  • This paper considers a ring loading problem on RPR(Resilient Packet Ring), where RPR is recommended by IEEE802.17 Resilient Packet Ring working group for data optimized networks without the requirements of provisioning circuits. RPR is well suitable for metropolitan area network with two counter-rotating rings that multiple stations share the bandwidth, where the data and its corresponding control traffic is transmitted to the two opposite directional ring, respectively. One of the major concerns on RPR is to provide fairness among traffic requirements. The paper discusses several fairness measures and analysis ring loading problems for the fairness.

  • By means of NMR spectrum analysis of the synthesized MBBA and EBBA, it has been found that benzene rings of p-n-butylaniline in both MBBA and EBBA molecules do not conjugate with the central double bond and the benzene ring is twisted from molecular plane of N-(p-methoxy or ethoxy benzylidene) group. And as a result of MO studies, the minimum energy conformation is found for the conformation of $30^{\circ}$ twisted angle. One sees reasonable agreement between theory and experiment.

  • Isoflavone daidzein is a phytoestrogen widely distributed in Leguminosae and is especially rich in the soybean. The C6-C3 (rings B and C) unit of isoflavones is derived from the phenylpropanoid pathway and the remaining C6 (ring A) unit is from the polyketide pathway. This unique carbon skeleton is the result of isomerization of the flavone catalyzed by the isoflavone synthase, a cytochrome P450 enzyme. The isoflavones daidzein and genistein are present in the plant mostly in the glucosylated forms. However, in the human intestine, the glycosidic linkage is broken, and the free form is uptaked into blood stream. The free form is further metabolized into various reduction products to end up at the equol, which is known to have the most potent estrogenic effect among the metabolites. Several human intestinal bacteria that can convert daidzein into equol have been described, and the study into the chemistry and biochemistry of the daizein reduction would be rewarding to the improvement of the human health.

  • Three crystal structures of dehydrated Cd(II) and Rb(I) exchanged zeolite A, $Cd_{4.0}Rb_{4.0}-A (a = 12.204(3) {\AA}), Cd_{5.0}Rb_{2.0}-A (a = 12.202(1) {\AA}),$ and $Cd_{5.95}Rb_{0.1}-A (a = 12.250(2) {\AA}),$ have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Their structures were solved and refined in the cubic space group Pm3m at $21(1)^{\circ}C.$ All crystals were ion exchanged in flowing streams of mixed $Cd(NO_3)_2·4H_2O$ and $RbNO_3$ aqueous solution with total concentration of 0.05 M. All crystals were dehydrated at ca. $450^{\circ}C$ and $2×10^{-6}$ Torr for 2 days. In all of these structures, $Cd^{2+}$ ions are found on threefold axes, each nearly at the center of a 6-oxygen ring. The first three $Rb^+$ ions per unit cell preferentially associate with 8-oxygen rings, and additional $Rb^+$ ions, if present, are found on threefold axes in the large cavity. The final $R_1$ and $R_2$ values for the three structures are 0.087 and 0.079, 0.059 and 0.067, and 0.079 and 0.095, respectively.

  • Two crystal structures of dehydrated $Ag^+\;and\;Ca^{2+}$ exchanged zeolite A, $Ag_2Ca_$5-A, reacting with 0.01 Torr of Cs vapor at $200^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours and 0.1 Torr of Cs vapor at $250^{\circ}C$ for 48 hours, respectively, have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Their structures were solved and refined in the cubic space group Pm3m at $21(1)^{\circ}C$. The stoichiometry of first crystal was $Ag_2Ca_5$-A (a = 12.294(1)${\AA}$), indicating that Cs vapor did not react with cations in zeolite A and that of second crystal was $Ag_2Cs_{10}$-A (a = 12.166(1)${\AA}$), indicating that all $Ca^{2+}$ ions were reduced by Cs vapor and replaced by $Cs^+$ ions. Full-matrix least-squares refinements of $Ag_2Ca_5-A\;and\;Ag_2Cs_{10}$-A has converged to the final error indices, $R_1\;=\;0.041\;and\;R_2$ = 0.048 with 227 reflections, and $R_1\;=\;0.117\;an\;n\;fdd\;R_2$ = 0.120 with 167 reflections, respectively, for which I > $3{\sigma}$(I). In the structure of $Ag_2Ca_5$-A, both $Ag^+$ ions and $Ca^{2+}$ ions lie on two crystal symmetrically independent threefold axis sites on the 6-rings; $2\;Ag^+$ ions are recessed 0.33 ${\;AA}$ from the (111) planes of three O(3) oxygens and 5 $Ca^{2+}$ ions lie on the nearly center of each 6-oxygen planes. In the structure of $Ag_2Cs_{10}-A,\;Cs^+$ ions lie on the 5 different crystallographic sites. 3 $Cs^+$ ions lie at the centers of the 8-rings at sites of D4h symmetry. 6 $Cs^+$ ions lie on the threefold axes of unit cell: $4\;Cs^+$ ions are found deep in the large cavity and 2 $Cs^+$ ions are found in the sodalite cavity. One $Cs^+$ ion is found in the large cavity near a 4-ring.

  • A ring resonator based band-pass filter enabling enhanced sideband suppression was proposed and demonstrated. It is composed of a single-ring based band-pass section combined with a band-rejection section based on two different coupled rings. The sideband region of the transfer characteristics of the first band-pass filter section was selectively suppressed by means of the band-rejection section without causing any excessive insertion loss. As a result, the overall transfer characteristics of the proposed filter was unproved so that its sideband suppression was elevated to allow for sharper roll-off and narrower bandwidth. In this work, a conventional single-ring band-pass filter and a proposed filter including the band-rejection section were designed and fabricated. As for the achieved device performance, with the center frequency at about 4 GHz, the sideband suppression ratio was increased as much as 8 dB and the 3-dB bandwidth was reduced from 98 MHz to 48 MHz by about 51% with no remarkable excessive insertion loss as expected. And the quality factor of the device was increased by about 105%.

  • The present study was conducted to investigate the possible role of the sympathetic nervous system in two-kidney, one clip (2K1C) and deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt hypertension. 2K1C and DOCA- salt hypertension were made in Sprague-Dawley rats. Four weeks after induction of hypertension, systolic blood pressure measured in conscious state was significantly higher in 2K1C $(216{\pm}18\;mmHg)$ and DOCA-salt $(205{\pm}29\;mmHg)$ groups than that in control $(128{\pm}4\;mmHg).$ The third branches (<300 ${\mu}m$ in outer diameter) of the mesenteric artery were isolated and cut into ring segments of $2{\sim}3$ mm in length. Each ring segment was mounted in tissue bath and connected to a force displacement transducer for measurement of isometric tension. The arterial rings were contracted by application of norepinephrine (NE) in a dose-dependent manner. The amplitude of the NE-induced contraction of the vessels was significantly larger in hypertension than in control. The NE-induced contraction was significantly enhanced by neuropeptide Y (NPY) in hypertension. Reciprocally, NPY-elicited vasocontraction was increased by NE in hypertension. These results suggest that the sympathetic nervous system contributes to the development of 2K1C and DOCA-salt hypertension.
