An Assignment Problem Algorithm Using Minimum Cost Moving Method

  • Generally, the optimal solution of assignment problem has been obtained by Hungarian algorithm with O($n^3$) time complexity. This paper proposes more simple algorithm with O($n^2$) time complexity than Hungarian algorithm. The proposed algorithm simply selects minimum cost in each row, and classified into set S, H, and T. Then, the minimum cost is moved from S to T and $S{\rightarrow}H$, $H{\rightarrow}T$. The proposed algorithm can be obtain the same optimal solution as well-known algorithms and improve the optimal solution of partial unbalanced assignment problems.

  • This paper suggests simple search algorithm for optimal solution in assignment problem. Generally, the optimal solution of assignment problem can be obtained by Hungarian algorithm. The proposed algorithm reduces the 4 steps of Hungarian algorithm to 1 step, and only selects the minimum cost of row and column then gets the optimal solution simply. For the 27 balanced and 7 unbalanced assignment problems, this algorithm finds the optimal solution but the genetic algorithm fails to find this values. This algorithm improves the time complexity O($n^3$) of Hungarian algorithm to O(n). Therefore, the proposed algorithm can be general algorithm for assignment problem replace Hungarian algorithm.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm that seeks the optimal solution for an assignment problem through a simplified process. Generally it is Hungarian algorithm that is prevalently used to solve a given assignment problem. The proposed algorithm reduces 4 steps Hungarian algorithm into 2 steps. Firstly, the algorithm selects the minimum cost from a matrix and deletes the rest of the rows and columns. Secondly, it improves on the solution through reassignment process. For 27 balanced assignment problems and 7 unbalanced problems, the proposed algorithm has successfully yielded the optimal solution, which Genetic algorithm has failed. This algorithm is thus found to be an appropriate replacement of Hungarian algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a simple linear bottleneck assignment problems (LBAP) algorithm to find the optimal solution. Generally, the LBAP has been solved by threshold or augmenting path algorithm. The primary characteristic of proposed algorithm is derived the optimal solution of LBAP from linear sum assignment problem (LSAP). Firstly, we obtains the solution for LSAP from the selected minimum cost of rows and moves the duplicated costs in row to unselected row with minimum increasing cost in direct and indirect paths. Then, we obtain the optimal solution of LBAP according to the maximum cost of LSAP can be move to less cost. For the 29 balanced and 7 unbalanced problem, this algorithm finds optimal solution as simple.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm that easily finds an optimal solution for linear bottleneck assignment problems. It is either threshold or augmenting path algorithm that is generally used to solve the bottleneck assignment problem. This paper proposes a reverse-delete algorithm that follows 2 steps. Firstly, the algorithm deletes the maximum cost in a given matrix until it renders a single row or column. Next, the algorithm improves any solution that contains a cost exceeding the threshold value $c^*_{ij}$. Upon its application to 28 balanced assignment problems and 7 unbalanced problems, the algorithm is found to be both successful and simple.

  • This paper suggests more simple algorithm than Hungarian algorithm for assignment problem. Hungarian algorithm selects minimum cost of row and column, and subtracts minimum cost from each cost. Then, performs until the number of minimum lines with 0 equals the number of rows. But, the proposed algorithm selects the minimum cost for each rows only. From the start point with over 2 to the target point with null selects in column, fixes the maximum opportunity cost that the difference of the cost of starting point and target point, and moves the cost less than opportunity cost th more than previous cost. For the 25 balance and 7 unbalance assignment problems, This algorithm gets the optimal solution same as Hungarian algorithm. This algorithm improves the time complexity $O(n^3)$ of Hungarian algorithm to $O(n^2)$, and do not performs the transformation process from unbalance to balance assignment in Hungarian algorithm. Therefore, this algorithm can be alter Hungarian algorithm in assignment problem.

  • It is well known that the current wireless sensor networks addressing methods do not work efficiently in networks more than a few hundred nodes. A standard protocol in ZigBee-Standard feature in ZigBee 2007 gives balanced tree based address assignment method with distributed manner. However, it was limited to cover less than hundreds of sensor nodes due to the wasteful use of available address space, because composed sensor networks usually make an unbalanced tree topology in the real deployment. In this paper, we proposed the hierarchical cluster tree based address assignment method to support large and scalable networks. This method provides unique address for each node with distributed manner and supports hierarchical cluster tree on-demand. Simulation results show that the proposed method reduces orphan nodes due to the address exhaustion and supports larger network with limited address space compared with the ZigBee distributed address assignment method defined in ZigBee-Standard feature in ZigBee 2007.

A Study of the 780 Music of DDC (DDC에 있어서의 음악분야 분류상의 제문제)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the problems concerning 780 music division of DDC. The object is especially arrangement of 780 music in the 20th edition of DDC which is the complete revision. The result is summarized as follows : 1. Although music is an important subject in humanities, especially in arts, it was classified as one division (780) not class. 2. The arrangement of 780 music is severely west-oriented music theory, vocal music and instrumental music. 3. Classification number of 780 music becomes longer because of the limitation of decimal notation. 4. 780 music division of DDC neglects music theory and emphasizes music practicing, especially performance. 5. The assignment of classification number is unbalanced, especially between theory and practice, composition and performance, and among sub-sections of vocal and instrumental music. 6. Many important subject are omitted in DDC music schedule, for example, musicology and branches of musicology, composition and traditional instruments of many countries. 7. Employment of terminology is often improper and inconsistant.

Optimal Algorithm for Transshipment Problem (중개수송 문제 최적 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes the most simple method for optimal solution of the transshipment problem. Usually the transshipment problem is solved by direct linear programming or TSM (Transportation Simplex Method). The method using TSM has two steps. First it is to get a initial solution using NCM, LCM, or VAM, second to refine the initial solution using MOD or SSM. However the steps is complex and difficult. The proposed method applies the method that transforms transshipment problem to transportation problem. In the proposed method it simply selects the minimum cost of rows about transportation problem, and then it applies the method that assigns a transported volume as an ascending sort of the costs of rows about the selected costs. Our method makes to be very fast got the initial value. Also we uses the method that controls assignment volume, if a heavy item of cost is assigned to a transported volume and it has a condition to be able to transform to more lower cost. The proposed algorithm simply got the optimal solution with applying to 11 transshipment problem.

The Analysis of the Achievement of Korean High School Students in the International Geography Competition (세계지리경시대회를 통해 본 고등학교 지리교육 학업성취도 분석)

  • The contents and results of teaching should be evaluated periodically and intermationally in the age of globalization. The Third Internatinal Geography Competition, held from August 13 to August 19,2000 in Seoul, was a good opportunity to compare the level of achievement in geography among Korean students with that of other countries. Students from 13 countries competed with one another by demonstrating their geographical knowledge via three kinds of test. The aim of this study is to evaluate the international level of high school students in geography education in light of the result of the competiton. Four specific contents ate analysed here: 1)the process and result of the competiton, 2) the analysis of test scores of all students, 3) the international comparison of achievement level of the Korean students, and 4)the evaluation of the examination items and their comparison with those of the first competition. The result of this study will help to evaluate ths competitive achievement of geography education in high school. Although the Korean studenrs scored high marks overall, their were relafively weak in the fieldwork assignment. This shows that instructions in geography are unbalanced.
