Synthesis and Photocatalytic Activity of TiO2/BiVO4 Layered Films under Visible Light Irradiation

  • $TiO_2/BiVO_4$ layered films were prepared by sol-gel and spin coating methods. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Uv-vis spectroscopy were used to investigate the crystal structure, morphology and ultraviolet-visible absorption of the $TiO_2/BiVO_4$ films. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared films was inspected according to the degradation of methylene blue. The results show that the prepared films present a net chain structure; the absorption band edge had obvious red shift. The degradation of the methylene blue solution was about 80% after 300 mins using $TiO_2/BiVO_4$ layered films under visible light, which was stronger than when using only pure $TiO_2$ film and $BiVO_4$ film.

Optical Properties and Structure of Black Cobalt Solar Selective Coatings (흑색 코발트 태양 선택흡수막의 광학적특성과 구조)

  • Black cobalt solar selective coatings were prepared by thermal oxidation of electroplated cobalt metal on copper and nickel substrates. The optical properties and structure of the black cobalt selective coating for solar energy utilizations were characterized by glow discharge spectrometry (GDS), ultraviolet-visible-near infrared (UV-VIS-NIR) spectrometer, atom force microscopy(AFM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). The optical properties of optimum black cobalt selective coating prepared on copper substrate were a solar absorptance of 0.82 and a thermal emittance of 0.01. From the GDS depth profile analysis of these coatings, the concentration of cobalt particles near the interface was higher than at the surface, but oxygen concentration at the surface was higher than at the interface. These results suggest that the selective absorption was dominated by this chemical composition variation in the coating. The surface of this film exhibited morphology with root-mean-square(rms) roughness of about 144.3nm. XPS measurements data showed that several phases of Co coexist($Co_3O_4$,CoO) in the film.

Synthesis of High Concentrated $TiO_2$ Nano Colloids and Coating on Boron Nitride Powders (고순도로 합성된 나노콜로이드 티타늄옥사이드의 BN 파우더 코팅에 관한 연구)

  • High concentrated $TiO_2$ nano colloids were synthesized by sol-gel method. Reactions were performed in $TiCl_4$/HCl/$H_2O$ aqueous solution and the conditions of particles such as shape, size and aggregation, etc. were controlled by polymerization and adsorption of acrylamide in surface of $TiO_2$ nano particles. And also, aminopropyltriethoxysilane was added instead of acrylamide and compared each other. The prepared colloids were well dispersed and showed the strong absorption peaks at 350nm-370nm which is blue shifted to 20-30nm, compared to macro particles. The obtained techniques from $TiO_2$ nato colloids synthesis were utilized in coating on boron nitride powders which are nonpolar and isoelectronic materials of carbon. Their surface morphology, structure, thermal stability and U. V absorption chracteristics were examined by SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy), XRD(X-ray diffraction), TG/DTA(Thermogravimetric and Differential Thermal Analysis), UV-VIS(Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy).

Optical Reactivity Modification of Titanium Oxide coatings on Ceramic filters by Nitrogen ion Implantation

  • We investigated the modification of optical response properties of titanium dioxide (TiO2) coatings on the ceramic water-purification filters by using ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The TiO2 coatings were prepared on ceramic substrate by e-beam evaporation method. These amorphous TiO2 were turned into anatase phase by heat treatment at $700^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. The doping of N atoms into the TiO2 coatings was done by using 70KeV of N+ ion implantation with the dose of $1.0{\times}1017$ ions/cm2, followed by post-irradiation heat treatment at $550^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. Methylene blue test of TiO2 coatings to solar irradiation showed that the post-evaporation heated TiO2 was photocatalytic and N-doped TiO2 reacted to the visible part of solar irradiation.

Measurements of Photoabsorption Cross Sections of Nitric Oxide by Using Double-Ionization Chamber

  • A synchrotron light source is useful in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) regime for olecular spectroscopy, such as photo absorption, photoionization, and dissociative hotoionization. In this research, we used a double-ion chamber (DIC) to measure hotoabsorption cross sections of a NO molecule in the wavelength range from 90 to 135 nm of 3B1 beam-line of the Pohang synchrotron light source with the resolution of the onochromator being 0.06 nm. The appearance wavelength for ionization was measured to be $134.19{\pm}0.09nm$ that is placed in the middle of the reported values though they don't agree with each other within the relative error limits. The auxiliary experimental works ave been done to test if there are any systematic error sources. The resultant ross-sections agree with previous results in general.

  • Intracavity second harmonic generation of diode pumped solid state lasers in the visible and ultraviolet regions provide efficient, compact and robust light sources for various applications, such as optical data storage, material processing, spectroscopy and bioanalysis. Advantages of neodymium vanadate (Nd:$YVO_4$) as a gain medium for intracavity-doubled lasers over Nd:YAG lie in the facts that the gain spectrum consists of a single line with short absorption depth, and that the stimulated emission cross sections are larger.   • Controlled reduction of silver alkylcarbamate complexes with hydrogen gas was investigated as a facile synthetic method for high concentrations of silver nanocolloids in organic solvent. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was used to stabilize the silver colloids obtained from the chemical reduction. To determine optimum conditions for preparation of the stable and controlled silver colloids with the narrowest particle size and distribution, a large number of experiments were carried out involving variations in the concentrations of the silver 2-ethylhexylcarbamate (Ag-EHCB) complex, PVP, and 2-propanol. The initial colloid had a mean particle diameter between 5$\sim$50 nm, as measured by transmission electron microscopy, and exhibited a sharp absorption band in the UV region with a maximum size near 420 nm. After treatment with a reducing agent, the colloids were characterized by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy.

The Influence of Hydrotalcite Intercalated with Benzoate on UV Stability of Acrylic Coating

  • It is important to realize that benzoate was intercalated into hydrotalcite (HTC-Bz) by the co-precipitation method. In this case, acrylic coating with 0.5 wt% HTC-Bz was deposited on carbon steel using the spin coating method. Next, the HTC-Bz structure was characterized by Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). In fact, an ultraviolet vision spectroscopy (UV-Vis) was used to determine the benzoate content in HTC-Bz, and the UV absorption ability of HTC-Bz. Using electrochemical techniques, water contact angle measurement, and thermal-gravimetric analysis, we compared the protective properties before and after QUV test, hydrophobicity and the thermal stability of acrylic coating containing HTC-Bz. The obtained results showed that HTC-Bz with a plate-like structure was successfully synthesized; benzoate was intercalated into the interlayer of hydrotalcite with a concentration of 28 wt%. Additionally, it was noted that HTC-Bz has an UV absorption peak at 225 nm. In conclusion, the addition of HTC-Bz enhanced the UV stability, hydrophobicity and the thermal stability of acrylic coating.

The Effect of Tail State on the Electrical and the Optical Properties in Amorphous IGZO (비정질 InGaZnO4 박막의 전기적, 광학적 특성간의 상관관계 연구)

  • In order to investigate the effect of tail state on the electrical and the optical properties in amorphous IGZO(a-IGZO), a-IGZO films were deposited at room temperature on fused silica substrats using pulsed laser deposition method. The laser pulse energy was used as the processing parameter. In-situ post annealing was carried out at $150^{\circ}C$ right after the film deposition. The $O_2$ partial pressure during the deposition and the post annealing was fixed to 10mTorr. The carrier mobility of the a-IGZO films had a range from 2 to $18\;cm^2/Vs$ at carrier concentrations greater than $10^{18}\;cm^{-3}$. As the laser energy density increased, the Hall mobility increased. And post annealing improved the Hall mobility, as well. The optical property was examined using the ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. The a-IGZO films that have low Hall mobility exhibited stronger and broader absorption tails in >3.0 eV region. Post annealing reduced the intensity of the tail-like absorption. The absorption tail in a-IGZO films is an important factor which affects the electrical and the optical properties.

Spectroscopic Characteristics of Ruby from Gorno-Badakhshan, Tajikistan (타지키스탄 고르노바다흐샨주 지역 루비에 대한 분광학적 특성 연구)

  • Physical properties, XRF, UV-Vis, FTIR studies were carried out in order to characterize gemological features of ruby from Tajikistan. Fluorescence reaction of the Tajikistan ruby to short wave ultraviolet was moderate to very strong in red and long wave ultraviolet rays was weakly detected. UV-visible analysis strong absorption bands at 468.5, 475, 476.5 nm and broaden bands at 550 nm were observed for ruby due to $Cr^{3+}$. According to FT-IR analysis, all rubies from Tajikistan showed the similar patterns and kaolinite peaks at 3500, 3617, 3630, $3677cm^{-1}$ and boehmite broaden absorption bands at 3085 and $3320cm^{-1}$. Inclusions in Tajikistan ruby are observed solid inclusions, negative crystals, needle and silk inclusions. These distinctive characteristics mentioned above can be used to identify the locality and source of ruby stones from Tajikistan.
