Changes in Antioxidant and Nitrite Scavenging Activities of Angelica keiskei and Brassica loeracea var. acephala Vegetable Juices Treated with UV Irradiation during Storage (UV 조사한 신립초 및 케일 녹즙의 항산화 활성 및 아질산염 소거작용의 변화)

  • To elongate the shelf-life of Angelica keiskei and Brassica loeracea var. acephala vegetable juices, UV irradiation was used and the changes of antioxidant activity and nitrite scavenging ability were investigated. The content of polyphenols of vegetable juices were slightly reduced by UV treatment and/or storage period. The DPPH radical-scavenging activities of the vegetable juices treated by UV were higher than that of control but were not changed during storage. However, $ABTS{\cdot}^+$ reducing activities of the vegetable juices were reduced by UV treatment. The $ABTS{\cdot}^+$ reducing activity of Brassica loeracea var. acephala juice was lower when the flow rate was slower. The ferrous ion chelating effects of Angelica keiskei vegetable juices were reduced by UV treatment. In contrast, the ferrous ion chelating effects of Brassica loeracea var. acephala vegetable juices were not different from those of right after manufacturing. The ferrous ion chelating effects on both vegetable juices increased during storage periods. The inhibitory activity of lipid oxidation was decreased slightly by UV treatment on vegetable juices. The nitrite scavenging ability of Angelica keiskei and Brassica loeracea var. acephala vegetable juices treated by UV irradiation was not different from that of control. The nitrate scavenging abilities of vegetable juices in pH 1.2 were higher than those in pH 3.0 and 4.2.

Effects of UV-B Radiation and Water Stress on Hardening Phase Growth of Container-Grown Betula platyphylla Seedlings (자작나무 콘테이너묘(苗)의 경화단계(硬化段階) 생장(生長)에 미치는 UV-B 와 수분(水分)스트레스의 효과(效果))

  • This study was carried out to investigate the possibility of supplemental UV-B application to the hardening phase of container-grown Betula platyphylla seedlings. The containerized seedlings were grown in a growth chamber for four months and then treated with UV-B(UV-$B_{BE}$ $3.2KJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ and $5.2KJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$) radiation and water stress regime(irrigation in one week interval) for four weeks. The differences in growth and physiological responses of the seedlings before and after the treatments were analyzed. UV-B radiation and water stress reduced height growth and leaf dry mass accumulation of the seedlings. The root collar diameter growth was reduced by UV-B radiation but increased by water stress. The reduction in leaf dry weight by UV-B radiation and water stress reduced T/R ratio of the seedling. The reduction in T/R ratio was the most apparent by water stress. Chlorophyll index observed by a chlorophyll meter was the lowest in the $5.2KJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ of UV-B radiation, and those in the $3.2KJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ and water stress were similar. UV-B radiation and water stress reduced both water content in the seedlings and leaf water potential, and increased leaf osmatic pressure. The water content of leaves and shoots was reduced more rapidly by UV-B radiation than by water stress treatment. In conclusion, growth responses and physiological changes in water relation by supplemental UV-B radiation which was applied to the hardening phase of container-grown Betula platyphylla seedlings were similar results to the water stress treatment.

Effects of UV-B and Growth Inhibitor on Overgrowth Retardation and Growth and ield after Planting in Fruit-Vegetable Plug Seedlings (UV-B와 생장억제제 처리가 과채류 플러그 묘의 도장 억제와 정식 후 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was performed to investigate the effect of UV-B (4 kJ${\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}d^{-1}$) irradiation and growth inhibitor (50 mg${\cdot}L^{-1}$ diniconazole, 500 mg${\cdot}L^{-1}$) treatment on the overgrowth retardation and the growth and yield afterplanting in plug-grown cucumber, tomato, and hot pepper sedlings. Stem length of UV-B-irradiated and iniconazole-treated seedlings was shortened by 38 and 35%^ in cucumber, 37 and 41% in tomato, and 23 and 23% in hot pepper, respectively, compared with non-treated seedlings. While retarding effect ofhexaconazole waslower that that of UV-B or diniconazle. Leaf area and dry weight alson decreased but ldaf thickness increased in UV-B irradiated or growth-inhibitor-treated seedlings. Even thouth the plant height and leaf area of UV-B-irradiated seedlings ant seedling stage were shorter and smaller that those ofnon-treatedd seedlings, they were recovered to the similar level to the growth of non-treated seedlings 20to 30days after trasplantin. The diconazole-and hexaconazole-treated seedlings were delayed recovery to their normal growth, Fruit yiedl of UV-V-irradiated hot pepper and tomato slightly increased but UV-B irradiated cucumer had similar yield to growth-inhibitor-treated one. It suggested that the use of UV-B irradiation could become a reliable tool of overgrowth retardation of plug-grown vegetable seedlings in greenhouse.

Effects of different UV-8 levels on the growth, photosynthesis and pigments in cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.) (UV-B 강도 변화가 오이(Cucumis sativus L.)의 생장, 광합성 및 색소에 미치는 영향)

  • To investigate the effects of different UV-B levels on plant growth, cucumber plants were subjected to three levels of biologically effective ultraviolet-B(UV--$B^{BE}$ radiation [daily dose : 0.03(No UV-B), 6.40(Low UV-B) and 11.30 (High UV-B) kJ $m^{-2}$, UV--$B^{BE}$] in the growth chambers for 3 weeks during the early growth period. High and low levels of UV-B irradiation drastically decreased both dry weight and leaf area, but increased specific leaf weight of cucumber. Plants subjected to UV-B resulted in 30% and 20% reduction of photosynthesis rate by high and low UV-B, respectively. However, respiration rate was not affected by the UV-B. With increasing UV-B intensity, total chlorophyll contents were decreased linearly, while the contents of flavonoid were increased linearly. These results suggest that the present levels of UV-B may affect the growth of cucumber plant compared with a UV-B-free condition. It is likely that the growth of cucumber will be affected by enhanced UV-B due to ozone depletion in the near future.

Ultraviolet (UV)Ray 후처리를 통한 InGaZnO 박막 트랜지스터의 전기적 특성변화에 대한 연구

  • RF 스퍼터링 방법을 이용하여 제작된 IGZO 박막 트랜지스터 및 단막을 제조하여 UV처리 유무에 따른 전기적 특성을 평가하였다. IGZO 박막 트랜지스터는 Bottom gate 구조로 제조되었으며 UV처리 이후 전계효과 이동도, 문턱전압 이하 기울기 값등 모든 전기적 특성이 개선된 것을 확인 하였다. 이후 UV처리에 따른 소자의 전기적 특성 개선에 대한 원인을 분석하기위해 물리적, 전기적, 광학적 분석을 실시하였다. XRD분석을 통해 UV처리 유무에 따른 IGZO박막의 물리적 구조 변화를 관찰했지만 IGZO박막은 UV처리 유무에 상관없이 물리적 구조를 갖지 않는 비정질 상태를 보였다. IGZO 박막 트랜지스터의 문턱전압 이하의 기울기 값과을 통하여 반도체 내부에 존재하는 결함의 양을 계산한 결과 UV를 조사하였을 때 결함의 양이 감소하는 결과를 얻었으며 이 결과는 SE를 통해 밴드갭 이하 결함부분을 측정하였을 때와 같은 결과였다. 또한 UV처리 전에는 shallow level defect, deep level defect등의 넓은 준위에서 결함이 발견된 반면 UV처리 이후에는 deep level defect준위는 없어지고 shallow level defect준위 역시 급격하게 감소한 것을 볼 수 있었다. 결과적으로 IGZO 박막의 경우 UV처리를 함에 따라 결함의 양이 감소하여 IGZO박막 트랜지스터의 전계 효과 이동도를 증가 시킬 뿐 아니라 문턱전압 이하 기울기 값을 감소시키는 원인으로 작용하게 된다는 결과를 도출하였다.

Growth Responses at Different Growth Stage of Pinus densiflora Seedlings to Enhanced Uv-B Radiation (자외선-B 증가에 따른 소나무 유묘의 생장 단계별 생장 반응)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the growth responses of Pinus densiflora seedlings to enhanced UV-B environment for 16 weeks in the field condition. The seedlings were treated with one of three levels of UV-B dosages - ambient UV-B, ambient + 3.2, and ambient + 5.2 KJ m$^{-2}$day$^{-1}$ and the irradiation was performed at the stage before the germination, the fully expanded cotyledon, and the primary needles grown more than 0.8cm in length of the seedlings, respectively. Enhanced UV-B irradiation reduced the height and the root collar diameter growth, and dry mass production of the seedling, and T/R ratio was increased by the UV-B treatment. Difference in seedling growth was observed by difference in time of the UV-B treatment. Among the seedlings which were treated with ambient - 3.2 KJ m$^{-2}$day$^{-1}$, height and root collar diameter growth was relatively high in the seedling received the UV-B treatment at the stage before the germination. The lowest dry mass production was observed in the seedlings received the UV-B at stage of cotyledon both in two levels of enhanced UV-B treatment. Chlorophyll concentration was reduced by enhanced UV-B irradiation, and chlorophyll a/b ratio was increased by the UV-B treatment.

  • The physiological changes and antioxidant enzyme activities of plug seedlings irradiated with 4 kJ${\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}d^{-1}$ UV-B or sprayed growth inhibitors of 50 ${\cdot}L^{-1}$ diniconazole and 500 mg${\cdot}L^{-1}$ hexaconazole for retarding the overgrowth of cucumber, tomato and hot pepper seedlings in summer season were investigated. Photosynthetic rate just after UV-B irradiation was significantly low but recovered to the level of non-treated seedlings 10 days after IV-B irradiation. And photosynthetic rate of chemical-sprayed seedlings was slightly lower in tomatoes but not different in cucumbers and peppers, compared with non-treated seedlings. Cholrophyll contens in the leaves showed no difference among treatments. Anthocyanin contents in the leaves of UV-B-irradiated seedlings were higher and no difference inchmical-sprayed seedlings, compared with non-treated seedlings. the activites of SOD(superoside dismutase), CAT )catalase), and POD(perosidase) of UV-B-irradated seedlings were higher thatn those of the non-irradiated seedlings just after UV-B irradiation. However. 10 days after UV-B irradiation, the activities were decreased to half of the value just after UV-B irradiation Whereasd the activies of chemical-sprayed seedlings were slightly higher than those of non-treated ones but lower than those of UV-B-irradiated one.

Effect of UV-B irradiation time on storage characteristics of the fruiting body of Heuktari (UV-B조사 시간에 따른 흑타리 자실체의 저장 특성)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the changes in freshness parameters and determine the optimal UV-B irradiation conditions for each storage period for Heuktari, an oyster mushroom cultivar, grown under LED lightNo significant changes were observed in the CO2 and O2 content until day 12 of storage; however, after day 15, the CO2/O2 ratios were higher in the UV-treated groups than in the untreated groups. No color difference was observed between the UV-treated and untreated groups. In all UV-treated groups, hardness decreased over time; however, the group irradiated for 15 minutes showed higher hardness values than those of the untreated group. The UV-irradiated group showed higher ergosterol content than did the untreated group, and scanning electron microscopy revealed that mushroom cell wall destruction increased with increased UV treatment time. Overall, these findings confirmed that UV-B irradiation increased the ergosterol content of Heuktari but decreased its freshness and negatively impacted other storage characteristics.

  • In this paper, we demonstrated the orientation characteristics of liquid crystals using UV-treated FSAM as alignment layer. Moreover we confirmed the FSAM properties before and after UV treatment on indium tin oxide (ITO) glass substrates using physicochemical analysis. The hydrophobic property of the FSAM surface is change to hydrophilic through UV treatment. After UV treatment the LC molecules also were uniformly and horizontally aligned on the FSAM surfaces and the pretilt angle was obviously changed 90° degrees to 0° degrees. EO characteristic of TN cell which was fabricated with UV-treated FSAM was faster response time compare to conventional PI layer. The FSAM before and after UV treatment has a superior application potential as the LC alignment layer for LCD, potentially replacing the conventional polyimide layer.

Changes in Chemical components of Peach (Prunus persica L. Batsch) Treated with Low Dose UV-C Irradiation (저선량의 UV-C 처리 복숭아의 주요 성분 변화)

  • To extend the shelf-life of the domestic peach, a low dose UV-C irradiation (0~3.0 $kJ/m^2$) was treated and the changes of the major chemical components were investigated. The contents of polyphenols in UV-treated peaches were higher than that of control with the highest at 0.25 $kJ/m^2$ UV treatment. The contents of polyphenols of control and UV treatments were slightly reduced by storage period. The contents of flavonoid were not significantly different among the control and UV treatments. Detected free sugars of the control and UV treatments were fructose, glucose, maltose and sucrose. Sucrose content was higher than that of other free sugars and free sugar content increased during storage. And free sugar content was not significantly different between the control and UV treatments. The free amino acid content of the control and UV treatments were 115.38 mg% and 95.92~120.94 mg% respectively, but there was no significant difference between the control and UV treatments.
