This paper deals with the problem of detection of induction motor incipient faults. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approach is applied to detect two types of incipient faults (1). Interturn insulation and (2) Bearing wear faults in single-phase induction motor. The experimental data for five measurable parameters (motor intake current, rotor speed, winding temperature, bearing temperature and the noise) is generated in the laboratory on specially designed single-phase induction motor. Initially, the performance is tested with two inputs i.e. motor intake current and rotor speed, later the remaining three input parameters (winding temperature, bearing temperature and the noise) were added sequentially. Depending upon input parameters, the four ANN based fault detectors are developed. The training and testing results of these detectors are illustrated. It is found that the fault detection accuracy is improved with the addition of input parameters.
This paper presents a new two-phase linear hybrid stepping motors (LHSM), which has two windings per phase and one of them shares the other phase winding. The proposed motor shows a unique ability to deliver low cogging force without any particular complex control scheme and additional power electronics hardware in micro stepping control. An analytical and experimental comparison between conventional and proposed LHSM is evaluated to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed design.

In this paper the space voltage vector pulsewidth modulation(SVPWM) technique for two-phase inverter is proposed. The two-phase SVPWM technique is applicable to two-phase induction motor drives. The two-phase inverter using two-phase SVPWM technique cannot generate zero voltage vectors, but four space vectors. A reference voltage vector in the square locus is realized by adjusting four space vectors. The switching sequence "two-phase symmetrical modulation" used in two-phase SVPWM is proposed. Practical verification of theoretical predictions is presented to conform the capabilities of the new technique.technique.

In this paper, a uniform speed controller for an ultrasonic rotary motor is developed using the phase-difference method. The phase difference method uses traveling waves to drive the ultrasonic motor. The traveling waves are obtained by adding two standing waves that have a different phase to each other. A compact phase-difference driver system is designed and integrated by combining VCO(Voltage Controlled Oscillator) and phase shifter. Theoretically the relationship between the phase difference in time and the rotational speed of the ultrasonic motor is sine function, which is verified by experiments. Then a series of experiments under various loading conditions are conducted to characterize the motor's performance that is the relationship between the speed and torque. Proportional-integral control is adopted for the uniform speed control. The proportional control unit calculates the compensating phase-difference using the rotating speed which is measured by an encoder and fed back. Integral control is used to eliminate steady-state errors. Differential control for reducing overshoot is not used since the response of ultrasonic motor is prompt due to its low inertia and friction-driving characteristics. The developed controller demonstrates reasonable performance overcoming disturbing torque and the changes in material properties due to continuous usage.

A Low cost and variable speed brushless motor drive system with single switch per phase is presented. The motor drive is realized with a novel two-phase flux-reversal-free switched reluctance motor and a split AC two switch converter. The strategy of the controller and the converter for its realization are described. Comparisons between a split AC converter, asymmetric converter, split DC converter, single controllable switch converter, and N+1 converter are performed for its device rating, cost, switching losses and conduction losses, and converter efficiency. The split AC converter is analyzed and simulated to verify the characteristics of the converter circuitry and control feasibility and the simulation results are presented. The efficiency with various loads is numerically estimated and experimentally compared from viewpoint of subsystem and system in details. The focus of this paper is to compare the presented motor drive system to the asymmetric converter system throughout experiments and demonstrate single switch per phase converter having comparable efficiency as the asymmetric converter system.
In case while modulation index (M) is more than 0.7, the spectrum of motor voltage and current of a conventional two-phase SRP scheme are not reduced considerably. To solve the problems of a conventional two-phase SRP, this paper proposes a two-phase SRP(DZSRP) with double zero vector mode which zero vector is selected as V(111) in case of M $\geq$ 0.7, and zero vector is selected as V(000) if M < 0.7. For the validity of the proposed method, a 16 bit micro-controller C167 was used and the experiments were conducted with the 1.5kw induction motor under load condition. And the experimental results show that the switching noise spectrum for all the M are spread to a wide band area. Also the switching noise and conducted noise are discussed.
This paper describes the vector control of a single-phase induction motor drive system to improve the dynamic performance for low power applications. Using auxiliary winding which is only utilized for starting, the single-phase induction motor is regarded as the unsymmetrical two-phase motor. This paper shows that the vector control of single-phase induction motor with new method achieves the high performance of the motor. The results of the new method are illustrated by the simulations.

Two-phase simultaneous excitation mode of the switched reluctance motor (SRM) has been shown to effectively improve the average torque output compared with traditional single-phase excitation mode. But the torque ripple of the two-phase excitation SRM with traditional winding distribution increases because of the inconsistent electromagnetic field. To reduce the torque ripple, a two-phase excitation 8/6 SRM with novel winding distribution is proposed in this paper. The static torques generated by various magnetic circuits are analyzed and obtained to verify the torque increase. Then the electromagnetic characteristics of the proposed SRM are investigated by the numerical calculation method in detail, including flux linkage, inductance, and torque. Finally, an experiment for measuring the SRM static electromagnetic characteristics and dynamic performance is designed and performed based on the novel mode, and the comparing results show that the proposed two-phase SRM is effective.
A new fault-tolerant control topology for open-loop motor-drive systems with Delta-connected stator windings is introduced in this paper. This new control topology enables the operation of a three-phase induction machine as a two-phase machine fed by a three-phase inverter upon a failure in one of the motor phases. This topology utilizes the "open-Delta" configuration to independently control the current in each of the two remaining healthy phases. This new control technique leads to the alleviation of any torque pulsations resulting from the consequences of the asymmetrical conditions associated with this class of faults.
A simple hybrid circuit to control the two-phase AC motor of the nut-runners which employ the tightening torque control system is described in this paper. The circuit has emphasis on the low-cost implementation. The circuit constitutes of the V/F converter using a timer IC, the pulse width modulator using the fastening torque signal and the two-phase logic sequencer.
