  • The purpose of this descriptive in vitro study were to evaluate the enamel-resin interface of the preventive resin restoration with regard to etching patterns and resin-tag morphology by means of scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows; 1. Three basic etching patterns were appeared simultaneously in a same microscopic section, in concentration between 20-50% phosphoric acid. 2. In 35% orthorhosphoric acid group etched for 60 second, the etching pattern was most prominent and demonstrate closely interdigitated with enamel-resin interface without the evidence of microspace, and the resin tags were longest ranged from 10-15 um in length. 3. This pattern of interface could reduce the incidence of marginal leakage and 2ndary caries formation. 4, The preventive resin restoration could serve as sealing a questionable occlusal surface.

  • It has become topic continuously at MEMS or semiconductor process to form three-dimensional multilayer structure. In this paper, we devised the new polymer pattern method that has multilayer structure. This is method that uses different kind of polymeric material. Specially, polymers used in this study that we propose became all pattern by photolithography, prevented that process increases. Here, polymer that we use used polymer of epoxy order called "SU-8" and polymer of novolak resin called "AZ-1518". The result, "SU-8" was formed pattern to 3.5um thickness, and "AZ-1518" about pattern 3um thickness. Also, It was been 6um thickness at same pattern area.

  • Drying and curing characteristics of PCM resins using the induction heater and short-wave infrared emitter module was studied to develop a compact oven system for the high speed CCL and post-treatment equipment. Drying of the polyester resins using the induction heater and infrared heater showed that the blistering tendency of polyester resin coating increased regardless of additives and colors of resins as the heating rate and/or dry film thickness increased. The blistering of polyester resin coating layer occurred when the heating speed was over than $25^{\circ}C/sec$ for the dry film thickness of $19\~20um$, which is the typical thickness of finish coating in CCL. So did it when the heating speed was over than $40^{\circ}C/sec$ for the dry film thickness over than 10 um. The heating efficiency of paint coated steels by the infrared heating was strongly dependent on the colors of paint coating and generally increased for the dark surface and/or coating. But the faster drying of the PCM resin coatings increased the blistering tendency of coating layer. The blistering limit for the typical finish coating by the infrared heating was estimated as the heating rate slower than $20^{\circ}C/sec$ regardless of colors of PCM resins.

  • The curing of thermoset resin is accompanied with the changes in chemical and physical properties. The cure monitoring techniques can be designed by tracing these property changes. This paper presents the cure monitoring technique with fiber optic sensors to detect the change of refractive index during the polymerization process of engineering epoxy resin. The fiber optic sensor system was developed to measure the reflection coefficient at the interface between the fiber optic and the resin. The correlation between the sensor output and the degree of cure was performed following Lorentz-Lorenz law. The isothermal data from the sensors are compared with the data from differential scanning calorimeter.

  • The purpose of this study was to observe the longevity of amalgam and composite resin fillings in Korea. The number of placement of restorations was 760 amalgams and 415 composite resins. The amalgam restorations inserted because of primary caries were 61 % and replacement of amalgam restorations were 39%, and composite restorations inserted because of primary caries were 62 % and replacement of composite restorations were 38 %. The median longevity of failed amalgam restorations was 3 years and the madian longevity of failed composite restorations was 2 years. The main reason of replacement of amalgam and composite resin restorations was secondary caries.

  • In case of Resin Transfer Molding(RTM) process, 'race-track' effects and non-uniform fiber volume fraction may cause undesirable resin flow pattern and thus result in dry spots, which affect the mechanical properties of the finished parts. In this study, a real time RTM control strategy to prevent these unfavorable effects is proposed. The control strategy consists of two 'stages' depending on the extent the resin front has reached. Through numerical simulations and experiments, the validity of the proposed scheme is demonstrated. The results show that the proposed scheme is effective in reducing the void formation during RTM mold filling.

  • This study was designed to compre the tensile bond strength of 4-META containging denture base resin to Co-Cr alloys after various surface treatments. Especially the surface treatment of sandblasting the mental with aluminum oxide and treating in oxidizing solution composed of 3% aqueous sulfuric acid with 1% potassium manganate were compared. Effect of surface roughness on bonding was measured after sandblasting with 50um, 300um aluminun oxide and polishing with emery pater. Also the effects of wax and wax solvent on bonding were observed. According to the type of polymerization process, heat-cured Meta-Dent resin and autopolymerizing Meta-Fast resin were used. For some specimnens, the tensile bond strength were measured agter three pre-conditions : 1day after bonding, immersed in water at $75^{\circ}C{\pm}3^{\circ}C$ for 4weeks, under normal ambient condition for 4weeks. The following results were obtained from this study : 1. The bond strengths of resins containing 4-META were significantly higher than those of conventional denture base resins(p<0.05). 2. Autopolymerizing Meta-Fast resin had higher bond strength than heat-cured Meta-Dent, resin(p<0.05). 3. The bond strengths of Biosil and Nobilium to 4-META containging resins were not significally different(p>0.05). 4. Stable adhesion can be achieved when mechanically roughen the metal surface by snadblasting with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide than treating in an oxidizing soluing with potassium manganate(p<0.05). 5. Once the metal surface is contaminated with wax, the bond srtength decreased greatly in spite of wax wash with boiling water. But the bond strength recovered significantly with the use of wax solvent 6. Meta-Dent resin had higher bond strength when roughen the metal surface with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide than with $300{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide(p<0.05). In case of Meta-Fast, resin, the use of $300{\mu}m$aluminum oxide was a little advantageous of bonding, but was statistically insignificant(p>0.05).

  • The RFI process can be applied to very thick structures without limiting the resin viscosity. When the proper thickness of the resin film cannot be set, the resin film creates either the non-impregnated section or the excessive resin contents and this leads to the deterioration of mechanical properties. Therefore, this study proposed a method for setting the resin film thickness in the RFI process. The fiber compaction behavior test was proposed by setting the proper resin film thickness and the properties of composites were evaluated through short beam shear strength test, compression test and porosity measurement to verify the proposed method. The evaluation of physical properties of composites was conducted and an appropriate level of resin film thickness was found based on the results of fiber compaction behavior test.

  • The tensile bond strength to dentin was measured for three glass-ionomer cement and composite resin combinations: two light-curing glass-ionomer cements(Vitrebond and XR - Ionomer) and one traditional glass - ionomer cement(Ketac - Bond), two adhesive systems(Scotchbond, and XR - Bonding System), and a corresponding composite resin. The bond strength of this "sandwich" was also compared with that of the same cements used in bulk. Vitredbond showed a significantly higher bond strength in bulk than did the other two cements. Of the sandwiches, the XR - Iomomer and XR - Bond combination showed a bond strength significantly higher than that of the Vitrebond and Scotchbond or Ketac- bond and Scotchbond combination. The fracture of the bond was mainly adhesive for Vitrebond, cohesive for XR - Ionomer when used in bulk and adhesive - cohesive when used in a sandwich, and cohesive for Ketac-Bond.
