The Ultrasound Imaging of the Tissue Attenuation Parameter in Human Liver (간 조직 감쇄 계수의 초음파 영상)

  • As a part of the study on ultrasonic tissue characterization, conventional ultrasonic imaging system is interfaced to the personal computer to acquire raw ultrasonic signal. One approach for tissue charaterization is performed using the attenuation map to the conventional images and the resulting attenuation map images are compared and inspected inside the region of interest from the viewpoint of pattern analysis. Currently, these methods are applied and modified to effectively find out the differences between the normal control and the patients with liver cirrhosis.

  • In this paper, we describe a development of ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation software to analyze steam generator of nuclear power plant. The developed software includes classical analysis method such as A, B, C and D-scan images. And it can analyze the size and the location of internal cracks using 2D image. To do such, we obtain raw data from specimens of real pipeline of power plants, and get the crack points using LPF and differential method from obtained ultrasonic 1-dimensional data. The results of applications showed that the developed software provided accurate images of cracks on various specimens.

  • The NDT using ultrasonic is largely divided into A-Scan and C-Scan methods. Since A-Scan method is subject to subjective judgement by trained personnel, C-Scan method has been introduced, which presents the weld area in two dimensions by placing the transducers two dimensionally used in the A-Scan method. Therefore, it is necessary to develop equipment that can provide weld quality without the help of a welding expert and the presentation of effective C-Scan images. Thus, in this paper, the algorithms that express a low resolution 2-dimensional gray image formed by C-Scan method as a high-resolution color C-Scan image and automatically determine the weld quality from the generated C-Scan color image. The high resolution color C-Scan images proposed in this paper allow the exact shape of the weld point to be expressed, and an objective algorithm to use this image to automatically determine weld quality.

  • In this paper describes image enhancement technique using deconvolution processing for ultrasonic nondestructive testing. When flaws are detected fur B-scan or C-scan, blurring effect which is caused by the moving intervals of transducer degrades the quality of images. In addition, acquisited images suffer form speckle noise which is caused by the ultrasonic components reflected from the grain boundary of material (1,2). The deconvolution technique can restore sharp peak value or clean image from blurring signal or image. This processing is applied to C-scan image obtained from known specimen. Experimental results show that the deconvolution processing contributes to get improved the quality of C-scan images.

  • This paper describes a development of ultrasonic examination analysis software to analyze steam generator of nuclear power plant. The developed software includes classical analysis method such as A, B, C and D-scan images. This software provides the information of shape, depth, size and position of flaws. To do such, we obtain raw data from specimens and/or real pipeline of power plants and, modify the obtained ultrasonic 1-dimensional data according to prepared software design schedule. The developed analysis software is applied to specimens containing various flaws with known dimensions. The results of applications showed that the developed software provided accurate and enhanced images of flaws on various specimens.

  • The researches to acquire diagnostic parameters from ultrasonic images are advanced with the progress of the digital image processing technique. Especially, the detection of endocardial boundary is very important in ultrasonic images, because endocardial boundary is used as a clinical parameter to estimate both the cardiac area and the variation of cardiac volume. Various methods to detect cardiac boundary are proposed, but these are insufficient to detect boundary. In this paper, an algorithm that detects the endocardial boundary, expanding the cavity region from the center using statistical information, is proposed The value of mean and sty:nd, wd deviation in cavity region is lower than those in muscle re- gion. Therefore, if we define the multiplication of mean and standard deviation as homogeneous coefficient, it can lead to conclusion that the pixels with small variation of these coefficleno are cavity region, and extraction of endocardial boundary from cavity region is possible. The proposed method detected endocardial boundary more effectively than edge based or threshold based method and is robuster to noise than radial searching method that has high dependency for center position.

  • The reactor vessel body and closure head are fastened with the stud bolt that is one of crucial parts for safety of the reactor vessels in nuclear power plants. It is reported that the stud bolt is often experienced by fatigue cracks initiated at threads. Stud bolts are inspected by the ultrasonic technique during the overhaul periodically for the prevention of failure which leads to radioactive leakage from the nuclear reactor. The conventional ultrasonic inspection for stud bolts was mainly conducted by reflected echo method based on shadow effect. However, in this technique, there were numerous spurious signals reflected from every oblique surfaces of the thread. In this study, ultrasonic phased array technique was applied to investigate detectability of flaws in stud bolts and characteristics of ultrasonic images corresponding to different scanning methods, that is, sector and linear scan. For this purpose, simplified stud bolt specimens with artificial defects of various depths were prepared.

  • In this paper, a new method is proposed where the vision and ultrasonic sensor are used to recognize obstacles and to obtain its position and size. Ultrasonic snsors are used to obtain the actual navigation path width of the mobile robot. In conjunction with camera images of the path, recognition of obstacles and the determination of its distance, direction, and width are carried out. The characteristics of the sensors and the mobile robots used generally make it difficult to recognize all environments; accordingly, a restricted environment is employed for this study.

  • Digital processing of measured data offers a powerful means to improve the resolution and quality of ultrasonic imaging. The present research demonstrates that filtering typical B-scan images using Wiener filter enhances lateral resolutions by more than 50 percent. The filter is operated using the measured signal amplitude across the transmitter beam and the beam with. It is optimized for low noise and high resolution By an empirical approach. This bethod for lateral filtering produces a very useful result for the line images with high interference by neighboring lines.
