  • When we use R-Tree,a spatial index, to find objects matches some predicate, it often leads to an incorrect result of perform filtering step only with MBR. And , each candidates need to be inspected to conform if it really satisfies with given query, so called, 'refinement step'. In refinement step. we should perform disk I/O and expansive spatial operations which is the cause of increasing retrieval costs. Therefore, to minimize the number of candidate after filtering step, two-phase filtering methods were studied, but there was many problems such as inefficiency of filtering, maintenance of additional informations and reconstruction of data resulted from the loss of original information. So , in this paper, I propose an Extended R-Tree which provides ability to retrieve spatial objects only with some simple logical operations using Grid Table, truth table strong the information about the existence of spatial objects, in second filtering step. Consequently , this Extended R-Tree using Grid Filter has low cost of operation for filtering because of efficient second filtering step, and better filtering efficiency caused by high quality of approximation.

  • The Wiener-type nonlinear model where a static nonlinear block follows a dynamic linear block is widely used to describe the dynamics of chemical processes. A long process excitation step is typically needed to identify this Wiener-type nonlinear model with two blocks. In order to cope with this disadvantage, an identification method for the Wiener-type nonlinear model that uses only a single-step response is proposed here. The proposed method estimates the response of the dynamic linear sub-block from the initial part of the step response, and then the static nonlinear sub-block is identified. Because the only single-step response is used to identify the Wiener-type nonlinear model, there is great benefit in time and cost for obtaining process response. The performance of the proposed identification method with the single-step response is verified through a representative Wiener-type nonlinear process, a pH titration process, and a liquid level system.

  • To prepare mesophase pitches through low energy process, pyrolysis fuel oil with $AlCl_3$ has been modified using two-step heat treatment which is heat-treated at $330^{\circ}C$ for 3~5 h after pre-treatment at $250^{\circ}C$. The result of polarized optical microscope observation, mesophase is not observed in pitches carried out only pre-heat treatment. While mesophase content is significantly increased from 9% to 100% according to increasing secondary heat treatment time from 3 h to 5 h. Synthesizing of the mesophase pitch at low temperature of $330^{\circ}C$ is attributed to decrease of viscosity of the pitches carried out first heat treatment with $AlCl_3$. The result of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopic analysis, it is expected that aromatization of aliphatic compounds is dominant at early secondary heat treatment, on the other hand, polycondensation reaction becomes dominant as secondary heat treatment time increases. Aromaticity and stacking height of the pitches secondary heat treated for 5 hours are more increased about 25% and 107%, respectively, than that of pitches carried out only first heat treatment.

  • The backward differentiation formula (BDF) method is applied to a three-dimensional reactor kinetics calculation for efficient yet accurate transient analysis with adaptive time step control. The coarse mesh finite difference (CMFD) formulation is used for an efficient implementation of the BDF method that does not require excessive memory to store old information from previous time steps. An iterative scheme to update the nodal coupling coefficients through higher order local nodal solutions is established in order to make it possible to store only node average fluxes of the previous five time points. An adaptive time step control method is derived using two order solutions, the fifth and the fourth order BDF solutions, which provide an estimate of the solution error at the current time point. The performance of the BDF- and CMFD-based spatial kinetics calculation and the adaptive time step control scheme is examined with the NEACRP control rod ejection and rod withdrawal benchmark problems. The accuracy is first assessed by comparing the BDF-based results with those of the Crank-Nicholson method with an exponential transform. The effectiveness of the adaptive time step control is then assessed in terms of the possible computing time reduction in producing sufficiently accurate solutions that meet the desired solution fidelity.

  • Compared to the constant modulus algorithm (CMA), the modified CMA (MCMA) is easy not only to improve the steady-state performance but also to be expanded to higher-order constellations by using fewer moduli with evenly spaced. In this paper, it is shown that the MCMA is sufficient to achieve satisfactory steady-state performance by applying a variable step-size to the MCMA without switching to an hard decision-directed algorithm. Two new methods varying the step-size are proposed, and the performance improvement of the MCMA with the new methods of variable step-size is presented as compared to the CMA and the fixed step-size MCMA through computer simulations.

  • In this paper, we propose a post-processing method to reduce the blocking artifacts. We perform the post-processing only in the spatial domain so that it is readily applicable to real-time video decoder. Many approaches proposed so far for deblocking deal with only The luminance signal. but here we propose processing the chrominance signals as well since the low bit rare application where the blocking artifacts are most problematic suffers significantly from the color misalignment caused by blocking artifacts occurring to chrominance data as well. The proposed method is composed of low pass filtering in two steps considering the edge direction. The first step is the IIR low pass filtering in the diagonal direction, and the second step is another IIR low pass filtering in horizontal and vertical directions.

  • Since speech acts implies speakers' intentions, it is essential to determine speakers' speech acts if we want to implement an intelligent dialogue system. We propose a two-step model for effectively determining speakers' speech acts. In the first step, the proposed model returns speech act candidates by using a neural network model based on machine learning and a predictivity model based on statistics, respectively. In the second step, using speech act candidates which are returned by the predictivity model, the proposed model filters out speech act candidates which are returned by the neural network model. Then, the proposed model selects a speech act with maximum output value among the unremoved speech act candidates. In the experiment on a schedule management domain, the proposed two-step modeling method showed better precisions than the previous methods only using a machine learning model or a probability model.

  • This paper proposes a control method for three-phase voltage-source PWM converters using only a single current sensor in the DC link. A predictive current controller for the voltage-source PWM converter is used so that all phase currents can be reconstructed in a switching period although one or two of active vectors are applied only for a short time. Compensation of the 2 step delays is also included. In this paper single sensor current control using predictive state observer will be discussed, and investigated experimentally.
