  • We show physically and mathematically that magnetoelastic coupling coefficients can be predicted to have a form of $B^{eff}=B^{b}+B^{s}/t$, sirniiarily in effective magnetic anisotropy energy in ultrathin films. The inverse thickness dependnce of magnetoelastic coupling coefficients implies lots of technical potentials.

  • The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell requires the use of Pt-based catalysts. Due to the high cost and low abundance of Pt, many researchers have been studied to reduce the use of Pt while to enhance the catalytic performance of Pt. One of the promising strategies is the deposition of Pt as ultrathin skins of only a few atomic layers on nanoscale substrates made of another metal. This presentation will discuss the conformal deposition of Pt as uniform, ultrathin shells on Pd nanocrystals. By optimizing the catalytic behavior of Pt-based nanocrystals, we obtained the greatly enhanced ORR activity and durability.

  • We report on the metal-insulator transition that occurs as a function of film thickness in ultrathin $La_{0.75}Sr_{0.25}VO_3$ films. The metal-insulator transition displays a critical thickness of 5 unit cell. Above the critical thickness, metallic films exhibit a temperature driven metal-insulator transition with weak localization behavior. With decreasing film thickness, oxygen octahedron rotation in the films increases, causing enhanced electron-electron correlation. The electron-electron correlations in ultrathin films induce the transition from metal to insulator in addition to Anderson localization.

  • Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique can speak the best candidate of the future molecular electronic devices. But, precursor as molecular ultrathin film devices require the bulk property that are influenced by the molecular orientation. So, this device is one of current interest in molecular electronic device development of new materials. In this study, quantitative evaluation of molecular orientation in LB films of polyamic acid alkylamine salt was performed analysis experiment comparing the absorption or transmission intensity of the FT-IR spectrometer and reflection or absorption spectra with UV-visible absorption spectra. It could find that the polar angle(${\theta}$) of the dipole moment appears in about $68^{\circ}$ and the tilting angle of the alkyl chain is about $11.5^{\circ}$.

  • Enhancing the electrical conductivity of the ultrathin organic films is one of the important factors for the development of molecular electronic devices. The Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique has recently been attracted interest as the a method of deposition ultrathin films. We have fabricated N-docosyl-N'-methyl viologen-diTCNQ(DMVT) anion radical LB film and investigated the optical and electrical conductivity. We have measured UV/visible and FT-lR spectrum. In ESR spectrum, we confirmed that a half-amplitude linewidth is clearly dependent on both temperature and incident angle, which indicates conducting species change. The in-plane electrical conductivity of 21 layers is approximately 1.37$\times$10$^{-6}$ (S/cm).

  • We present a simple process for the fabrication of high performance transparent conducting films that contain single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) noncovalently coated with an ultrathin titania layer. The hydrophobic interactions between nanotube surfaces and the acetylacetone (acac) ligands used to stabilize the $TiO_2$ precursor provide an interesting alternative method for noncovalently coating the SWCNTs with a titania layer. The ultrathin titania layer on SWCNTs prevented the oxidation of functionalized SWCNTs at high temperatures, and protected against water molecule absorption.
