A Study of Checking the Job History of External USB Media (외장형 USB 매체의 작업이력 점검 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, malicious code infiltration and leakage of confidential documents using external USB medium are frequently occurring in each field. We investigate the media to investigate incidents using external USB media, but there are many difficulties in that they can be lost or damaged. Ultimately, in order to investigate cases of external USB media, it is necessary to conduct a direct analysis of the external USB media as well as the system to which the media is connected. This paper describes an analysis of the artifacts of Windows systems to which external USB media is connected, and how to check the job history on the media. Therefore, it is expected that the system can be used to analyze the job history of the USB medium even if the external USB medium is not secured.

  • USB는 사용의 편리성, 넓은 확장성을 기반으로 PC 역사상 가장 성공적인 접속 장치로서, 현재까지 20억 개 이상이 사용되고 있고, USB가 장착된 장치의 종류 및 사용 개수도 빠르게 증가하는 추세이다. 이와 같은 USB의 발전에 힘입어 유선의 속도와 보안성에 무선의 편리함을 추가한 무선 USB 1.0 규격이 2005년 5월 발표되었으며, 상용 제품도 속속 출시되고 있다. 본 고는 유선 USB 2.0 기술에 기반하고 무선 매체로서UWB를 이용하는 무선 USB의 기술 및 표준화 동향에 대하여 소개하고, 무선 USB 기술의 특징 및 국내외 연구 동향에 대하여 살펴보고자 한다.

SoQ-based Relay Transmission Protocol for Wireless USB over WiMedia D-MAC (WiMedia D-MAC 기반 Wireless USB 시스템을 위한 SoQ-based 릴레이 통신 프로토콜)

  • The WiMedia Alliance has specified a Distributed Medium Access Control (D-MAC) protocol based on UWB for high speed wireless home networks and WPANs. In this paper, firstly, the fair SoQ-based Distributed Reservation Protocol (DRP) for D-MAC is analyzed. And a novel SoQ-based relay transmission protocol is proposed to overcome DRP conflicts fast. In the proposed protocol, each device executes the Satisfaction of QoS (SoQ) time slot allocation algorithm independently. And, in order to give the loser device due to DRP conflicts another chance to maintain QoS resources, the proposed relay transmission protocol helps the device reserve another indirect link maintaining the required QoS resources via a relay node.

  • The WiMedia Alliance has specified a Distributed Medium Access Control (D-MAC) protocol based on UWB for high speed wireless home networks and WPANs. In this paper, we propose a novel cooperative communication protocol adaptive to current UWB link transmission rate. The proposed cooperative communication protocol has compatibility with current WiMedia D-MAC and Wireless USB standard and is executed at each device according to a Relay Node Selection (RNS) criterion.

  • Wireless universal serial bus (WUSB) is the USB technology merged with WiMedia PHY/MAC. WUSB can be applied to wireless persanal area network (WPAN) applications as well as PAN applications like wired USB. Because numerous WUSB networks operate independently for each application, data conflict can occur between adjacent networks. To avoid data conflict, the resource in a different time zone can be utilized. However, if devices in a network increase, available resources in the network decrease, and then the lack of resources necessary to provide service can occur. To solve this problem, we propose interference avoidance scheme for WUSB systems.

  • 저장장치는 기술의 발달로 인해 대용량화가 가속화 되었고 휴대하기 편리하게 되었다. 그 중 휴대용 저장장치로 USB 대용량 저장장치가 널리 쓰이고 있다. 더 나아가 프라이버시와 기업의 기밀, 기술정보 유출사고가 발생함에 따라 이러한 데이터를 보호하기 위해 보안기능을 제공하는 USB저장장치의 사용량이 증가하고 있다. 디지털 수사 측면에서 볼 때 이러한 USB의 보안기능은 용의자에 의해 데이터를 은폐할 목적으로 사용될 수 있다. 이러한 현재 상황에 비추어 볼 때 보안기능이 있는 USB(이하 보안 USB)에 포렌식 관점에서 중요한 증거물이 저장될 가능성이 높아졌으며, 증거로서 보안 USB를 획득하였을 때, 해당 USB에서 데이터를 획득하기 위한 대비책이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 현재 보안 USB에 관한 동향 및 대처방안에 대해 논한다.

  • Recently, a storage media is becoming smaller and storage capacity is also becoming larger than before. However, important data was leaked through a small storage media. To solve these serious problem, many security companies manufacture secure USBs with secure function, such as data encryption, user authentication, not copying data, and management system for secure USB, etc. But various attacks, such as extracting flash memory from USBs, password hacking or memory dump, and bypassing fingerprint authentication, have appeared. Therefore, security techniques related to secure USBs have to concern many threats for them. The basic components for a secure USB are secure authentication and data encryption techniques. Though existing secure USBs applied password based user authentication, it is necessary to develop more secure authentication because many threats have appeared. And encryption chipsets are used for data encryption however we also concern key managements. Therefore, this paper suggests mutual device authentication based on PUF (Physical Unclonable Function) between USBs and the authentication server and key management without storing the secret key. Moreover, secure USB is systematically managed with metadata and authentication information stored in authentication server.

A Study on Effective Information Transfer Technique between Personal Computer and Portable Equipment (개인용 컴퓨터와 휴대장치간의 효과적 정보 전송기법 연구)

  • In this paper, the effective information transfer technique between computing device and portable device that is connected through USB interface has been studied. The proposed technique is realized by the method which portable device is perceived into optical media such as CD-ROM or CD-R/W through SCSI commands on USB interface. Through the proposed system in this study, we maximized user convenience by executing diverse works using stored data in a portable device without installing extra USB driver corresponding to portable device, when user data is transmitted between computing device and portable device. We conducted experimental tests to verify the performance of the proposed system through implementing of test system. As a result, we confirmed the technique is comparatively superior to existing method in transmitting speed and user convenience.
