Vitrification and Ultrarapid Freezing of Day 2 Mouse Embryos (제 2일째 생쥐 배아의 초자화동결과 초급속동결)

  • Objective: The study was performed to compare the survival rate and the development of day 2 mouse embryos which had freezing procedures done. Methods: We used three different vitrification solutions (EFS, VS14, DPS) and a ultrarapid freezing solution (UFS) for cryopreservation of day 2 mouse embryo. Results: We tested toxicity by exposing embryos to vitirification solutions and a ultrarapid freezing solution. The survival rates are 100%, 97.8%, 95.6% and 100% (EFS, VS14, DPS and UFS). After cultured for 96 hours, hatching rates of each group are 93.5% (no freezing), 95.6% (EFS), 86.4% (VS14), 93.0% (DPS), and 93.0% (UFS). There is no significant differences among groups. The survival rates after thawing cryopreserved embryos are 80.2%, 91.7%, 69.5%, 0% and 91.8% (slow freezing, EFS, VS14, DPS and UFS). Also cultured for 96 hours, the hatching rates are 93.5% (no freezing), 84.1% (slow freezing), 93.9% (EFS), 48.5% (VS14) and 70.1% (UFS). Conclusion: The survival rates of vitrification in EFS solution and ultrarapid freezing are higher than slow freezing (p<0.05). The hatching rate of vitrification in EFS solution cultured for 96 hours is highest, so vitrification of day 2 mouse embryos in EFS solution considered as more effective for cryopreservation.

Exploiting Hardware Events to Reduce Energy Consumption of HPC Systems

  • This paper proposes a novel mechanism called Event-driven Uncore Frequency Scaler (eUFS) to improve the energy efficiency of the HPC systems. UFS exploits the hardware events such as LAPI (Last-level Cache Accesses Per Instructions) and CPI (Clock Cycles Per Instruction) to dynamically adjusts the uncore frequency. Hardware events are collected at a reference time period, and the target uncore frequency is determined using the collected event and the previous uncore frequency. Experiments with the NPB benchmarks demonstrate that the eUFS reduces the energy consumption by 6% on average for class C and D NPB benchmarks while it only increases the execution time by 2% on average.

  • For the development of UFS device test system, M-PHY specifications should be matched with MIPI-standard which is analog signal protocol. In this paper, the implementation methodology and hardware structure for the M-PHY AFE (Analog Front End) Block was suggested that it can be implemented using universal components without ASIC process. The testing procedure has a jitter problem so to solve the problems we using ASIC process, normally but the ASIC process needs a lot of developing cost making the UFS device test system. In is paper, the suggestion was verified by the output signal which was compared to the MIPI-standard on the Prototype-board using universal components. The board was reduced the jitter on the condition of HS-TX and 5.824 Gbps Mode in SerDes (Serialize-deserializer). Finally, the suggestion and developed AFE block have a useful better than ASIC process on developing costs of the industrial UFS device test system.

  • 이 논문에서는 디지털펜과 필기체 인식 기술을 이용한 업무 프로세스 개선 프레임워크인 UFS(Ubiquitos Forms Solution)를 제안하고, 차량점검 서비스를 기반으로 구현 결과를 보인다. 제안한 UFS 프레임워크의 설계 및 구현은 새로운 서비스 개발에 있어 재사용성, 확장성, 이동성, 사용 편이성에 중점을 두었다. UFS 기반 서비스는 디지털펜과 종이를 활용하여 현장 업무 정보를 취득함과 동시에 디지털 사본을 생성하고, 미리 정의된 영역에 대해 필기체 인식을 수행하고, 인식 결과에 대해 최소한의 확인 과정만으로 업무 시스템에 데이터를 자동 입력할 수 있다. 제안한 UFS 프레임워크는 전통적인 종이문서 기반 업무가 많은 헬스케어.건설.교육.공공 분야의 서비스 구현에 적용될 수 있다.

Impact of Milling Method on Quality Parameters of Waxy Sorghum Flour (제분방법에 따른 찰수수 가루의 품질 특성)

  • The objective of this research was to investigate physicochemical properties of waxy sorghum flours by different milling methods (pin mill and ultra fine mill). Four different sorghum flours were used for the experiments ; PWS (pin milled whole sorghum flour), PS (pin milled sorghum flour without bran), UFWS (ultra fine milled whole sorghum flour), UFS (ultra fine milled sorghum flour without bran). The contents of crude ash and total dietary fiber were the highest in PWS. Amylose content of pin milled sorghum flour was higher than that of ultra fine milled flour. The mean particle size of pin milled flours was six times lager than ultra fine milled flours. The L values of UFS and UFWS were higher than those of PS and PWS, whereas a and b values were higher in PWS. The water binding capacity was highest in UFWS, and solubility was higher in PS and UFS. Swelling power of flours was highest in UFS. The damaged starch content was higher in PS and UFS, which means damaged starch of sorghum flours significantly affected by polishing than milling method. The pasting properties were higher in the pin milled flours. Initial pasting temperature of pin milled flour was ranging from 70.5 to $73.1^{\circ}C$, which are higher than ultra fine milled flour ($68.6^{\circ}C$). The contents of total polyphenol were higher in PWS and UFWS than those of PS and UFS, there was no difference between the two milling methods. The results of this study indicate that physicochemical properties of sorghum flour were affected by milling methods as well as bran.

  • In this study, the ultra-fine fibers (UFs) having an alignment were prepared by electrospinning process, using different collectors made from various materials and collecting methods. A spinning solution was prepared by dissolving poly(amide-co-imide) (PAI) in NMP. The UFs were prepared by using various collectors and collecting methods, and the fibrous shapes were observed by SEM. As a result, a sort of materials of collectors and the collecting methods had not influenced on the average diameters of fibers but the forms of them. The just accumulated UFs on the collectors formed net structures, which had no alignment. On the contrary, the continuously collected UFs formed long fibers with alignment. It was found that the water collector played the roles of the fiber haul, temporary collector, moving path of fibers, and caused some friction between fibers and water, attributed to the formation of continuous UFs at a suitable collecting speed.

Active Fault Study of the Yangsan Fault System and Ulsan Fault System, Southeastern Part of the Korean Peninsula

  • Since the key issue that 'the Yangsan fault is seismically an active fault" was raised in 1983, thegeological and geomorphological studies of active fault have been made by many researchers. These studies are mainly focused on the Yangsan fault system(YFS) and Ulsan fault system(UFS) due to many historical earthquakes occurred in this area. There are two different types of active faultings under the ENE-WSW horizontal stress field in the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula. The NNE-trending YFS is the most prominent right-lateral strike-slip fault and has a continuous trace about 200 km long. Some part of this system has been active during the late Quaternary with evidences clearly recognized on both the northern (Yugyeri and Tosung-ri areas) and southern parts (Eonyang to Tongdosa area) of the YFS. in the southern part, the estimated vertical slip rate is about 0.02 - 0.07 mm/yr, and the lateral slip rate may be several times larger than the vertical rate. The most recent event occurred prior to deposition of Holocene alluvium, in the northern part, the fault trend locally changes to almost N-S, dips to the east and has reverse movement. The average vertical slip rate is estimated to be less than 0.1 mm/yr. The most recent event probably occurred after 1314 years BP (AD 536). The NNW-SSE (or N-S) trending UFS is a predominantly reverse fault that built up U-ie eastern mountain and has been active during U-ie late Quaternary. The fault trace is not straight but irregularly undulates along the foot of the mountain on the east. From the disturbed terraces along U-ie fault, the average vertical slip rate on U-iis system is estimated to be about 0.08.13mm/yr. The latest event is not well studied, but seems to have occurred after the last glacial maximum in the Malbang fault and 14,000 years BP in the Kalgok fault of the UFS. However, important issues such as fault segmentation, recurrence interval, age of Quaternary deposits need further studies.

The Removal of Phosphorus by Spent Foundry Sand (폐주물사를 이요한 인제거)

  • The removal of phosphorus was investigated from sewage waste water (SWW) using the used foundry sand (UFS). The optimal pH occurred at pH 2 for adsorption of phosphorus species in batch test. Phosphorus could be recovered with 99.9% from SWW in two hours at pH 2 using 100 g of UFS per liler of SWW. The adsorption of phosphorus species on UFS obeyed Langmuir isotherm, whose equation could be expressed by 1= 0.00059/(1+2.49878). Continuous column test for adsorption showed that breakthrough point appeared In 25 hours on the condition of breakthrough concentration of 8 mg/l

Fuzzy logic model for the prediction of concrete compressive strength by incorporating green foundry sand

  • This work is conducted with the aim of using waste material to reserve the natural resources. The objective is accomplished by conducting experimentation and verify by modeling based on fuzzy logic. In experimentation, concrete is casted by using natural/river sand as fine aggregate and termed as control specimen. Natural sand is conserved by replacing it with used foundry sand (UFS) by an amount of 10, 20 and 30% by weight. Fresh and hardened properties of concrete are investigated at different ages. It is observed that compressive strength and modulus of elasticity reduced with the increase in amount of UFS. Furthermore, concrete compressive strength is predicted by using fuzzy logic model and verified at different replacement ratio and age with experimental observations.
