  • Although integrating design and marketing is critical for successful new product development (NPD), there has been a limited attention to the potential problems that arise during the NPD process and their possible solutions in academic literature. In order to narrow this gap, our study conducted a series of surveys of an interdisciplinary class project between marketing and design students over two year periods at one of U.S. universities. From the survey data collected from the total of 65 students who participated in the collaboration projects, we identified two most common problems: (1) conflict from the functional background, and (2) the conflict from imbalanced decision-making authority between design and marketing. In order to resolve such conflict, we found the two contrasting solutions: (1) facilitating communication and (2) prohibiting communication. Our findings contribute to the formation of a theoretical basis for research on the topic of design-marketing integration.

  • The traditional barcode based medicine logistics system have the problems such as loss, management error, online track, public information due to the hand-operated logistic process. Otherwise, quick response allows that the company observe the requests consistently and design medicine and establish manufacture schedule rapidly so that they could prohibit the product stocked. In this paper, we analyzed how to process medicine circulation logistics and information steps practically and proposed the RFID based medicine logistics system for the quick response in hospital. The proposed method provided the medical history tracing service, the traditional system connection, the efficiency logistic service, and the narcotic specified management service using the medicine logistics information from RFID tag. Accordingly, the satisfaction and the productivity will be improved the efficient medicine logistics by reducing the loss as well as the management error.

  • The rate of hydrolysis of insecticidal 2-chloro-l-(2,4,5-trichlorophenyl)-vinyldimethylphosphate(Gardona) have been investigated in 25${\%}$ aqueous methanol. Studies at varying pH suggest that the hydrolysis of Gardona proceeds through the bimolecular (Ad$_{N-E}$) mechanism involving the transition state and carbanion intermediate as evidenced by solvent effect (m < 0.4, n < 0.7, [m] ${\ll}$ [l](associative SN$_2$ type)), thermodynamic parameters (${\{Delta}S^{\neq}$ = -27∼-32 e.u. & ${\{Delta}H^{\neq}$ = 13∼18 Kcal/mole), hydrolysis rate equation (k = k$_A+_B$ [OH-]), general base catalysis and hydrolysis product analysis, respectively.

  • Several fungal isolates were isolated from diseased monochoria(Monochoria vaginalis, weed of paddy field), which has an resistance to sulfonyl urea(S.U.) herbicide, and were evaluated in the laboratory and greenhouse as potential mycoherbicide. Eight fungi, Alternaria sp., Colletotrichum sp., Curvularia sp., Paenicillium sp and etc. were observed in the isolates. Pathogenicity testing were done on the monochorias in the greenhouse. Monochorias were inoculated with suspensions containing conidia of each isolate at the rates of 1.0 ${\times}$ 10$\^$5/ conidia/ml and 0.1% Tween 80 with hand-gun sprayer. Curvularia sp. and an unidentified fungal isolate caused 90-95% mortality on the monochorias 15∼20 days after inoculation. However the other isolates induced slight symptom of disease on the monochorias. In the early stage of disease development sun-burn appearance was shown at the infected site and the last infected leaves and stems were withered to death. Subsequently the pathogenicity on the rice was evaluated with above two effective isolates. From the test an unidentified isolate showed pathogenicity on the rice but Curvularia sp., named as DBB2003, didn't. Now the mass production and formulation using Curvularia sp. DBB2003 are in progress and the field test will be followed. Combination product with Curvularia sp. DBB2003 and chemical herbicide will be more effect to control the monochoria resisted on S.U. herbicide and need to be further tested.

  • The present experiments were performed to confirm the hypothesis that xanthine oxidase[XOD], as a source and mechanism of oxygen radical production, plays an important role in the genesis of the reperfusion injury of ischemic myocardium. The experimental ischemic-reperfusion injury was induced in isolated, Langendorff preparations of rat hearts by 60 min. Of global ischemia with aortic clamping followed by 20 min. of reperfusion with oxygenated Krebs-Henseleit solution[pH 7.4, 37*C]. The results were as follows: 1. The releases of creatine phosphokinase and a lipid peroxidation product, malondialdehyde[MDA] into the coronary effluent were abruptly increased upon reperfusion of ischemic hearts. The increases of the enzyme and MDA were suppressed significantly in the hearts removed from rats pretreated with allopurinol, a specific XOD inhibitor[20mg/kg, oral, 24 hrs and 2 hrs before study]. This effect of allopurinol was comparable to that of oxygen radical scavengers, superoxide dismutase[5, 000U] and catalase[12, 500 U]. 2. The increased SOD-inhibitable reduction of ferricytochrome C, which was infused to the hearts starting with reperfusion, was significantly suppressed in allopurinol pretreated hearts. 3. Activities of myocardial XOD were compared in the normal control hearts and the ischemic ones. Total enzyme activities were not different in both hearts. However, comparing with the control, the ischemic ones showed higher activity in 0-form and lower activities in D-form and D/O-form. 4. In the ischemic hearts, phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride, a serine protease inhibitor, prevented significantly the increase of 0-form and the decreases of D and D/O-form, while thiol reagents did not affect the changes of the enzyme. 5. The increase of 0-form and the decreases of D and D/0-form were not significant in both calcium-free perfused and pimozide, a calmodulin inhibitor, treated ischemic hearts. 6. The SOD-inhibitable reduction of ferricytochrome C were suppressed by PMSF and pimozide treatment as well as by calcium-free perfusion. It is suggested from these results that in the ischemic rat myocardium, xanthine oxidase is converted to oxygen radical producing 0-form by calcium, calmodulin-dependent proteolysis and plays a contributing role in the genesis of ischemic-reperfusion injury by producing oxygen free radicals.

  • This study evaluated the raw materials for spawning Perenniporia fraxinea, to eliminate urushiol. The growth rates of spawns on grains of millet, brown rice, and wheat were 4.92±0.05, 2.20±0.03, and 1.93±0.03 mm/day, respectively, and the laccase activity was 0.86±0.02, 0.04±0.01, and 0.01±0.00 U/mL, respectively. These observations revealed millet as the most appropriate grain for spawn production in terms of growth rate and enzyme activity. Inoculation of lacquer tree (Rhus verniciflua Stokes) stem bark with millet spawns of P. fraxinea resulted in a reduction of its urushiol contents, up to 86.6% on the third day and up to 98.5% on the seventh day. The optimal period of cultivation to eliminate urushiol was three days with 68% of residual flavonoids and 42% of phenolic components. When compared to the product cultivated from liquid spawn, the millet spawn reduced the cultivation period from 10 days to 3 days for eliminating urushiol.

  • The purpose of this study was to compared with the properties of commercial polyvinyl siloxane impression materials on the Korean product and the other country one. The materials used in this study were 5 hydrophilic polvinyly siloxane impression materials of light body automixing type (Perfect-F, Handae Chemical, Korea; Examix, GC, Japan; Contrast, VOCO, Germany; Express, 3M, U.S.A; Extrude, Kerr, U.S.A.). Specimens of each impression material were fabricated from a mold with dimensions identical to that specified in ASTM D624-91 and were subjected to tensile lode at 500 mm/min until failure for tear strength. Properties of consistency, strain in compression, recovery from deformation, detail reproduction and linear dimensional change were tested according to the testing methods of the ISO specification no.4823(1992). From this study, the follow ing results were obtained 1. The tear strength values were high ET(3.4kN/m), EP(3.4kN/m), PF(3.0kN/m), CT(3.0kN/m), but the lowest was EM(2.2kN/m)(p<0.05). 2. In the consistency, CT(47 mm) had the highest value, followed by PF(42.1 mm), ET(41.2 mm), and EM(39.6 mm), EP(39.2 mm)(p<0.05). It means more flow that the consistency value is high. 3. The strain in compression values were high followed by EM(5.8%), PF(52%), CT(4.6%), ET(4.1%), EP(2.9%)(p<0.05). 4. In the recovery from deformation, ET(99.95%) and PF(99.90%) had the highest value, followed by EP(99.75%), EM(99.74%) without statistical signification, CT(99.64%) had the lowest value(p<0.05). 5. Detail reproduction reappeared to line $20{\mu}m$ all products. 6. The linear dimensional change was a little shrinked all products. and there were not statistical signification (p>0.05). All products were satisfied the ISO specification.

  • An expression vector system was developed for the secretory production of recombinant Bacillus stearothermophilus L1 lipase in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The mature L1 lipase gene was fused to ${\alpha}-amylase$ signal sequence from Aspergillus oryzae for the effective secretion into the culture broth and the expression was controlled under GAL10 (the gene coding UDP-galactose epimerase of S. cerevisiae) promoter. S. cerevisiae harboring the resulting plasmid successfully secreted L1 lipase into the culture broth. To examine an optimum condition for L1 lipase expression in the fed-batch culture, L1 lipase expression was induced at three different growth phases (early, mid, and late-exponential growth phases). Maximum product on of L1 lipase (1,254,000 U/l, corresponding to 0.65/1) was found when the culture was induced at an early growth phase. Secreted recombinant L1 lipase was purified only through CM-Sepharose chromatography, and the purified enzyme showed 1,963 U/mg of specific activity and thermoalkalophilic properties similar to those reported for the enzyme expressed in Escherichia coli.

  • For efficient lincomycin production from Streptomyces lincolnensis L1245, various vegetable oils, natural nitrogen sources, and surfactants were investigated at the pilot-scale level in the flask. Olive oil as the sole carbon source was the most suitable one for producing lincomycin. When 20 g/lof olive oil was used, the lincomycin concentration and lipase activity reached 1.01 g/land 182 U/ml, respectively, after 5 days of culture. Among the various unsaturated fatty acids, when linolenic acid was used, the cell growth and lincomycin production were markedly decreased. On the other hand, when 0.2 g/l of oleic acid was added to the culture broth, the maximum lincomycin concentration was 1.0 g/l, which was about 1.7-fold higher than that obtained without the addition of oleic acid. Among the various natural nitrogen sources, pharmamedia or soybean meal was the most suitable nitrogen source. In particular, in the case of a mixture of 10 g/l of pharmamedia and soybean meal, 1.5 g/l of lincomycin concentration and 220 U/ml of lipase activity were obtained. When Span 180 was used as the surfactant, lincomycin production, lipase activity, and oil consumption increased. The correlation between the consumption rates of oil and lincomycin production in a culture using olive oil as the sole carbon source was also investigated. The lincomycin production depended on the consumption rate of olive oil. Using these results, fed-batch cultures for comparing the use of olive oil and starch as a conventional carbon source were carried out in a 5-1 fermentor. When olive oil was used as the sole carbon source, 34 g/l of olive oil was consumed after 7 days of culture. The maximum lincomycin concentration was 3.0 g/l, which was about 2.0-fold higher than that of starch medium after 7 days of culture. The product yield was 0.09 gig of consumed carbon source, which was about 3.0-fold higher than that of starch medium after 7 days of culture.

  • The efficiency of the two extractions (refluxing extraction and heating-block extraction) was compared to develop the simple analytical method for the determination of capsaicinoids, including capsaicin and dihydrocapsaicin in red pepper powder. For the method development, the parameters, including particle size, extraction time and sample size, were evaluated using ultra high performance liquid chromatography (u-HPLC). It was found that the most effective extraction time of the refluxing extraction was 3 hr. The higher extraction efficiency was obtained with the fine particle of a mild red pepper powder, while the particle size did not affect the extraction efficiency in case of the hot red pepper powder. The higher extraction efficiency was obtained with the small size of sample taken because of the ratio of the large extracting solvent to sample amount. The extraction efficiency of the refluxing method was 3-9% higher than that of the heating-block method, however, the heating-block method could be applied to the determination of capsaicinoids in the red pepper powder for the purpose of quality control of the product.
