  • Three-phase four-wire electrical distribution systems have been widely employed in manufacturing plants, commercial and residential buildings. Due to the nonlinear loads, the neutral conductor carries excessive harmonic currents resulting in wiring failure of the neutral conductor, overloading of the distribution transformer and a voltage drop between the neutral and the ground. This paper proposes a reduced rating active power filter to suppress neutral current harmonics in three-phase four-wire electrical distribution systems. The proposed system is simple in control and the VA rating of the inverter could be significantly reduced since only the fundamental current due to unbalanced loading flows through the inverter switch. The experimental results on a prototype validate the proposed control approach.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the status of apartment informationalization through the research of distribution of super express network, apartment home pages and Inhabitants awareness. 1st. The construction business launched the full-scale apartment informationalization in 1999. Since then, the infomationalization has been developed multilaterally while the apartment home pages are playing a major role in cooperation with construction business and Internet business. The academic interest and research on the informationalization, however, are not enough. 2nd. The distribution of super express network, which is based on the informationalization is accelerated by the government policy. Especially in our country where the apartment is the major type of housing, we have favorite environment for the informationalization and can create our own housing culture. 3rd. The number of the apartment home pages now is increased to over 6,000, but its contents, know-how, and technique to build the system have not been advanced enough. 4th. So far the home pages have not been able to function well enough to strengthen the community awareness and are likely to result in the unbalanced informationalization. 5th. The study shows that residents interest in the computer and the Internet is fairly high. The utilization of the Internet is varied according to the age, sex, occupation, academic background, income and so forth. Especially they are not as interested in the housing informationalization as in the general information, but the preference of the apartment home pages and the super express network is so tremendous that its distribution will keep the momentum.

  • A new DC-DC converter circuit for LVDC(Low Voltage Direct-Current) distribution is proposed. DC-DC converter consists of two stage which are voltage balancer and converter stage. The balancing circuit adjust balance input voltage of converter circuit and compensate for unbalanced loads and short circuits. The converter circuit control the bipolar output voltage ${\pm}750V$. Simulation is carried out for this DC-DC converter system.

  • This study complements the previous studies on workload distribution problems in Flexible Manufacturing Systems. Specifically, we consider the problem in two perspectives, the long-range policy and the short and medium-term planning and control. The long-term loading policy focusses on identifying the optimal loading of the system characterized by either balanced loading or unique unbalanced loading for which a steepest ascent method is developed. These results are then applied to study the optimal medium and short-term planning and control problems, for which a truncated dynamic programming method is developed in order to obtain the optimal allocation of the given operation mix of part types to work stations.

  • Class distribution of unbalanced data is an important part of the digital world and is a significant part of cybersecurity. Abnormal activity of unbalanced data should be found and problems solved. Although a system capable of tracking patterns in all transactions is needed, machine learning with disproportionate data, which typically has abnormal patterns, can ignore and degrade performance for minority layers, and predictive models can be inaccurately biased. In this paper, we predict target variables and improve accuracy by combining estimates using Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) and Light GBM algorithms as an approach to address unbalanced datasets. Experimental results were compared with logistic regression, decision tree, KNN, Random Forest, and XGBoost algorithms. The performance was similar in accuracy and reproduction rate, but in precision, two algorithms performed at Random Forest 80.76% and Light GBM 97.16%, and in F1-score, Random Forest 84.67% and Light GBM 91.96%. As a result of this experiment, it was confirmed that Light GBM's performance was similar without deviation or improved by up to 16% compared to five algorithms.

  • In this paper a single-phase Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) inverter for photovoltaic (PV) applications is presented. Based on the presented mathematical analysis, a novel controller is introduced which adjusts the inverter power factor (PF) and manipulates the distribution of the reactive power between the cells to enhance the operating range of the CHB inverter. The adopted control strategy enables tracking of the maximum power point (MPP) of distinct PV strings and allows independent control of the dc-link voltages. The proposed controller also enables the inverter to operate under heavily unbalanced PV conditions. The performance of the CHB inverter and the proposed controllers are evaluated in the PSCAD/EMTDC environment. A seven-level CHB-based grid connected laboratory prototype is also utilized to verify the system performance.

  • This paper presents the new simulation algorithms using network methods to analysis the steady-state train voltage distribution characteristics in ac auto-transformer fed railroads. In general, the supply system of railroads is composed of non-symmetrical and unbalance transmission line. Therefore, the general method using simplified old algorithms have the self-contradictory errors because the supply line of train railroads is completely unbalanced. In this paper, the simulation results of new developed algorithms is compared with those of EMTP to confirm the effectiveness.

  • The air distribution duct with multiple outlets is an essential part of automotive air-conditioning system In a bus. The estimation of airflow rate in an automotive air-conditioning duct is typically very complicate due to large variations in cross-sectional area and abrupt changes in flow direction, as well as unbalanced distribution of the flow. In this paper, the flow characteristic in a duct with multiple outlets is investigated through experiment, CFD simulation and a one-dimensional simulation. Numerical simulations have been performed for two simplified air conditioning ducts with multiple outlets used in a medium bus. The three dimensional Navier-Stokes code was used to evaluate the overall pressure, velocity Held, and distribution rate at each diffuser according to the change of various design parameters such as ratio of cross-sectional area and radius of bifurcated region. In addition, a one-dimensional program based on Bernoulli equation was developed to obtain optimized diffuser area required to equalize discharge flow rate at each outlet. As a result of this study, optimized diffuser area of design variable by one-dimensional program was very reasonable as compared to the trend deduced from CFD Simulation. Therefore, the simple and convenient one-dimensional analysis developed in this study can be applied in practical design procedure for air-conditioning duct.

  • Conventional average power theory has been used to design and control active power filters But compensating reference currents of active power filters calculated by conventional average power theory are definitively influenced by three phase source voltage conditions such as unbalance or distortion. This paper presents a new average power algorithm for active power filters which can detect symmetrically equally active or fundamental reactive currents in each phase based on decomposition of fundamental reactive component and harmonics under unbalanced power conditions. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation and experimental results for a three wire distribution system with 15% unbalanced source voltages.

  • This paper discusses the state-of-the-art techniques in real-time state estimation for the Smart Microgrids. The most popular method used in traditional power system state estimation is a Weighted Least Square(WLS) algorithm which is based on Maximum Likelihood(ML) estimation under the assumption of static system state being a set of deterministic variables. In this paper, we present a survey of dynamic state estimation techniques for Smart Microgrids based on Belief Propagation (BP) when the system state is a set of stochastic variables. The measurements are often too sparse to fulfill the system observability in the distribution network of microgrids. The BP algorithm calculates posterior distributions of the state variables for real-time sparse measurements. Smart Microgrids are modeled as a factor graph suitable for characterizing the linear correlations among the state variables. The state estimator performs the BP algorithm on the factor graph based the stochastic model. The factor graph model can integrate new models for solar and wind correlation. It provides the Smart Microgrids with a way of integrating the distributed renewable energy generation. Our study on Smart Microgrid state estimation can be extended to the estimation of unbalanced three phase distribution systems as well as the optimal placement of smart meters.
