calculate the prestressing amount was suggested by comparing the combined stresses due to both loads and the allowable tensile stress of concrete. The prestressing amount for the unbonded type gap slab could be designed by considering only the gap slab; however, for the half bonded and bonded gap slabs, the whole PTCP slab should be analyzed to properly design the prestressing amount.

Experimental study has been performed in order to investigate the behavior of RC beams strengthened with externally unbonded post-tensioned CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) strips using embedded or stud-type plate anchorages. Total 10 small-scaled specimens were manufactured with the different post-tensioning level and types of mechanical anchorage as a main test parameter. A control specimen and specimens with simply bonded CFRP strips were included to compare the structural performances of each system. From the test results, it was observed that the specimens strengthened with simply bonded CFRP strips showed debonding failure below 50% of CFRP tensile strength due to premature debonding. On the other hand, all the specimens strengthened with post- tensioned unbonded CFRP strips reached the rupture strength of the CFRP strip. Also, it was observed that the specimens with stud-type anchorage have equivalent strengthening performance compared with embedded-type anchorage.
