Recently, with the development of service robots and with the new concept of ubiquitous world, the position estimation of mobile objects has been raised to an important problem. As pre-liminary research results, some of the localization schemes are introduced, which provide the relative location of the moving objects subjected to accumulated errors. To implement a real time localization system, a new absolute position estimation method for a mobile robot in indoor environment is proposed in this paper. Design and implementation of the localization system comes from the usage of active beacon systems (based upon RFID technology). The active beacon system is composed of an RFID receiver and an ultra-sonic transmitter: 1. The RFID receiver gets the synchronization signal from the mobile robot and 2. The ultra-sonic transmitter sends out the traveling signal to be used for measuring the distance. Position of a mobile robot in a three dimensional space can be calculated basically from the distance information from. Three beacons and the absolute position information of the beacons themselves. In some case, the mobile robot can get the ultrasonic signals from only one or two beacons, because of the obstacles located along the moving path. Therefore, in this paper, as one of our dedicated contribution, the position estimation scheme with less than three sensors has been developed. Also, the extended Kalman filter algorithm is applied for the improvement of position estimation accuracy of the mobile robot.

G-Sensor is being used for controlling motion of smart-phone and robot. G-Sensor can control motion to several direction, because it is composed of X, Y, and Z axis and also can be used on many mobile-phone by using Wi-Fi communication and RS-232C communication on the Bluetooth module. In this research, we suggest the application that realize and develop visual-vehicle-remote-control-system by using mobile-phone with G-Sensor so that drivers can more easily remote control and manage their vehicle with mobile-phone in real-time visual.

In this paper, we design and implement the architecture of the ubiquitous software robot platform (Sobot platform) based on Web 2.0. In order to provide a user with the personalized emotional service by transferring to any device without any time or geographical limitations, the software robot must be developed as a form of a platform based on the standardized data and structures. To verify the effectiveness and the feasibility of the proposed Sobot platform consisting of the terminal platform, the server platform, and the contents composer, we compose user-created emotional Sobot contents messages on heterogeneous platforms such as PC, a mobile phone, a PDA, and a web portal site and experiment a variety of Sobot transfer implementation between them.
A projection-based active information display system was proposed. The proposed system is based on Intelligent Space and a steerable projector mounted mobile robot which is called Ubiquitous Display (UD). In order to transfer visual information for a human in the Intelligent Space, the UD projects a certain shape of an image with a fixed size. Due to redundancy of degree of freedom (DOF), there are lots of situations to project a same shape and size of the image on a surface. In this paper, we describe a method to determine a goal posture of the UD. Here, the goal posture is the most efficient position and orientation of the UD so as to project visual information and it is determined by the Intelligent Space. To verify the proposed method, simulation and demonstration are carried out.
We propose and develop Home Security robot system based on Sensor Network (HSSN) configured by sensor nodes including radio frequency (RF), ultrasonic, temperature, light and sound sensors. Our system can acknowledge security alarm events that are acquired by sensor nodes and relayed in the hop-by-hop transmission way. There are sensor network, Home Security Mobile Robot (HSMR) and Home Server(HS) in this system. In the experimental results of this system, we presented that our system has more enhanced performance of response to emergency context and more speedy and accurate path planning to target position for arriving an alarm zone with obstacle avoidance and acquiring the context-aware information.
This paper presents an active assisted-living system in wireless sensor and actor network (WSAN) in which the mobile robot roles an actor. In order to provide assisted-living service to the elderly people, position recognition of the sensor node attached on the user and localization of the mobile robot should be performed at the same time. For the purpose, we use received signal strength indication (RSSI) to find the position of the person and ubiquitous sensor nodes including ultrasonic sensor which performs both transmission of sensor information and localization like global positioning system. Active services are moving to the elderly people by detecting activity sensor and visual tracking and voice chatting with remote monitoring system.
Recently, with the development of service robots and with the new concept of ubiquitous world, the position estimation of mobile objects has been raised to an important problem. As pre-liminary research results, some of the localization schemes are introduced, which provide the absolute location of the moving objects subjected to large errors. To implement a precise and convenient localization system, a new absolute position estimation method for a mobile robot in indoor environment is proposed in this paper. Position of a mobile robot in a three dimensional space can be calculated basically from the distance information from three beacons and the absolute position information of the beacons themselves. Since it is not easy to install the beacons at a specific position precisely, there exists a large localization error and the installation time takes long. To overcome these problems, and provide a precise and convenient localization system, a new auto calibration algorithm is developed in this paper. Also the extended Kalman filter has been adopted for improving the localization accuracy during the mobile robot navigation. The localization accuracy improvement through the proposed auto calibration algorithm and the extended Kalman filter has been demonstrated by the real experiments.

In this paper, we describe an implementation of small mobile robot that can be used at research and application of mobile sensor networking. This robot that will constitute the sensor network, as a platform of multi-robot system for each to be used as sensor node, has to satisfy restrictions in many aspects in order to perform sensing, communication protocol, and application algorithms. First, the platform must be designed with a robust structure and low power consumption since its maintenance after deployment is difficult. Second, it must have flexibility and modularity to be used effectively in any structure so that it can be used in various applications. Third, it must support the technique of wireless network for ubiquitous computing environment. At last, to let many nodes be scattered, it must be cost-effective and small. Considering the above restrictions of the mobile platform for sensor network, we designed and implemented robots control the current of actuator by using additional circuit for power efficiency. And we chose MSP430 as MCU, CC2420 as RF transceiver, and etc, that have the strength in the aspect of power. For flexibility and modularity, the platform has expansion ports. The results of experiments are described to show that this robot can act as sensor node by RF communication process with Zigbee standard protocol, execute the navigation process with simple obstacle avoidance and the moving action with RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indicator), operate at low-power, and be made with approx. $100.

As an absolute positioning system, iGS is designed based on ultrasonic signals whose speed can be formulated clearly in terms of time and room temperature, which is utilized for a mobile robot localization. The iGS is composed of an RFID receiver and an ultra-sonic transmitter, where an RFID is designated to synchronize the transmitter and receiver of the ultrasonic signal. The traveling time of the ultrasonic signal has been used to calculate the distance between the iGS system and a beacon which is located at a pre-determined location. This paper suggests an effective operation method of iGS to estimate position of the mobile robot working in unstructured environment. To expand recognition range and to improve accuracy of the system, two strategies are proposed: utilization of beacons belonging to neighboring blocks and removal of the environment-reflected ultrasonic signals. As the results, the ubiquitous localization system based on iGS as a pseudo-satellite system has been developed successfully with a low cost, a high update rate, and relatively high precision.
