Uniaxial and biaxial torsional fatigue tests were conducted on the samples extracted from urban railway wheel steel. Ultimate and yield strengths of the steel were 1027.7 MPa and 626 MPa, respectively. The uniaxial fatigue limit was 422.5 MPa, corresponding 67% of the ultimate tensile strength. The ratio of ${\tau}_e/{\sigma}_e$ was 0.63. Fatigue strength coefficient and exponent were 1319.5 MPa and 0.339, respectively. Maximum principal and equivalent strain were found to be adequate parameter to predict fatigue lifetime of the steel under multiaixal fatigue condition.
When crystalline rocks are heated, thermal stress is induced by the differences in thermal expansion of the mineral composition and its orientation. In this study, high temperature uniaxial compressive tests were carried out for Iksan and Hwangdeung granites to study the deformation and failure behavior due to thermal loading. Compressive and tensile strength of Hwangdeung granite for 20$0^{\circ}C$ decreased to 80% and 82% of the room temperature strength, and those of Iksan granite decreased to 90% and 92% for 20$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. Elastic moduli of both granites were decreased sharply at the stress level of 80% of ultimate failure strength. Elastic moduli of both granites by variation of temperature at 50% of ultimate failure strength was decreased as almost linearly.
This is the first of two part series on experimental studies of grout type transverse joints. In this study, grout type transverse joints between precast concrete slabs are statically tested to determine the cracking loads and ultimate shear capacities of the grout type transverse joints. The tests are performed with a loading equipment designed and constructed especially in the lab to induce shear failures on the joints of the test specimens. Shape of the transverse joints, grouting materials and amount of prestress are selected as test parameters for the study. The results indicate that epoxy is an excellent grouting material which can be used in limited locations where large tensile stress is acting on the slab. Longitudinal prestressing is also an effective method to increase the shear strength of the transverse joints. A rational method to estimate the cracking and ultimate loads for the design of grout type transverse joints is proposed based on the static loading tests. Success of the tests with shear loading equipment allowed continuing the research further onto the fatigue strength of the grout type joints, which will be presented in the second part of the paper.

In this research, a basis test on steel fiber concrete's material property was carried out and optimum design as well as material property was examined. In corroboration of it, the compressive strength was compared with the tensile strength and this paper tried to get the initial load of flexural cracking and the ultimate load in the positive-negative moment section through the static test of beam. The addition rate of the steel fiber, 0.75 SFRC specimen was failed at $65{\sim}75%$ of the static ultimate strength and it could be concluded that fatigue strength to two million cycle was around 75.2%.

The purpose of this paper is to suggest the equations that are able to predict the ultimate shear strength of the reinforced high-strength concrete beams. For this analysis, total of 83 rectangular beams were tested, and existing data of 400 was adopted. Through this analysis, the following equations are obtained. a) Shear Tensile Failure Equation : TVu={K1.K2(3.02 $\sqrt[3]{\Fc}$/$sqrt{\a/d\}$+1.74Pt)+(0.18a/d+0.567)Pww$\sigma$y]bd b) Shear Compressive Failure Equation : cVu={(29.85 $\sqrt[3]{\Fc}$-130)$\sqrt{d/a}$+(0.089$\sqrt{a/d}$=0.04)Pww$\sigma$y}bd
A detailed experimental program was conducted to investigate the flexural behavior of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) beams reinforced with high strength steel (HSS) rebars with a specified yield strength of 600 MPa via direct tensile test and monotonic four-point bending test. First, two sets of direct tensile test specimens, with the same reinforcement ratio but different yield strength of reinforcement, were fabricated and tested. Subsequently, six simply supported beams, including two plain UHPC beams and four reinforced UHPC beams, were prepared and tested under four-point bending load. The results showed that the balanced-reinforced UHPC beams reinforced with HSS rebars could improve the ultimate load-bearing capacity, deformation capacity, ductility properties, etc. more effectively owing to interaction between high strength of HSS rebar and strain-hardening characteristic of UHPC. In addition, the UHPC with steel rebars kept strain compatibility prior to the yielding of the steel rebar, further satisfied the plane-section assumption. Most importantly, the crack pattern of the UHPC beam reinforced with HSS rebars was prone to transform from single main crack failure corresponding to the normal-strength steel, to multiple main cracks failure under the condition of balanced-reinforced failure, which validated by the conclusion of direct tensile tests cooperated with acoustic emission (AE) source locating technique as well.
The impacts of reinforcing concrete matrix with steel fibers, polypropylene fibers and recycled plastic fibers using different volume fractions of 0.15%, 0.5%, 1.5% and 2.5% on the compressive and tensile characteristics are experimentally investigated in the current research. Also, flexural behavior of plain concrete (PC) beams, shear performance of reinforced concrete (RC) beams and compressive characteristics of both PC and RC columns reinforced with recycled plastic fibers were studied. The experimental results showed that the steel fibers improved the splitting tensile strength of concrete higher than both the polypropylene fibers and recycled plastic fibers. The end-hooked steel fibers had a positive effect on the compressive strength of concrete while, the polypropylene fibers, the recycled plastic fibers and the rounded steel fibers had a negative impact. Compressive strength of end-hooked steel fiber specimen with volume fraction of 2.5% exhibited the highest value among all tested samples of 32.48 MPa, 21.83% higher than the control specimen. The ultimate load, stiffness, ductility and failure patterns of PC and RC beams in addition to PC and RC columns strengthened with recycled plastic fibers enhanced remarkably compared to non-strengthened elements. The maximum ultimate load and stiffness of RC column reinforced with recycled plastic fibers with 1.5% volume fraction improved by 21 and 15%, respectively compared to non-reinforced RC column.
This paper is presented for showing the effect of cooling rate on dendrite arm spacing, correlated with the chilling power of molding materials (conventional plaster, foamed plaster, silica sand) and section thickness, and also showing relationship between dendrite arm spacing and mechanical properties for an aluminum - 8.6 percent silicon - 3.6 percent copper alloy. Local solidification time $(t_f)$ and secondary dendrite arm spacing (d) could be varied widely in accordance with the molding materials and casting thickness, and the following relationship is obtained: $d=9.4t_f\;^{0.31}$ A good correlation between dendrite arm spacing and mechanical properties such as ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, hardness was found, that is, mechanical properties decreased in a linear manner with increase in log of secondary dendrite arm spacing. Ultimate tensile strength in conventional plaster mold casting decreased by 15 percent comparing with the sand casting, where as in foamed plaster mold casting, it decreased by 30 percent comparing with the sand casting. From those results, it has been verified that DAS might be the most representative parameter for predicting mechanical properties varing with the different cooling condition.
In this study, the flexural test for reinforced high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites (R/HPFRCC) members has been conducted in order to investigate the flexural behavior including the effect of an ordinary tensile reinforcing bar. Through the test, it was observed that the flexural strength increased due to the stable tensile stress transfer of HPFRCC, even up to the ultimate state. In addition, no localized crack appeared until the yielding of the reinforcement. From the layered section analysis of the tested members, it was found that the analysis with the tensile model obtained from the tension stiffening test showed better agreement with the flexural test results, whereas the analysis with direct tension test results overestimated the flexural capacity. Through the experimental and analytical studies, two flexural failure modes have been defined in this paper; concrete crushing at the top compression layer or tensile failure at the bottom tensile layer of the beam section. Based on these two flexural failure modes, a simple formula that estimates the ultimate flexural strength of the member has been proposed in this paper. The proposed equations can be useful in a design and an analysis of R/HPFRCC members.

The main objective of this paper was to illuminate the effect of marine environmental condition on durability of reinforced concrete (RC)-corroded columns strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) layers. Small-scale columns were prepared and corroded by an accelerated corrosion process. After strengthening, compressive strength tests were carried out on control and weathered specimens. In this research, a marine simulator was designed and constructed similar to the tidal zone of marine environment in south of Iran which was selected as a case study in this research. Mechanical properties of wrapped specimens were studied after placing them inside the simulator for 3000 hours. Marine environment decreased ultimate strength by 4.5% and 26.3% in CFRP and GFRP-wrapped columns, respectively. In some corroded-columns, strengthening was carried out after replacing damaged cover by self-compacted mortar. In this method, by confining with one layer of CFRP and GFRP, 4.2% and 22.4% reduction in ultimate strength was observed, respectively, after exposure. Furthermore, the elastic-brittle behavior has been verified in this retrofit method. Also results of tension tests revealed, the ultimate tensile strength was degraded by 2% and 28.8% in CFRP and GFRP sheets, respectively, after applying marine exposure.
