  • Purpose: Traumatic head injury is very common in the emergency room. Early diagnosis and treatment can significantly reduce mortality and morbidity. When diagnosis is delayed, however, it could be critical to the patients. In reality, it is difficult to take a brain CT for all patients with head trauma, so this study examined the relationship between type and size of scalp injury and intracranial injury. Methods: This prospective study was conducted from May 2005 to July 2005. The participants were 193 patients who had had a brain CT. Head trauma included obvious external injury or was based on reports of witnesses to the accident. Children under three years of age were also included if there was a witness to the accident. The size of the injury was measured based on the maximum diameter. Results: Out of the total of 193 patients, patients with scalp bleeding totaled 126 (65.2%), and patients without scalp bleeding totaled 67 (34.8%). Among patients with scalp bleeding, patients with intracranial injuries numbered nine, and among patients without scalp bleeding, patients with intracranial injuries numbered 17 (P=0.001). Among patients who showed evidence of scalp swelling with no scalp bleeding, the relationship between the size of the scalp swelling and intracranial injury was statistically significant when the size of the scalp swelling was between 2 cm and 5 cm. Conclusion: Among patients who visit an emergency medical center due to traumatic head injury, patients with no scalp bleeding, but with scalp swelling between 2 cm and 5 cm, should undergone more accurate and careful examination, as well as as a brain CT.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide a reference for stage space planning in modern theaters by analyzing and understanding stage components in terms of spatial composition, purposes, and correlation between them, and collecting various opinions from stage managers an directors. The findings are as follow: the determination of the size of proscenium arch is crucial, and it needs to be considered not only with the genre of the performance and the number of seats, but also with the size of the stage facility. The two-dimensional size of proscenium arch affects the scale of stage area in three-dimensional way; the size of main stage comes from the width of the arch, and the length of set battens comes from the stage width, and so on. The height of the arch affects the elevation of gridiron, and the height of the building itself ultimately. The number and length of the set battens are directly linked to the size of the winch room, and so is the number of the winches to the Mcc panel room. The 1st level gallery supplying power to lighting equipment needs to be wide enough for staffs to work with various equipments effectively and safely. Degree of practical usage of under-stage machinery turned out to be very low. In order to cut unnecessary waste and cost, the characteristics of the theater must get set first, and experts who know how stage works need to get involved in planning stage.

  • As children's apparel industry expands, there are many researches on purchasing and wearing children's clothing and optimal sizes, but researches on purchasing and wearing children's clothing and the appropriateness of sizes comparing average body shape and obese children are still inadequate. Therefore, in this research Late Elementary Schoolgirls ranging in age from 12 to 13 are categorized into the average or the obese body type, and by comparing and analyzing purchasing and wearing children's clothing and the appropriateness of its sizes between these groups, the problems in the size system of children's apparel are realized and the basic information about designing children's clothing for average body shape and non-average body shape(out-size)children are presented. The survey questions were composed of topics about general personal information, the purchasing practice and wearing practice, the appropriateness of its size when wearing children's clothing and the practice of mending apparel according to the satisfaction level of children's clothing sizes. Because subjects are often too big to wear children's clothing, and in the case of obese children the deviation of a body type is amplified, therefore in buying and wearing children's clothing, they demonstrate different forms of purchasing and wearing characteristics than adults. Considering the practice of increasing obesity in children due to westernized eating habits and decreased physical activities, along with developing programs for improving obesity, the development of an optimal size system in response to various body types will become an important challenge.

  • This study focused on the development of effective adsorbent to remove acetylenes for the purification of isoprene. The adsorbents with various pore sizes from $4{\AA}$ to $5{\AA}$ were prepared to investigate the effect of pore size on selective adsorption of acetylene as an impurity. The pore size of zeolite A was adjusted by ion-exchange between Na and Ca ions. The pore size of adsorbents has affected the removal of acetylenes selectively because of the kinetic diameter of acetylenes, such as 2-methyl-1-butyne-3-yen (IPA) and 2-butyne. In a batch adsorption experiment, 5A zeolite with pore size of $5{\AA}$ showed the highest removal capacity of 2-butyne. However, IPA was hardly removed from isoprene by the A-type zeolites. For the adsorption isotherm, modified Langmuir model was well fitted with 2-butyne adsorption. Moreover, the regeneration of adsorbent was carried out to determine optimum method. The adsorbent heated for 12 h at $300^{\circ}C$ was regenerated significantly.

  • Purpose: In recent decades, amputation is still recommended for patients with extensive lower extremity wounds requiring coverage. Although the feet contribute relatively little to total body surface area, they are essential organ for ambulation, and a high mortality rate after amputation has been reported. We report on 10 challenging cases of a mangled foot which was reconstructed using an anterolateral thigh (ALT) free flap, and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of this technique. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on 10 patients who underwent reconstructive surgery on a foot. Patients' charts were reviewed for age, sex, causes, defect size and site, flap size and type, flap type, and complications. Cases with a defect size of > $100cm^2$ were included. Results: Seven of the 10 patients were male, and overall mean age was 38.5 years (range, 22 to 61 years). Mean defect size was $179.6cm^2$ (range, 104 to $330cm^2$), and mean flap size was $193cm^2$ (range, 120 to $408cm^2$). Three cases were reconstructed with a musculocutaneous free flap and seven cases were reconstructed with a fasciocutaneous free flap. There were two occurrences of local wound complication. All ten flaps survived well, however five patients underwent a debulking procedure to reduce flap volume. Conclusion: Reconstruction of a near completely degloved soft tissue defect or a wide defect containing two or more surfaces of extremity with an ALT free flap was performed. The purpose of this case study is to report on free tissue transfer using the ALT flap for salvage of the lower extremity.

  • This study is aimed at giving the basic information for individual farm households to make decisions for optimizing their farm sizes and for the government to implement farm size optimization policies through the identification of combinations among rice production factors in plain areas like Cheolwon district and the suggestion of the optimal farm sizes of individual farmers based on the scale of economy calculated. The data of agricultural production costs of 50 rice farmers in the plain area which is located in Dongsong-eup Cholwon district, Kangwon province were used in the analysis. The 'translog' cost function among various methods which is a flexible function type was adopted to calculate the scale of economy in rice production. Seemingly unrelated regression(SUR) method was used in forecasting functions and processing other statistics by SHAZAM which is one of the computer aid program for quantitative econometric analysis. In conclusion, the long-run average cost(LAC) curve showed 'U-shape' which was different from 'L-type' one which was shown in the previous studies by others. The lowest point of the LAC was 9.764ha and the concerned production cost amounted to 633 Won/kg. Based on these results, it have to be suggested that around 10 ha of paddy is the target size for policy assistances to save costs under the present level of farming practices and technology. The above results show that the rice production costs could be saved up to 10ha in Cheolwon plain area which is a typical paddy field. However, land use, land condition, land ownership and manager's ability which may affect scale of economy should be considered. Furthermore, reasonable management will have to be realized by means of labor saving technology and cost saving management skill like enlargement of farm size of rice.

  • Today, due to the large amount of data duplication caused by the increase in user data, various deduplication studies have been conducted. However, research on personal storage is relatively poor. Personal storage, unlike high-performance computers, needs to perform deduplication while reducing CPU and memory resource usage. In this paper, we propose an adaptive algorithm that selectively applies fixed size chunking (FSC) and whole file chunking (WFH) according to the file type and size in order to maintain the deduplication rate and reduce the load in personal storage. We propose an algorithm for minimization. The experimental results show that the proposed file system has more than 1.3 times slower at first write operation but less than 3 times reducing in memory usage compare to LessFS and it is 2.5 times faster at rewrite operation.

  • The worldwide focus on reducing the emissions, fuel and lubricant consumption in T-GDI engines is leading engineers to consider the crankcase ventilation and oil mist separation system as an important means of control. In today's passenger cars, the oil mist separation systems mainly use the inertia effect (e.g. labyrinth, cyclone etc.). Therefore, this study has investigated high efficiency cylinder head-integrated oil-mist separator by using a compact multi-impactor type oil mist separator system to ensure adequate oil mist separation performance. For this purpose, engine dynamometer testing with oil particle efficiency measurement equipment and 3D two-phase flow simulation have been performed for various engine operating conditions. Tests with an actual engine on a dynamometer showed oil aerosol particle size distributions varied depending on operating conditions. For instance, high rpm and load increases bot only blow-by gases but the amount of small size oil droplets. Submicron-sized particles (less than 0.5 ㎛) were also observed. It is also found that the impactor type separator is able to separate nearly no droplets of diameter lower than 3 ㎛. CFD results showed that the complex aerodynamics processes that lead to strong impingement and break-up can strip out large droplets and generate more small size droplets.

  • The effect of sand grain size on the various properties of mold is not only basic but important interest which we have to deal with. And the relation among the various properties of mold (strength, permeability, flowability, compactability, hardness, deformation, toughness etc.) is very complicated and inaccurate, so we can delineate the behavior of mixture (sand+water+bentonite) with experience only. Within recent years a so-called rigid-water theory has been accepted as a means of advancing logical explanations for the research aimed at delineating sand-clay-water relationships. By changing grain size or mesh no. of grain, specimens have been subjected to green compressive strength, permeability, deformation, flowability, compactablity, toughness at room temperature. Under constant mulling energy and ratio of water/bentonite, the results obtained were as follows: 1. With decreasing grain size green compressive strength of the specimen increased. 2. With decreasing grain size permeability decreased. 3. With decreasing grain size flowability and bulk density decreased but compactability increased. 4. With decreasing grain size deformation decreased but toughness increased. 5. At 60 mesh no., the properties of specimen are conspicuously changed. The reason is that the total surface area of sand grain which affects the type of bonding between sand grains is more changed at 60 mesh number.

  • Lipid emulsions with saturated triacylglycerols (TAGs) with 4 to 10 carbons in each acyl chain were prepared to study how the oil component alters the stability of the lipid emul-sions when phosphatidylcholines were used as emulsifiers. The average droplet size of the emul-sions became smaller as the chain length of the TAG increased. For a given oil emulsion with smaller droplets was formed with an emulsifier having higher HLB value. The influence of HLB values on the droplet size was biggest for the tributyrin (C4) emulsion. For the tricaprylin(C8) emulsions, droplet size was identical at given emulsifier concentrations regardless of HLB values. The HLB value and the concentration of the emulsifiers also affect the droplet size of the emul-sions. The emulsions with smaller average droplet size were more stable than with bigger size for 20 days. The oil and water (o/w) interfacial tension in inversely proportional to the initial droplet size of the emulsion.
