Purpose: Essential oils are secondary metabolites of herbs and have antibacterial activities against foodborne pathogens. However, their applications for food protection are limited due to the hydrophobic and volatile natures of essential oils. Methods: In this study, essential oil nanoemulsions of rosemary and lavender were formulated with non-ionic surfactant Tween 80 and water using ultrasonic emulsification, and their antibacterial effects were determined. Results: The antibacterial activities of nanoemulsions were evaluated against 12 strains of 10 bacterial species, and significant antibacterial effects were observed against four Gram-positive and four Gram-negative bacteria but not against Streptococcus mutans and Shigella sonnei. In the disc diffusion test, the diameter of the inhibition zone proportionally increased with the concentration of nanoemulsions. Using cell turbidity measurement, minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the nanoemulsions, which is the lowest concentration reducing viability of the initial bacterial inoculum by ${\geq}99.9%$, was significantly higher than the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the nanoemulsions. The largest bactericidal effects of lavender and rosemary essential oil nanoemulsions were observed against S. enterica and S. aureus, respectively. Conclusion: Nanoemulsion technique could improve antibacterial activity of essential oil nanoemulsions by increasing the solubility and stability of essential oils. Our findings shed light on the potential use of essential oil nanoemulsions as an alternative to chemical sanitizers in food protection.

The acousto-optical spectrometer as a new type backend of the receiver system for radio astronomical observations is manufactured for radio signal analysis. We studied on the effect of Acousto-Optic and Acousto-Optic devices and designed the optics system. We manufactured the optical mount and the CCD detector for deflected beam and interface card. This acousto-optical spectrometer consisted of a laser, optics, acousto-optic deflector, CCD detector and Interface card. This system use He-Ne laser as a light source and use optics to get parallel beam and to focus the deflected beam. Acousto-optic deflector converts IF signal to ultrasonic wave and deflect the laser beam according to the Bragg deflection. The ultra wide band acousto-optic deflector has 1 GHz bandwidth and a total of 2,048 channel Charge Coupled Device for signal detection. In this study, we discuss the theoretical description on the effect of Acousto-optics, the design of the optics, manufacture of optical mount, CCD detector, interface card and we presented the results of experiment. As a result of measurement, we have 1,000 channels bandwidth from CCD channels.

Design for a quiet operation of fluid power system requires the understanding of noise and vibration characteristics of the system. It's not easy to analyze noise problem in hydraulic cylinder used in typical actuator Because they've got complex fluid dynamics. One of the fundamental problems associated with the hydraulic system is the pulsating flow in pipe lines, which can be tackled by the analysis under simplifying assumptions. The present study focuses on theoretic analysis and experimental study on the dynamics of laminar pulsating flow in a circular pipe. We analyze the propagation characteristics of the pressure pulse within a hydraulic pipe line taking into account the pulsating flow frequency variation. We also measure instantaneous pressure pulses within pipe line to identify the transfer functions. We conduct series of experiments to investigate the propagation characteristics of pressure pulse for various pressure of pulsating flow. The working fluid of the present study is ISO VG46 and the temperature ranges from 20 to $60^{\circ}$ with normal pressure at 4000kPa. The flow rate is measured by using an ultrasonic flow meter. Pressures at fixed upstream and downstream positions are measured concurrently. The electric signals of the pressure sensor are stored and analyzed using a system analyzer(PKE 983 series). The frequency is varied in the range of 10~500Hz. The Reynolds number is kept below 2,000. In the present study, boundary condition was varied by installing a surge tank and an orifice at the end of pipe. Experimental and theoretical results were compared each other under various boundary conditions.
Purpose: Yield monitoring systems are an essential component of precision agriculture. They indicate the spatial variability of crop yield in fields, and have become an important factor in modern harvesters. The objective of this paper was to review research trends related to yield monitoring sensors for grain crops. Methods: The literature was reviewed for research on the major sensing components of grain yield monitoring systems. These major components included grain flow sensors, moisture content sensors, and cutting width sensors. Sensors were classified by sensing principle and type, and their performance was also reviewed. Results: The main targeted harvesting grain crops were rice, wheat, corn, barley, and grain sorghum. Grain flow sensors were classified into mass flow and volume flow methods. Mass flow sensors were mounted primarily at the clean grain elevator head or under the grain tank, and volume flow sensors were mounted at the head or in the middle of the elevator. Mass flow methods used weighing, force impact, and radiometric approaches, some of which resulted in measurement error levels lower than 5% ($R^2=0.99$). Volume flow methods included paddle wheel type and optical type, and in the best cases produced error levels lower than 3%. Grain moisture content sensing was in many cases achieved using capacitive modules. In some cases, errors were lower than 1%. Cutting width was measured by ultrasonic distance sensors mounted at both sides of the header dividers, and the errors were in some cases lower than 5%. Conclusions: The design and fabrication of an integrated yield monitoring system for a target crop would be affected by the selection of a sensing approach, as well as the layout and mounting of the sensors. For accurate estimation of yield, signal processing and correction measures should be also implemented.

A Ventricular assist device (VAD) is one of the most efficient treatments to raise the survivability of the end stage heart failure patient. However, some of LVAD patients have died for the failures and improper control of LVAD. To detect critical dangers in LVAD, the monitoring methods of LVAD outflow have been requested, because it can be affected by patient's hemodynamic states and abnormal conditions of LVAD. In the case of an external pulsatile LVAD, the air movement through the air line can be used to estimate LVAD outflow. In this study, the air movement in the air-line of the extracorporeal pulsatile LVAD was measured with a differential pressure sensor between different points. The precise estimation of air movement could be achieved by additional measurement of air pressure. In a series of in-vitro experiments, the LVAD outflow were changed according to the afterload of LVAD and the differential pressure of LVAD didn't have close correlation with the LVAD outflow that were measured with an ultrasonic flowmeter at the same time. However, new precise estimation with the data from differential pressure and one point pressure in the air-line showed higher correlations with LVAD outflow.
While it is important to obtain the accurate information on snowfall data due to the increase in damage caused by the heavy snowfall in the winter season, it is not easy to observe the snowfall quantitatively. Recently, snow measurements using a weighing precipitation gauge have been carried out, but there is a problem that high snowfall intensity results in low accuracy. Also, the observed snowfall data are sensitive depending on wind speed, temperature, and humidity. In this study, a new process of quality control for snow water equivalent (SWE) data of the weighing precipitation gauge were proposed to cover the low accuracy of snow data and maximize the data utilization. Snowfall data (SWE) observed by Pluvio, Parsivel, snow-depth meter using laser or ultrasonic, and rainfall gauge in Cloud Physics Observation Site (CPOS) were compared and analyzed. Applying the QC algorithm including the use of number of hydrometeor particles as reference, the increased SWE per the unit time was determined and the data noise was removed and marked by flag. The SWE data converted by the number concentration of hydrometeor particles are tested as a method to restore the QC-removed data, and show good agreement with those of the weighing precipitation gauge, though requiring more case studies. The three events data for heavy snowfall disaster in Pyeongchang area was analyzed. The SWE data with improved quality was showed a good correlation with the eye-measured data ($R^2$ > 0.73).

In this study, as part of a study to improve the self-healing performance of concrete structures by applying self-healing capsules made of cementitious materials to cement composite materials, the engineering characteristics of mortars according to PCC(Powder Compacted Capsule) size and mixing ratio were compared and analyzed. For this, fluidity, compressive strength, reload test, carbonation, ultrasonic velocity, and water permeability characteristics were measured according to PCC size and mixing ratio of mortar. As a result of the measurement, the fluidity and compressive strength increased as the mixing ratio of PCC increased, and in the case of the load reload test, the healing ratio increased as the mixing ratio of PCC increased in the 03PC formulation. In the case of water permeability test, it was found that when PCC was used, the reduction ratio of water flow was up to 35 % higher than that of Plain, and when PCC with a size of 0.3 to 0.6 mm was mixed with 15 %, it was found to be effective in improving the crack healing ratio of the mortar.

This study focuses on measuring the relative wave elevation around the KSUPRAMAX-O ship and comparing it with numerical analysis results (potential and computational fluid dynamics). The relative wave elevation is a good indicator of the pressure distribution on the ship's surface, which is affected by the ship's motion, incident waves, and distributed waves. Prior to measuring the relative wave elevation, a comparative test was conducted on resistance type, capacitance type, and ultrasonic type wave probe to measure the relative wave elevation, and it was confirmed that the resistance type wave probe was suitable for measuring the relative wave elevation. A model test was performed at low speed and design speed using resistance type wave probe and compared with the results of numerical analysis result. As for the motion response, it was confirmed that the result of experiments and the result of the numerical analysis were in good agreement. The relative wave elevation showed a similar trend between the experiment and the computational fluid dynamics, but the potential analysis result showed a difference from the experiment in design speed.

In nuclear power plants, the flow rate information is a major indicator of the performance of rotating equipment such as pumps, and is a very important one required for facility operation and maintenance. To measure a flow rate, various types of methods have been developed and used. Among them, the differential pressure type using orifice and the direct doppler type using ultrasonic waves are the most commonly used. However, these flow rate measurement methods have limitations in installation, conditions and status of the measuring part, etc. To solve this problem, we have studied a new technique for measuring flow rate from scratch. In this paper, we have devised a technique to estimate the flow rate using an average moving velocity of large-scale eddy in turbulence that occurs in the piping flow field. The velocity of the large-scale eddy can be measured using the pressure fluctuation signals on the inner surface of the pipe. To estimate the flow rate, at first a cross-correlation function is applied to the two pressure fluctuation signals located at different positions in the down stream for calculating the time delay between the moving eddies. In order to validate the proposed flow rate estimation method, CFD analyses for the internal turbulence flow in pipe are conducted with a fixed flow condition, where the pressure fluctuation signals on the pipe inner surface are simulated. And then the average flow velocity of the large scale eddy is to be estimated. The estimated flow velocity is turned out to be similar to the fixed (known) flow rate.
According to the Montreal Protocol, CFC 113, one of the ozone-depleting substances, will be prohibited to use as a cleaning solvent essentially in the electronic industry. Therefore, the development of the alternative cleaning solvents to CFC 113 is being accelerated. A number of the alternative cleaning solvents are avialable on the market. The alternatives of Axarel 32(DuPont), Cleanthru 750H(KAO Chemical), and EC-Ultra(Petroferm) are chosen for the comparison of cleaning performance with CFC 113. The test methods for measuring the cleaning performance were composed of the measurement of the physical properties, the experiments on the material compatibility with cleaning solvents, the measurement of the evaporation rate, and finally the experiments of the removal efficiency. Normally the basic physical properties of the alternatives had higher boiling points, viscosity and surface tension, which were quite different to those of CFC 113. In terms of solubility of rosin-based flux, the solubilities of abietic acid (nonpolar organic) were similar, but those of the activator (polar organic) in the alternatives were better than CFC 113. The evaporation of the alternatives was very slow, compared to CFC 113, which had much lower boiling point. All the cleaning solvents showed the good material compatibility with FR4 and Cu-coated PCB. The better removal efficiencies of abietic acid were obtained when using the ultrasonic mechanical energy over the dipping method. The experiments also indicated the very slow-eavaporating solvent was not desirable with the dipping cleaning method, and the differences in the removal efficiency of the alternatives with the ultrasonic cleaning method were negligible. Among the alternatives, the overall cleaning performances were obsorved as almost similar. Before selecting the ultimate cleaning solvent, the application of cleaning machine, environmental issues, and economics are simultaneously considered with the cleaning performance.
