Ubiquitin D Promotes Progression of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma via NF-Kappa B Signaling

  • Ubiquitin D (UBD) is highly upregulated in many cancers, and plays a pivotal role in the pathophysiological processes of cancers. However, its roles and underlying mechanisms in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) are still unclear. In the present study, we investigated the role of UBD in patients with OSCC. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot were used to measure the expression of UBD in OSCC tissues. Immunohistochemistry assay was used to detect the differential expressions of UBD in 244 OSCC patients and 32 cases of normal oral mucosae. In addition, CCK-8, colony formation, wound healing and Transwell assays were performed to evaluate the effect of UBD on the cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in OSCC. Furthermore, a xenograft tumor model was established to verify the role of UBD on tumor formation in vivo. We found that UBD was upregulated in human OSCC tissues and cell lines and was associated with clinical and pathological features of patients. Moreover, the overexpression of UBD promoted the proliferation, migration and invasion of OSCC cells; however, the knockdown of UBD exerted the opposite effects. In this study, our results also suggested that UBD promoted OSCC progression through NF-κB signaling. Our findings indicated that UBD played a critical role in OSCC and may serve as a prognostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target for OSCC treatment.

An Experimental Study on Application of UBD20 according to EGR Rate in a CRDI Type Diesel Engine (CRDI 방식 디젤기관의 EGR율에 따른 UBD20 적용에 관한 실험 연구)

  • An object of this study is to understand the application characteristics in accordance with changes of EGR rate, applying BD20 reformed by ultrasonic energy irradiation to common-rail diesel engine. BD containing about 10% oxygen has attracted attention due to soaring crude oil prices and environmental pollution. This oxygen decreases soot by promoting combustion, but it also increases NOx. To make up for this problem, an EGR system is applied so that NOx might be decreased. In that case, engine power is lowered and exhaust gas is raised. However, the reformed fuel by ultrasonic energy irradiation is changed physically and chemically, promotes combustion, and thus solves such a problem. As the results of the experimemt, we could identify the optimum EGR rate by investigating the engine performance and the characteristics of exhaust materials in accordance with the EGR rate after ultrasonic energy irradiation to BD20 and applying it to common-rail diesel engine. The optimum EGR rate that can satisfy both engine performance and characteristics of exhaust materials was in the range of 15%.

The Impact of Financial Integration on Economic Growth in Southeast Asia

  • This paper examines the impact of financial integration on economic growth in Southeast Asia over the period 1993-2013. This paper further investigates whether the relationship depends on the level of financial and economic development, government corruption, and macroeconomic policy. These questions raise important issues both from a theoretical and a policy perspective. We employ the generalized methods of moment (GMM) in the dynamic panel estimation framework to analyse several factors, including initial income, initial schooling, financial development, inflation, trade openness, corruption, and financial crisis. The study further analyzes the data using the EGLS model to examine the consistency of the GMM model. We found that financial integration has a significant positive effect on economic growth in Southeast Asia. Our findings suggest that increasing financial integration could improve the productive capacity of the economy, including more investments and efficient allocation of capital, and thus enhancing economic growth in this region. More specifically, the results suggest that the government should work towards eliminating corruption and stabilizing macroeconomics in order to enhance financial integration and economic growth. This paper sheds new insights on a better evaluation of the past and present theorizing on the subject of financial integration and economic growth; especially, in Southeast Asia.

Analysis of Staple Food Price Behaviour: Multivariate BEKK-GARCH Model

  • This study examines the behaviour of staple food price using Multivariate BEKK-GARCH Model. Understanding of staple food price behaviour is important for determining the unpredictability of staple food market and also for policy making. In this paper, we focus on the commodity prices of sugar, rice, soybean and wheat to examine the volatility behaviour of those commodities. The empirical results show that the own-volatility spillover are relatively significant for all food prices. The own-volatility spillover effect for sugar price is relatively large compared with the volatility spillover of other staple food commodities. The findings also highlight that the price volatility of wheat increases during food crisis more than it does when the condition is stable. Also, the own-volatility of rice and wheat in the period of the food crisis is significant and higher compared to the period before food crisis indicates that the past own-volatility effects during food crisis are relatively more difficult to predict because of the uncertainty and high price volatility. Policy recommendations that can be proposed based on the findings are: (1) a better trade agreement in food commodity trade, (2) lower the dependence on wheat importation in Indonesia, and (3) reliable system to minimize food price volatility risks.

An Experiment Study on the Combustion Characteristics with BD20 according to Ultrasonic Energy Irradiation Duration and Injection Delay in a Diesel Engine (초음파 에너지 조사 시간과 분사지연에 따른 BD20의 디젤기관 연소특성에 관한 실험 연구)

  • An object of this study is to understand the correlation between the characteristics of an engine performance and combustion characteristics, applying BD20 fuel reformed by ultrasonic energy irradiation to diesel engines. Before conducting the main experiment, an experiment was performed to determine the optimum injection timimg of reformed BD20 by ultrasonic energy irradiation. To control the duration of the ultrasonic energy irradiation, the capacity of an ultrasonic energy fuel supply system was tested with 550cc and 1100cc chambers. As the result of the analysis of the regular BD20 and reformed BD20 by ultrasonic energy irradiation, the BSFC and the Power of the reformed BD20 was improved 3% and 6%, respectively compared to those of non-irradiated BD20. When the fuel injection timing was delayed by $5^{\circ}$, the engine power was improved by 3%, and the BSFC was improved by 2%. The maximum cylinder pressure of reformed BD20 was improved by a maximum of 6% in comparison to that of regular BD20, and demonstrated a synergistic effect of 3% by delaying the injection timing $5^{\circ}$.
