Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the depigmentation effects of Barley, Unpolished rice, Job's-tear. Metbods: We investigated that the extracts of Barley, Unpolished rice, Job's-tear inhibit activity of tyrosinase, the enzyme which convert ts 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl) alanine to dopachrom in the biosynthetic process of melanin, the UV absorbance of the extracts in the UV-A region and UV-B region was measured by UV scanning, the effect of extracts on cell viability and melanin production in cultured B16 mouse melanoma cells were measured, and cytoprotective effects of extracts on PC12 cells injured by hydrogen peroxide measured by MTT assay. Results: The extracts of Barley, Unpolished rice, Job's-tear inhibited activity of tyrosinase in low density. The Barley, Job's-tear extracts not only showed inhibitory effects on melanin production in cultured B16 mouse melanoma cells, but also exhibited cytoprotective effects on PC12 cells injured by hydrogen peroxide in low density. Unpolished rice extract showed inhibitory effect on melanin production in cultured B16 mouse melanoma cells, but did not showed cytoprotective effect Barley, Unpolished rice, Job's-tear extracts did not showed an absorbance effect in the UV-A region and UV-8 region. Conclusions: These results suggest that Barley, Unpolished rice, Job's-tear inhibit melanin biosynthesis which is involved in hyperpigmentation and could be used as a whitening agent.
New organic-inorganic composite of 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone (BP-1) encapsulation into dodecylbenzenesulfonate (DBS) modified layered double hydroxide (LDH) was successfully prepared. The surface, structural, thermal and absorption properties of the BP-1/DBS-LDH nanohybrid was characterized by BET analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and diffuse reflectance UV-Vis absorbance spectra (DRUV-vis). The interlayer configuration of composite and the adsorption mechanism of BP-1 on MgAl-DBS-LDH were discussed. It was suspected that DBS anions located in the form of monolayer arrangement with a $75^{\circ}$ anti parallel angle between dodecylbenzenesulfonate chain axis. The diffuse reflectance UV-Vis absorbance results revealed that the UV absorbing wavelength of BP-1/DBS-LDH evidently extends to about 400 nm, which shows that the BP-1/DBS-LDH has the potential application as a UV absorber.

Single-mode planar waveguide type UV sensor was fabricated using SU-8 and photochromic dye. Polymer waveguide was fabricated $10{\mu}m$ width and $2{\mu}m$ thickness for single-mode operation. The UV sensor had an absorbance with $0.0396{\sim}0.114$ absorbance/mW respectively when the 5 mm sensing area was irradiated with UV for 3 sec. And sensor had a linear properties by sensing area variation. Proposed single-mode sensor had more excellent properties of UV sensitivity than other UV sensors.

The construction of the T-shaped post-column flow cell has been changed to enhance the practicability as a UV-visible absorbance detector for capillary electrophoresis. In this new design, a rectangular cube-shaped inner structure is employed, which completely fits the outer rectangular tubing. This arrangement has greatly facilitated the fabrication of the T-cells. In addition, the volume for the auxiliary flow has been dramatically reduced down to 300 ${\mu}L$, and its volume flow rate is optimized at 4.2 ${\mu}L$/min. The short optical path length in the sheath flows (500 ${\mu}m$ on each side) minimizes background absorption, and thus enhances its performance in low-UV wavelengths. We have optimized the auxiliary flow rate at 50 ${\mu}m$/s, so that migration times are insensitive to the flow rate. This optimization has improved repeatabilities in migration times and peak heights. A double-beam detection scheme using a pair of photodiodes is employed to increase the signal-to-noise ratio.
The photocatalytic degradation of Mordant Yellow-12 (MY-12) was investigated using a UV-Visible Spectrophotometer and pH meter. The UV-Visible absorbance spectra of the MY-12 contaminated water before and after treatment were presented in figure. The decrease of absorbance occurs at the range of 250 and 450 nm, this result suggests that photocatalytic degradation involves destruction of the aromatic rings in this experiment. More than 32% of the MY-12 was decomposed after one hour in 26-W fluorescent lamp, whereas it was 17% and 24% respectively in 15-W and 21-W lamps. MY-12 was decomposed completely after three hours in 26-W fluorescent lamp. The destruction rate constants were calculated from the change of absorbance and pH.
In this paper the criteria for insulating oil condition of pole transformer were suggested by applying the UV-Visible spectrophotometric method. Ageing of insulating oil caused the change in absorbances of oil os well os the deterioration of electrical properties of oil. By comparing the electrical properties such as $tan{\delta}$ and breakdown voltage with the UV-Visible absorbances of oil, criteria for absorbance values determining oil condition were established. This UV-Visible spectrophotometric method might be applied in ageing analysis of oil and be expected to replace the current method.

We investigated UV-vis absorbances to observe photoisimerization and effect of temperature using the mixture solution in chloroform and the LB monolayer mixed with DLPE and 8A5H containing azobenzene which shows reversible cis-trans isomerization irradiated by alternate lights. We could find that the absorption spectrum of the mixtures solution and LB monolayer was reversibly induced to photoisomerization irradiated by Uv of both and visible lights, in addition the absorbance by alternate temperatures.
The electrical conductance and UV absorbance of 4,N-dimethyl Pridinium Iodide (NDMPI) were measured in the ethanol volume percentage, 95, 90, 80 and 60 of an ethanol-water mixture at 15, 25, 35 and $45^{\circ}C$. Ionic association constants(K) of NDMPI were evaluated in accordance with a combined method of conductance UV absorbance. The ion size parameter (${\gamma}_{\pm}$) and dipole momemt (${\mu}_{A+D-}$) of NDMPI were obtained from the values of K and dielectric constant. The ${\mu}_{A+D-}$- values were in good agreement with the values of transition moment(${\mu}_{mn}$) which is calculated form the UV peak values. The large negative values of the electrical enthalpy (${\Delta}H_{el}^{\circ}$) and entropy (${\Delta}H_{el}^{\circ}$ ) have proved that NDMPI had a positive hydration. The positive values of entropy (${\Delta}S^{\circ}$) means the formation of NDMPI ion goes with dehydration.
Organic nonlinear optical materials such as MNA(2-Methyl-4-nitro-aniline), Carbazole 1(5-Nitro-9-hydroxyethyl Carbazole), Carbazole 2(5-Nitro-9-ethyl Carbazole) and DR 1(Disperse Red 1) were incorporated into silica matrix to form a composite thin films. The thermal stability and degree of degradation were compared to these organic-inorganic composite film. Among those films, Carbazole 1 and DR 1 which have terminal -OH group showed enhanced stability for thermal degradation. The effect of polarization and degree of relaxation for the composite thin films incorporated with Carbazole 1 were measured by the absorbance change of UV spectra with time. With polarization treatment of Carbazole 1 incorporated composite film, the intensity of UV absorbance was remarkably reduced. And slow relaxation of Carbazole 1 molecule was suggested from the slightly recovered intensity of UV absorbance after removing the electric field at rooma temperature.
