A Study on Effective Bandwidth Algorithms for Mass Broadcasting Service with Channel Bonding (채널 결합 기반 대용량 방송서비스를 위한 유효 대역폭 추정 알고리즘에 대한 연구)

  • parallel transmitting system with channel bonding method have been proposed to transmit mass content such as UHD(Ultra High Definition) in HFC(Hybrid Fiber Coaxial) networks. However, this system may lead to channel resource problem because the system needs many channels to transmit mass content. In this paper, we analyze three effective bandwidth approximation algorithms to use the bonding channel efficiently. These algorithms are the effective bandwidth of Gaussian approximation method algorithm proposed by Guerin, the effective bandwidth based on statistics of video frames proposed by Lee and the effective bandwidth based on Gaussian traffic proposed by Nagarajan. We also evaluate compatibility of algorithms to the mass broadcasting service. OPNET simulator is used to evaluate the performance of the algorithms. For accuracy of simulation, we make mass source from real HD broadcasting stream.

Design and Implementation of Platform Providing Adaptive Contents based on IBB Companion Screen Service (IBB 기반 적응적 컴패니언 스크린 컨텐츠 제공 플랫폼 설계 및 구현)

  • Interest in companion screen services and high-definition television broadcasting services are rising along with the advanced of digital broadcasting communication technology. Not only providing good-quality broadcasting services in the main screen, but also creating added values of companion services in the secondary screen are important. In this paper we suggest a platform and a related authoring tool generating adaptive companion screen services according to user contexts. The Platform providing adaptive companion screen services based on user environment is designed and implemented for real service market. Proposed platform organizes a higher quality content service considering both user contexts and demands of service providers in real time, and the related authoring tool enables a novice user interface designer and service director to make adaptive user interfaces quickly and easily. We developed and simulated this platform in accordance with Korean UHD IBB standard which provides interactive service applications.

핫클립 생성 딥러닝 기술을 활용한 방송 시스템 지능화

  • SBS에서는 다년간 지속적으로 핫클립 생성 딥러닝 기술을 방송 시스템에 적용하여 업무 효율을 높이려는 시도를 하였다. 본 기고문에서는 그동안 누적된 SBS의 핫클립 생성 딥러닝 기반 방송 시스템의 기획, 개발, 적용 및 운영 사례에 대한 전반적인 내용을 다루려 한다. 또한 구축 과정에서 발생하는 어려움과 그에 대한 해결책도 공유하려 하였다. 본 기고문에서 소개할 딥러닝 기반 방송 시스템은 하이라이트 구간 예측, UHD 방송 A-ESG 서비스 운영 시스템, 유튜브 채널 운영 시스템, 매쉬업 콘텐츠 제작 지원 시스템 등이다.

CPU Parallel Processing and GPU-accelerated Processing of UHD Video Sequence using HEVC (HEVC를 이용한 UHD 영상의 CPU 병렬처리 및 GPU가속처리)

  • The latest video coding standard HEVC was developed by the joint work of JCT-VC(Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding) from ITU-T VCEG and ISO/IEC MPEG. The HEVC standard reduces the BD-Bitrate of about 50% compared with the H.264/AVC standard. However, using the various methods for obtaining the coding gains has increased complexity problems. The proposed method reduces the complexity of HEVC by using both CPU parallel processing and GPU-accelerated processing. The experiment result for UHD($3840{\times}2144$) video sequences achieves 15fps encoding/decoding performance by applying the proposed method. Sooner or later, we expect that the H/W speedup of data transfer rates between CPU and GPU will result in reducing the encoding/decoding times much more.

  • 기술의 발전에 따라 촬영기기 및 영상장비들의 성능이 비약적으로 향상되고, 본격적인 UHD(Ultra High Definition) 시대가 맞이하여 자연스럽게 소비자들은 더 나은 화질을 요구하고 많은 콘텐츠업체들은 초고화질기술을 적용시킨 작품을 제작하고 있다. 또한, 고품질 콘텐츠에 대한 요구 뿐 만 아니라 데이터 관리(Data Management) 및 색보정(Calibration) 등 이와 관련된 기술의 중요도 증가되고 있다. 따라서 본 논문은 DIT(Digital Imaging Technician) 작업을 차량 내에서 할 수 있도록 특수제작 된 차량을 제작함으로써 현장에서 실시간으로 컬러 그레이딩(Color Grading), 데이터 관리(Data Management) 업무를 수행하여 업무 효율성을 높이고 제작편의성을 증대하고자 한다. 컬러 그레이딩과 데이터 관리라는 요소들이 현재 방송분야보다는 영화와 관련한 분야에서 많이 사용되지만 UHD 시대가 열리는 미래의 방송환경에서는 방송에서도 중요한 요소가 되고 있다.

  • In recent years, as network technology develops, the usage of streaming services by users is increasing. However, the complexity of streaming services is also increasing due to various terminal environments. Even when streaming the same content, it is necessary to re-encode the content according to the type of service. In order to solve the complexity and latency of the streaming service, Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) has standardized the Common Media Application Format (CMAF). In addition, as content transmission using a communication network becomes possible, the Republic of Korea's Ultra High Definition (UHD) broadcasting standard has been enacted as a hybrid standard using a broadcasting network and a communication network. The hybrid service enables various services such as transmitting additional information of contents or providing user-customized contents through a communication network. The Republic of Korea's UHD transmission standard utilizes MPEG Media Transport (MMT), and Mobile MMT is an extension of MMT to provide mobile network-specific functions. This paper proposes a method of inserting CMAF contents suitable for various streaming services using signaling messages of MMT and Mobile MMT. In addition, this paper proposes a model for content insertion system in heterogeneous network environment using broadcasting and communication networks, and verifies the validity of the proposed technology by checking the result of content insertion.

A Dimming Method for the UHD Broadcast LED Lighting (UHD 방송용 LED 조명의 조도제어 방법)

  • This paper proposes a dimming method and a hybrid LED driving circuit suitable for the ultra high definition (UHD) broadcasting. There are major two problems during the dimming control for traditional LED broadcast lightings; one is a flicker that occurred when camera filming to these lightings, and the other is that linear control is impossible for LED luminous intensity under 10% due to LED electrical characteristics. The proposed dimming method and the driving circuit are designed to solve two problems simultaneously. For high level dimming control region from 10 to 100%, the analog control method was applied to the switching regulator constructed by MOSFET operated in the saturation region. For low level dimming control region under 10%, the fast PWM control method with the linear regulator constructed by MOSFET in the ohmic region was used. We verified experimentally that the dimming method is able to control the luminous intensity linearly from 1 to 100% and the flicker disappears on images taken by the charge coupled device (CCD) and the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) cameras. Therefore, the proposed method is suitable for the UHD broadcasting.

  • 본 논문에서는 4K UHD 입력 영상에 대해 각 프레임을 다중 슬라이스로 분할하고, 이를 병렬 처리를 통해 실시간으로 부호화를 수행하는 소프트웨어 기반 HEVC 인코더의 율 제어 방법에 관한 연구이다. 이를 위하여 HEVC 가 지원하는 슬라이스를 적용하여 프레임을 독립적인 다중 슬라이스로 분할하였고, 각각의 슬라이스에 대해서는 기존에 제안된 몇 가지의 율 제어 방법을 개선하여 적용하였다. 본 논문에서는 다중 슬라이스에 각각 독립적으로 적용한 율 제어 방법에 대한 실험 결과를 통해 제안된 율 제어 방법의 안정성을 확인하고, 향후 연구로서 각 슬라이스의 출력 비트율을 예측하고 다중 슬라이스에 효과적으로 할당하는 방법과 이를 통한 주관적 화질을 향상 하는 방법에 대해 논한다.
