In the ubiquitous computing environment, a ubiquitous vehicle will be a communication node in the vehicular network as well as the means of ground transportation. It will make humans and vehicles seamlessly and remotely connected. Especially, one of the prominent services in the ubiquitous vehicle is the vehicle remote operation. However, mutual-collaboration with the in-vehicle communication network, the vehicle-to-vehicle communication network and the vehicle-to-roadside communication network is required to provide vehicle remote operation services. In this paper, an Internet-based human-vehicle interfaces and a network architecture is presented to provide remote vehicle control and diagnosis services. The performance of the proposed system is evaluated through a design and implementation in terms of the round trip time taken to get a vehicle remote operation service.
Recently, as IT technology and the ubiquitous environment have diffused, the application of these techniques are being attempted in the field of traffic operations and management. Therefore, it is necessary to develop data collection systems and signal control strategies that are suitable in the ubiquitous environment and that will improve efficiency and safety of signalized intersections. The authors conducted a study on the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) signal control strategy using a wireless communication network between individual vehicles and a signal-control system and full actuated signal control technique to propose a new signal control strategy in the ubiquitous environment. The WSN was defined to evaluate the algorithm used with PARAMICS API simulation. The simulation produced results that the WSN signal control is more effective than other signal control methods. The WSN signal control could reduce vehicle delay time to a maximum of 64% in comparison with other signal control methods in low and near saturation flow conditions.

Context-based access control is an emerging approach for modeling adaptive solution, making access control management more flexible and powerful. However, these strategies are inadequate for the increased flexibility and performance that ubiquitous computing environment requires because such systems can not utilize effectively all benefit from this environment. In this paper, we propose a solution based on risk to make use of many context parameters in order to provide good decisions for a safety environment. We design a new model for risk assessment in ubiquitous computing environment and use risk as a key component in decision-making process in our access control model.

In an ubiquitous environment, for controlling user access according to environment of users, a number of access control models enforcing dynamic environment of users have been proposed. However, they do not support personalized environments of each user and have a run-time overhead of searching active roles. In this paper, we propose a new model, PE-RBAC, that extends the RBAC architecture by addition of a personalized environment component as a constraint to accommodate dynamic and mobile users. In this model, a dynamic role activation is presented by using a new role-to-environment structure instead of the conventional role hierarchy, which makes it efficient to find the active roles according to a user's personalized environment.

Recently, various ubiquitous networking services are developed and implemented for easy living. In general, new ubiquitous networking services require the new infrastructure including equipments and devices. However, it is difficult to replace existing infrastructure and devices with new ones in the home or office because of cost and maintenance problems. In this paper, we developed small-size web based RF wireless communication systems for sensor network applications. The designed RF systems are implemented using commercial system on a chip (SoC) on existing infrastructure and devices. The developed systems are tested for light control and temperature sensing and they are applied to sensor network training courses for students and engineer as well as various practical applications.
An integrated type fire alarm control panel which is for the purpose of the ubiquitous environment application is reported. For the ubiquitous environments, mainly three additional functions upon its inherent capabilities are implemented. That is, wireless technology with ZigBee capability is applied for the interface of ZigBee detectors. Camera images can be displayed in the fire alarm control panel in which images are transferred via ethernet. For the time synchronization of the distributed fire alarm control panel, GPS module is introduced and implemented in the system.

Traditional access control models like role-based access control model are insufficient in security needs in ubiquitous computing environment because they take no thought of access control based on user's context or environment condition. In these days, although researches on context-aware access control using user's context or environment conditions based on role-based access control are emerged, they are on the primary stage. We present context definitions md an access control model to provide more flexible and dynamic context-aware access control based on role-based access control. Specially, we describe the conflict problems occurred in the middle of making an access decision. After classifying the conflict problems, we show some resolutions to solve them. In conclusion, we will lay the foundations of the development of security policy and model assuring right user of right object(or resource) and application service through pre-defined context and context classification in ubiquitous computing environments. Beyond the simplicity of access to objects by authorized users, we assure that user can access to the object, resource, or service anywhere and anytime according to right context.
With the advent of ubiquitous computing environments, it has become increasingly important for applications to take full advantage of contextual information, such as the user's location, to offer greater services to the user without any explicit requests. In this paper, we propose context-aware active services based on context-aware middleware for URC systems (CAMUS). The CAMUS is a middleware that provides context-aware applications with a development and execution methodology. Accordingly, the applications based on CAMUS respond in a timely fashion to contextual information. This paper presents the system architecture of CAMUS and illustrates the content recommendation and control service agents with the properties, operations, and tasks for context-aware active services. To evaluate CAMUS, we apply the proposed active services to a TV application domain. We implement and experiment with a TV content recommendation service agent, a control service agent, and TV tasks based on CAMUS. The implemented content recommendation service agent divides the user's preferences into common and specific models to apply other recommendations and applications easily, including the TV content recommendations.
This research is about the methods in making computers understand the situation in regards to interaction between House and Human Behavior. In this paper, house is the ubiquitous house, as a future house, adopting ubiquitous computing presenting the interrelation of human and house - interior space, architecture, nature. And the Context Aware Model of ubiquitous house is proposed to embody the ubiquitous house. The research objective is to systematize the context in the ubiquitous house and suggest a theoretical basis to embody the ubiquitous house interacting between the House ud Human Behavior Especially, this paper focuses on the Context Aware Model based on FengShui-Theory(sp. YangTaek-Theory). The ubiquitous house is not what operates passively by human but a information-oriented house that can predict the situation and the living patterns of human. For a information-oriented house and informal living context at home, this paper uses FengShui-Theory whose central concern is the interrelation of human and nature. Through these concepts, this research will suggest how to systematize, control and manage the context at home. In the end, it is expected to offer a theoretical basis to embody the intelligent house and apply an environment design communicating between the computers and human.

With the advancement of the industry such as information technology, residential facilities has been consistently achieved high standard. Ubiquitous system has been introduced in apartments nowadays, and it will be general facilities in the near future. However elderly people is not generally accustomed to ubiquitous or internet environment, so degree of ubiquitous system usage is able to be less than young people. This study aims to grasp the relative importance of ubiquitous environment, and offer materials to realize residential environment's improvement of silver towns under investigation through a questionnaire survey. Skin recognition system was most preferred among various functions. Energy management system, protection system of solitude elderly person and security system by CCTV was also preferred at a high rate. Housework part such as cooking aid, height control of sink and basin etc., was not less important system relatively.
