A new computer simulation method for film growth, the kinetic Monte Carlo simulation in combination with the results obtained from molecular dynamics simulation for the transient process induced by deposited atoms, was developed. The behavior of energetic atom in Au/Au(100) thin film deposition was investigated by the method. The atomistic mechanism of energetic atom deposition that led to the smoothness enhancement and the relationship between the role of transient process and film growth mechanism were discussed. We found that energetic atoms cannot affect the film growth mode in layer-by-layer at high temperature. However, at temperature of film growth in 3-dimensional mode and in quasi-two-dimensional mode, energetic atoms can enhance the smoothness of film surface. The enhancement of smoothness is caused by the transient mobility of energetic atoms and the suppression for the formation of 3-dimensional islands.
The paper focuses on the integration of a non-linear one-dimensional model of Synthetic Jet (SJ) actuator in a well-assessed numerical simulation method for turbulent compressible flows. The computational approach is intended to the implementation of a numerical tool suited for flow control simulations with affordable CPU resources. A strong compromise is sought between the use of boundary conditions or zero-dimensional models and the full simulation of the actuator cavity, in view of long-term simulation with multiple synthetic jet actuators. The model is integrated in a multi-domain numerical procedure where the controlled flow field is simulated by a standard CFD method for compressible RANS equations, while flow inside the actuator is reduced to a one-dimensional duct flow with a moving piston. The non-linear matching between the two systems, which ensures conservation of the mass, momentum and energy is explained. The numerical method is successfully tested against three typical test cases: the jet in quiescent air, the SJ in cross flow and the flow control on the NACA0015 airfoil.

One-dimensional (1D) nanowires have been received much attention due to their potential for applications in various field. Recently some logic applications fabricated on various nanowires, such as ZnO, CdS, Si, are reported. These logic circuits, which consist of two- or three field effect transistors(FETs), are basic components of computation machine such as central process unit (CPU). FETs fabricated on nanowire generally have surrounded shapes of gate structure, which improve the device performance. Highly integrated circuits can also be achieved by fabricating on nano-scaled nanowires. But the numerical and SPICE simulation about the logic circuitry have never been reported and analyses of detailed parameters related to performance, such as channel doping, gate shapes, souce/drain contact and etc., were strongly needed. In our study, NAND and NOT logic circuits were simulated and characterized using 2- and 3-dimensional numerical simulation (SILVACO ATLAS) and built-in spice module(mixed mode).
A quasi two-dimensional model for numerical simulation of gas discharge is presented, based on the finite-element flux-corrected transport method. A one-dimensional continuity convection-diffusion equation coupled Poisson's equation is solved to calculate the charge density variation and the electric field is evaluated by the classical disk method. Results calculated for various benchmark problems verify the accuracy of the proposed model and illustrate its performance. This model has been applied to a streamer simulation, and the results are shown to agree well with previously published results.
The unsteady supersonic flow over two- and three-Dimensional cavities has been analyzed by the integration of unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) with the k - w turbulence model. The unsteady flow is characterized by the periodicity due to the mutual relation between the shear layer and the internal flow in cavities. Numerical method is upwind TVD scheme based on the flux vector split with the Van Leer limiters, and time accuracy is used explicit 4th stage Runge-Kutta scheme. Cavity flows are Comparison of two- and three-dimensional. The cavity has a L/D ratio of 3 for two-dimensional case. and same L/D and W/D ratio is 1 for three-dimensional case. The Mach and Reynolds numbers are held constant at 1.5 and 450000 respectively. For the three-dimensional case, the flow field is observed to oscillate in the 'shear layer mode' with a feedback mechanism that follow Rossiter's formula. On the other hand, the self-sustained oscillating flow transitions to a 'wake mode' for the two-dimensional simulation, with more violent fluctuations inside the cavity.

In recent years, hydrologists have been interested in the radial spectrum and its estimation in two dimensional storm field to construct simulation model of the rainfall. This paper deals with the problem of transformation from the spectrum or isotropic covariance function to two dimensional random field. The extended turning band method for the generation of random field is applied to the problem using the line generation method of one dimensional stochastic process by G.Matheron. Examples of this generation is chosen in the random components of the multidimensional rainfall model suggested by Bras and are given with a comparison between theoretical and sample statistics. In this numerical experiments it is observed that first and second order statistics can be conserved. Also the example of moving storm simulation through Bras model is presented with the appropriate parameters and sample size.

Frequently occurring flood and drought have increased the necessity of an effective water resources control and management of river flows. Therefore, the simulation of the flow distribution in natural rivers is very important to the solution of a wide variety of practical flow problems in water resources engineering. Usually in many flow problems, two-dimensional approach can provide good estimates of complex flow features in the flow around islands and obstructions, flow at confluence and flow in braided channel. The objective of this study is to examine validation of developed an accurate and robust two-dimensional finite element method with wet and dry simulation in complex natural rivers. Milyang river, and Kumho river and Keum river were performed for tests. The results were compared with those of existing model. The suggested model displayed reasonable flow distribution compared with existing model in dry area for application of natural river flow. As a result of this study, the developed general two-dimensional model provide a reliable results for flow distribution of wet and dry domain, it could be further developed to basis for extending to water quality and sediment transport analysis.
The characteristics of turbulent boundary layers over hilly terrain depend strongly on the hill slope and upstream condition, especially inflow turbulence. Numerical simulations are carried out to investigate the neutrally stratified turbulent boundary layer over two-dimensional hills. Two kinds of hill shape, a steep one with stable separation and a low one without stable separation, two kinds of inflow condition, laminar turbulent, are considered. An auxiliary simulation, based on the local differential quadrature method and recycling technique, is performed to simulate the inflow turbulence be imposed at inlet boundary of the turbulent inflow, which preserves very well in the computational domain. A large separation bubble is established on the leeside of the steep hill with laminar inflow, while reattachment point moves upstream under turbulent inflow condition. There is stable separation on the side of low hill with laminar inflow, whilw not turbulent inflow. Besides increase of turbulence intensity, inflow can efficiently enhance the speedup around hills. So in practice, it is unreasonable to study wind flow over hilly terrain without considering inflow turbulence.

This paper presents a three dimensional modeling and simulations of operation and running of a wheel loader using the ADAMS program. A wheel loader consists of a bucket, a boom, a crank, a front frame, a rear frame, a bucket cylinder, two boom cylinders, two steering cylinders, nine spherical joints, six universal joints, five translation joints, three inline joints, a revolute and a fixed joint. Judging from the actual degrees of freedom of the wheel loader, proper kinematic joints are selected to exclude redundant constraints in the modeling. Through the running simulation over a bump with the three dimensional modeling, the joint reaction forces are calculated.

The air distribution duct with multiple outlets is an essential part of automotive air-conditioning system In a bus. The estimation of airflow rate in an automotive air-conditioning duct is typically very complicate due to large variations in cross-sectional area and abrupt changes in flow direction, as well as unbalanced distribution of the flow. In this paper, the flow characteristic in a duct with multiple outlets is investigated through experiment, CFD simulation and a one-dimensional simulation. Numerical simulations have been performed for two simplified air conditioning ducts with multiple outlets used in a medium bus. The three dimensional Navier-Stokes code was used to evaluate the overall pressure, velocity Held, and distribution rate at each diffuser according to the change of various design parameters such as ratio of cross-sectional area and radius of bifurcated region. In addition, a one-dimensional program based on Bernoulli equation was developed to obtain optimized diffuser area required to equalize discharge flow rate at each outlet. As a result of this study, optimized diffuser area of design variable by one-dimensional program was very reasonable as compared to the trend deduced from CFD Simulation. Therefore, the simple and convenient one-dimensional analysis developed in this study can be applied in practical design procedure for air-conditioning duct.
