Modelling of bonded and unbonded post-tensioned concrete flat slabs under flexural and thermal loading

  • During their life span, post-tensioned concrete structures may be exposed to thermal loads. Therefore, there has been a growing interest in research on the advanced analysis and design of post-tensioned concrete slabs subjected to thermal loads. This paper investigates the structural behaviour of post-tensioned one-way spanning concrete slabs. A nonlinear finite element model for the analysis of post- tensioned unbonded and bonded concrete slabs at elevated temperatures was developed. The interface between the tendon and surrounding concrete was also modelled, allowing the tendon to retain its profile shape during the deformation of the slab. The load-deflection behaviour, load-force behaviour in the tendon, and the failure modes are presented. The numerical analysis was conducted by the finite element ANSYS software and was carried out on two different one-way concrete slabs chosen from literature. A parametric study was conducted to investigate the effect of several selected parameters on the overall behavior of post-tensioned one-way concrete slab. These parameters include the effect of tendon bonding, the effect of thermal loading and the effect of tendon profile. Comparison between uniform thermal loading and nonuniform thermal loading showed that restrained post tensioned slab with bottom surface hotter has smaller failure load capacity.

Effect of Kegel Exercise on Vital Capacity According to the Position: A Preliminary Study

  • Purpose: This study examined the immediate effect of Kegel exercise on the vital capacity according to the position. Methods: Seventeen subjects participated in the study (male=7, female=10). The subjects performed Kegel exercise in two positions: sitting and hooklying. The order of exercise was conducted in a random order selected by the subjects to exclude the learning effect. The maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) was measured using a spirometer. The vital capacity was measured according to the manual in the sitting position before the experiment. After each exercise, the vital capacity was also measured in the same way. One way repeated measures analysis of the variance (ANOVA) was used to compare the vital capacity according to the position, and a Bonferroni test was used for post hoc analysis. Results: Significant differences in vital capacity were observed after exercise than before exercise (p<0.05). Post-hoc analysis, however, revealed no difference in vital capacity according to the position (p>0.05). Conclusion: This study was a preliminary study to determine the vital capacity according to the Kegel exercise and two positions. Nevertheless, further study with several revisions of the number of subjects, duration, and time for intervention will be needed.

대학교 신입생들에서 지각된 스트레스 및 취약성 변인과 신체화 경향의 관계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Relationship among Perceived Stress, Vulnerability Variables, and Somatization Tendency in University Entrants)

  • For the purpose of examining the relationship between perceived stress, vulnerability variables, and somatization tendency, the self-report questionnaires of perceived stress, styles of stress coping(passive and active copings), self-perception, gender, and somatization tendency were administered to university entrants(n=2,024). The results were as follows: 1) Perceived stress, styles of stress coping(passive and active copings), self-perception, and gender accounted for 15.56% of the total variance in somatization tendency. As a result of comparing the relative contributions of all predictor variables to somatization tendency, the highest was perceived stress, and the next in order were passive coping style, self-perception, and gender, whereas direct effect of active coping style was not significant. 2) The two-way and three-way interaction effects of perceived stress X vulnerability variables were not significant. 3) The two-way and three-way interaction effects of gender X psychosocial variables were not significant. To conclude, perceived stress and vulnerability variables independently contribute to somatization tendency in university entrants, and furthermore it is suggested that vulnerability variables as well as perceived stress must be considered to account for somatization tendency.

Analytical framework for natural frequency shift of monopile-based wind turbines under two-way cyclic loads in sand

  • The natural frequency shift under cyclic environmental loads is a key issue in the design of monopile-based offshore wind power turbines because of their dynamic sensitivity. Existing evidence reveals that the natural frequency shift of the turbine system in sand is related to the varying foundation stiffness, which is caused by soil deformation around the monopile under cyclic loads. Therefore, it is an urgent need to investigate the effect of soil deformation on the system frequency. In the present paper, three generalized geometric models that can describe soil deformation under two-way cyclic loads are proposed. On this basis, the cycling-induced changes in soil parameters around the monopile are quantified. A theoretical approach considering three-spring foundation stiffness is employed to calculate the natural frequency during cycling. Further, a parametric study is conducted to describe and evaluate the frequency shift characteristics of the system under different conditions of sand relative density, pile slenderness ratio and pile-soil relative stiffness. The results indicate that the frequency shift trends are mainly affected by the pile-soil relative stiffness. Following the relevant conclusions, a design optimization is proposed to avoid resonance of the monopile-based wind turbines during their service life.

Strength and behaviour of reinforced SCC wall panels in one-way action

  • A total of 28 wall panels were cast and tested under uniformly distributed axial load in one-way in-plane action to study the effect of slenderness ratio (SR) and aspect ratio (AR) on the ultimate load. Two concrete formulations, normal concrete (NC) and self compacting concrete (SCC), were used for the casting of wall panels. Out of 28 wall panels, 12 were made of NC and the remaining 16 panels were of SCC. All the 12 NC panels and 12 out of 16 SCC panels were used to study the influence of SR and the remaining 4 SCC panels were tested to study the effect of AR on the ultimate load. A brief review of studies available in literature on the strength and behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) wall panels is presented. Load-deformation response was recorded and analyzed. The ultimate load of SCC wall panels decreases non-linearly with the increase in SR and decreases linearly with increasing values of AR. Based on this study a method is proposed to predict the ultimate load of reinforced SCC wall panels. The modified method includes the effect of SR, AR and concrete strength.

대구의 여름철 도로 열 환경과 클린로드 시스템의 효과 조사를 위한 관측연구 (Observational Study to Investigate Thermal Environment and Effect of Clean- Road System over a Broad Way of Daegu in Summer)

  • To investigate thermal environment and effect of clean-road system over a broad way, we conducted the filed meteorological observation during 12~13 August 2014. The clean-road system was employed over a part of the broad way of Dalgubul(Dalgubul-Daero) by Daegu Metropolitan city in 2011. The clean-road system in general is operated two times(4 am, 2 pm) during summertime. In case of scorching alert, the system is operated 3 times a day(4 am, 2 pm and 4 pm). To evaluate the present thermal condition and the improvement effects due to the system, we analyzed the time variation of discomfort index and WBGT(wet-bulb and globe temperature). WBGT was more than 25 during 8 a.m. ~ 9 p.m. And discomfort index was more than 75 during 8 a.m. ~ 11 p.m. The thermal improvement effect of the clean-road system was restrictive during daytime.

헤어 길이와 헤어 컬러가 남성의 패션 이미지에 미치는 상호작용효과 (Interaction Effects of Two Salient Cues on Males Fashion Images: Hair Lengths & Hair Colors)

  • Purposes of the study were to find out the joint effects of two salient appearance cues-hair colors and hair lengths on males fashion images, using 729 university students in Daejon city and a Chungnam province. The study was a quasi experiment; the dependent variables were hair lengths(4 levels) and hair colors(4 levels)and the dependent variable was a set of semantic different of scales which was consisted of 40 hi-polar adjectives, The data were analyzed by a factor analysis, 3-way ANOVA, and the results were as follows. Hair lengths effected on the image of five dimensions, salient, social, potency, evaluate and dynamics while hair colors effected on salients, social and potency dimensions. The most significant interaction effect between hair color and lengths were existed on the salient image: For the longer haired males, the color effects became less evident then normal to shorten haired males and it can be concluded that when two salient cues were combined one cue's effect became discounted.

고속도로 연계성을 반영한 고속철도 수단선택모형 개발 및 적용 (Development of Mode Choice Model and Applications Considering Connectivity of Express Way)

  • 지금까지 고속철도와 고속도로의 계획 및 건설은 시설 간 연계 환승에 대한 고려 없이 개별시설 확충 위주로 진행되었으며. 이로 인해 시설의 효율적 투자 및 활용은 이루어지지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 고속도로 연계성 향상으로 고속철도 수단선택행태에 미치는 영향을 다항로짓모형(Multinominal Logit Model)과 이항로짓모형(Binary Logit Model)을 활용하여 분석하였다. 모형개발을 위한 설문조사는 고속철도, 고속버스, 장거리 승용차 이용자를 대상으로 통행실태조사와 진술선호조사를 수행하였으며, 이를 통해 고속철도와 연계 환승수단에 대한 수단분담모형을 구축하였다. 수단선택모형을 통하여 고속도로와 고속철도가 연계 시 동탄역을 대상으로 사례분석을 수행한 결과 서울~부산 간 약 2시간의 통행시간이 단축되었으며, 이로 인해 약 30%의 수요증가 효과가 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구를 통하여 고속철도와 고속도로의 계획 시 연계 환승을 고려하여 건설 및 운영이 이루어질 경우, 고속철도의 이동성 기능과 고속도로의 접근성 기능을 결합함으로써 수단간 효율성을 극대화할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

A study on the action mechanism of internal pressures in straight-cone steel cooling tower under two-way coupling between wind and rain

  • The straight-cone steel cooling tower is a novel type of structure, which has a distinct aerodynamic distribution on the internal surface of the tower cylinder compared with conventional hyperbolic concrete cooling towers. Especially in the extreme weather conditions of strong wind and heavy rain, heavy rain also has a direct impact on aerodynamic force on the internal surface and changes the turbulence effect of pulsating wind, but existing studies mainly focus on the impact effect brought by wind-driven rain to structure surface. In addition, for the indirect air cooled cooling tower, different additional ventilation rate of shutters produces a considerable interference to air movement inside the tower and also to the action mechanism of loads. To solve the problem, a straight-cone steel cooling towerstanding 189 m high and currently being constructed is taken as the research object in this study. The algorithm for two-way coupling between wind and rain is adopted. Simulation of wind field and raindrops is performed with continuous phase and discrete phase models, respectively, under the general principles of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Firstly, the rule of influence of 9 combinations of wind sped and rainfall intensity on flow field mechanism, the volume of wind-driven rain, additional action force of raindrops and equivalent internal pressure coefficient of the tower cylinder is analyzed. On this basis, the internal pressures of the cooling tower under the most unfavorable working condition are compared between four ventilation rates of shutters (0%, 15%, 30% and 100%). The results show that the 3D effect of equivalent internal pressure coefficient is the most significant when considering two-way coupling between wind and rain. Additional load imposed by raindrops on the internal surface of the tower accounts for an extremely small proportion of total wind load, the maximum being only 0.245%. This occurs under the combination of 20 m/s wind velocity and 200 mm/h rainfall intensity. Ventilation rate of shutters not only changes the air movement inside the tower, but also affects the accumulated amount and distribution of raindrops on the internal surface.

다단계 보안 데이터베이스에서 동시성 제어를 위한 양방향 기부 잠금 규약 (A Two-way Donation Locking Protocol for Concurrency Control in Multilevel Secure Database)

  • 본 논문에서는 다단계 보안 데이터베이스에서 동시성 정도를 향상시키고, 보안 요구사항을 만족하는 향상된 트랜잭션 스케쥴링 프로토콜을 제안한다. 전통적인 직렬성 표기를 가진 두단계 잠금 기법을 다단계 보안 데이터베이스에 적용했다. 이타적 잠금기법은 기부라는 사상을 사용하여 트랜잭션이 더 잇아 그 객체를 요구하지 않을 때 다른 트랜잭션들이 그 객체를 로크할 수 있도록 미리 객체에 대한 로크를 해제함으로써 트랜잭션들의 대기시간을 줄이기 위해서 제안된 것이다. 확장형 이타적 잠금기법은 처음에 기부되지 않은 객체까지도 처리하는 좀 더 완화된 기법이다. 본 논문에서는 다단계 보안 데이터베이스에서 단기 트랜잭션의 기아현상을 최소화하도록 하였다. 본 프로토콜은 확장형 잠금 기법(XAL/MLS)을 기초로 하였으나, 새로운 방법인 다단계 보안 데이터베이스를 위한 양방향 기부 잠금 규약(2DL/MLS)으로 보안 여구와 동시성 제어를 동시에 만족한다. 제안된 프로토콜의 효율성은 실험의 결과로 확인되었다.
