Highly Miniaturized and Performed UWB Bandpass Filter Embedded into PCB with SrTiO3 Composite Layer

  • In this paper, a highly miniaturized and performed UWB bandpass filter has been newly designed and implemented by embedding all the passive elements into a multi-layered PCB substrate with high dielectric $SrTiO_3$ composite film for 3.1 - 4.75 GHz compact UWB system applications. The high dielectric composite film was utilized to increase the capacitance densities and quality factors of capacitors embedded into the PCB. In order to reduce the size of the filter and avoid parasitic EM coupling between the embedded filter circuit elements, it was designed by using a $3^{rd}$ order Chebyshev circuit topology and a capacitive coupled transformation technology. Independent transmission zeros were also applied for improving the attenuation of the filter at the desired stopbands. The measured insertion and return losses in the passband were better than 1.68 and 12 dB, with a minimum value of 0.78 dB. The transmission zeros of the measured response were occurred at 2.2 and 5.15 GHz resulting in excellent suppressions of 31 and 20 dB at WLAN bands of 2.4 and 5.15 GHz, respectively. The size of the fabricated bandpass filter was $2.9{\times}2.8{\times}0.55(H)mm^3$.

협대역 저지 특성을 가지는 UWB용 마이크로스트립 필터 설계 (The Design of Microstrip Band-Selective Filter with Narrow Stopband for UWB Application)

  • A compact microstrip band-selective filter for ultra-wideband (UWB) radio system is proposed. The filter combines the traditional short-circuited stub highpass filter and coupled resonator bandstop filter on both sides of the mitered 50-ohm microstrip line. To realize the pseudo-highpass filtering characteristic over UWB frequency band (3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz), a distributed highpass filter scheme is adopted. Three coupled resonators are utilized to obtain the band stop function at the desired frequency band. By meandering the coupled resonators, there is 29% reduction in footprint compared to the traditional bandstop filter using L-shaped resonators. The measured results show that the filter has a wide passband of 146.7 % (2.1 GHz to 10.15 GHz) with low insertion loss and the stop band of 7.42 % (5.32 GHz to 5.73 GHz) for 3-dB bandwidth. The measured group delay is less than 0.7 ns within the passband except the rejection band.

An Optimal Design of the Compact CRLH-TL UWB Filter Using a Modified Evolution Strategy Algorithm

  • This paper deals with an efficient optimization design method of a compact ultra wideband (UWB) filter which can improve the characteristics of the filter. The Evolution Strategy (ES) algorithm is adopted for the optimization and modified to suppress the ripple by inserting an additional step to the ES scheme. The algorithm has the ability to control the ripple of an insertion loss in a passband as a modified approach. During the modified ES, a structure of initial shape is changed a lot, while includes the stepped impedance (SI) and the composite right/left handed transmission line (CRLH-TL). And an optimized filter satisfies the UWB specifications on the stopband and passband with an acceptable insertion loss. The filter achieves a much developed shape, the size of $15{\times}14mm$, the 3dB bandwidth from 2.7 to 10.8GHz, the flat insertion-loss less than 1dB, the wide stopband with 12~20GHz, and an acceptable return loss.

P2P Ranging-Based Cooperative Localization Method for a Cluster of Mobile Nodes Containing IR-UWB PHY

  • problem of pedestrian localization using mobile nodes containing impulse radio ultra wideband (IR-UWB) is considered. IEEE 802.15.4a-based IR-UWB can achieve accurate ranging. However, the coverage is as short as 30 m, owing to the restricted transmit power. This factor may cause a poor geometric relationship among the mobile nodes and anchor nodes in certain environments. To localize a group of pedestrians accurately, an enhanced cooperative localization method is proposed. We describe a sequential algorithm and define problems that may occur in the implementation of the algorithm. To solve these problems, a batch algorithm is proposed. The batch algorithm can be carried out after performing the sequential algorithm to linearize the nonlinear range equation. When a sequential algorithm cannot be performed due to a poor geometric relationship among nodes, a batch algorithm can be carried out directly. Herein, Monte Carlo simulations are presented to illustrate the proposed method and verify its performance.

Controllable Band-Notched Slot Antenna for UWB Communication Systems

  • We propose a slot antenna consisting of a rectangular slot on the ground plane, fed by a microstrip line with a rectangular-ring-shaped tuning stub that can be deployed in ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems to avoid interference with wireless local area network (WLAN) communication. Our antenna can achieve a single band-notched property from the 5 GHz frequency to the 6 GHz frequency owing to a controllable band notch that uses L- and J-shaped parasitic elements. The antenna characteristics can be modified to tune the band-notched property (4 GHz to 5 GHz or 6 GHz to 7 GHz) and the bandwidth of the band notch (1 GHz to 2 GHz). Furthermore, the shifted notch with enhanced width of the band notch from 1 GHz to 1.5 GHz is described in this paper. The UWB slot antenna and L- and J-shaped parasitic elements also provide the band-rejection function for reference in the WiMAX (3.5 GHz) and WLAN (5 GHz to 6 GHz) regions of the spectrum. Experiment results evidence the return loss performance, radiation patterns, and antenna gains at different operational frequencies.

  • 초 광대역 레이더는 숨겨진 물체를 찾는데 많은 장점을 가지고 있기 때문에, 지표 투과 레이더나 수풀 투과 레이더와 같은 투과레이더에 널리 이용되고 있다. 초 광대역 레이더의 종류 중에 하나인 잡음 레이더는 간섭 환경에 강한 특성을 가지고 있다. 그러나 일반적인 잡음레이더는 고속의 아날로그 디지털 변환기가 필요하여 광대역 레이더로 제작하는데 어려움이 있다. 본 논문에서는 간섭에 강한 특징을 가지면서 고속의 아날로그 디지털 변환기가 필요하지 않은 가상 잡음 레이더 시스템이 연구되었다. 또한, 초 광대역 시스템이 저주파에서 구현되었고, 이는 실험으로 성능이 검증되었으며, 제안된 가상잡음 레이더 시스템의 개념도 증명되었다.

MB-OFDM UWB에서 효율적인 자동 이득 조절 장치 (Automatic Gain Control Algorithms for MB-OFDM UWB System)

  • 본 논문에서는 시스템 구현에 직접적으로 사용될 수 있는 직교 주파수 분할 다중화 (OFDM : Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) 통신 시스템을 위한 여러 가지 자동 이득 제어 (AGC : Automatic Gain Control) 알고리듬을 제안하고자 한다. 본 논문에서는 고속 패킷 전송을 위하여 비교적 많은 샘플 수를 갖고 긴 길이의 프리앰블을 반복적으로 사용하는 초 광대역 통신 (UWB : Ultra-Wideband)과 같은 OFDM 시스템의 디지털 수신 신호를 가정한다. 이러한 OFDM 시스템에서는 프리앰블 신호를 아날로그-디지털 변환기 (ADC : Analog-to-Digital Converter)를 통해 디지털 수신 신호로 변환한 후 최대 샘플 값 계수기내 버퍼의 길이만큼 디지털 수신 신호를 저장한다. 이 후 버퍼에 저장된 디지털 수신 신호 중 최대 샘플의 개수를 계산하고 이득 조절 신호 발생기에 저장된 이득 조절 테이블에 따라 이득을 조절하여 ADC 입력단의 전력 레벨을 자동으로 조절한다.

IEEE 802.15.4a를 활용한 TH UWB-IR 의료영상 전송 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on the TH UWB-IR Medical Image Transmission System using the IEEE 802.15.4a)

  • 본 논문에서는 WPAN 환경에서 IEEE 802.15.4a 규격을 활용한 TH UWB-IR 의료영상 전송 시스템을 제안하였다. 또한, 무선 의료영상 전송을 위해 ITU-R M.1225 다중경로 채널 모델을 이용하여 실내 다중경로 페이딩 환경에서의 송수신 성능을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 제안한 방식은 동일 공간에서 사용되는 의료장비와의 간섭 영향에 관한 문제의 해결이 가능하고 실내 다중경로 페이딩 환경에서 의료영상의 손실을 최소화하면서 저 전력 전송이 가능함을 알 수 있었다.

UWB용 대역 저지 필터 설계 (Design of a Band-Stop Filter for UWB Application)

  • 본 논문에서는 초광대역(UWB: Ultra-Wideband) 무선 통신 시스템에 적합한 소형의 마이크로스트립 대역 저지 필터를 제안한다. 제안된 필터는 $50{\Omega}$ 마이크로스트립 선로 좌측에 단락 스터브(short-circuited)를 이용한 고역 필터와 우측에 결합 공진기를 이용한 대역 저지 필터를 합성하였다. 3.1 GHz에서 10.6 GHz까지의 초광대역 특성을 갖는 고역 필터를 설계하기 위해서 the mixed lumped/distributed(L/D) 방법을 이용하였다. 또한 원하는 주파수 대역의 협대역 저지 필터를 설계하기 위해서 3개의 결합 공진기(coupled resonator)를 이용하였다. 공진기를 미앤더(meander) 형태로 구현함으로써 L-형태의 공진기에 비해 면적을 $29\%$ 정도 소형화시켰다. 측정 결과 3-dB 삽입 손실을 기준으로 $146.7\;\%(2.1\;GHz{\sim}10.15\;GHz)$의 광대역 통과 특성을 얻었으며 $10.04\;\%(5.2\;GHz{\sim}5.75\;GHz)$의 저지 대역을 나타내었다. 측정된 군 지연(group delay) 특성은 저지 대역을 제외한 주파수 대역에서 0.7 ns 미만이다.

An Empirical Indoor Path Loss Model for Ultra-Wideband Channels

  • We present a statistical model for the path loss of ultrawideband (UWB) channels in indoor environments. In contrast to our previously reported measurements, the data reported here are for a bandwidth of 6GHz rather than 1.25GHz; they encompass commercial buildings in addition to single-family homes (20 of each); and local spatial averaging is included. As before, the center frequency is 5.0GHz. Separate models are given for commercial and residential environments and, within each category, for lineof sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLS) paths. All four models have the same mathematical structure, differing only in their numerical parameters. The two new models (LOS and NLS) for residences closely match those derived from the previous measurements, thus affirming the stability of our path loss modeling. We find, also, that the path loss statistics for the two categories of buildings are quite similar.
