  • Fancy Yarn has developed diverse textures in fabrics, reducing the time in yarn and fabric production or apparel making in order to develop creative goods. In this study aimed to propose the use of a 4D box system to make fancy yarn shapes with loops, knops and spirals and the like. The change in texture was analysed and simulated to produce a suitable fabric image by using the fancy yarns fabric. The results are as follows. The plain weave, 2/2 basket weave, 2/2 twill weave, 2/2 2 complete broken weaves, and 5 harness sateen weaves were woven and a fabric image formed. In the case of the loop and the knop yarns fabric image, compared to the twisted fabric image the surface was covered by loops or some parts became partially black. In the case of the spiral shape it showed pattern continuity in spiral shapes 1, 2 and 3. The more twisted spirals produced a diamond shaped pattern or a twill line and a herring bone shaped twill line. An evenly distributed black fabric image appeared in 5 harness sateen weave. For the loop shape the broken weave or 5 harness sateen weave was produced; basket weave and broken weave for the knop yarn 1 or knop yarn 2; and for the spiral shape a plain fabric or 5 harness sateen weave were produced much similar to the fabric image. The surface texture of the mapped image compared to the twisted fabric image produces fancy yarn fabric images covered with loops or irregular spots caused by the knop and the spiral. Therefore it is appropriate or suitable for the simulation of tweed or woolen wool fabrics. The fabric image which produced consistent and continuous lines is therefore more suitable for simulations of twill or herringbone fabric images.

  • In the previous experimental study about extrusion of circular product with four helical fins, it was known that product with helical fins may not to be rotated during extruding with rotating extrusion dies in spite of using twisted dies. According to the results of experiments with Plasticin material, it was anticipated that the extrusion load could be reduced if rotating dies could be used, because it needs high pressure in order to twist billet and form fin shape on the surface of product in the case of using conventional fixed helical dies. So, in this paper, according to the extrusion load analyzed by DEFORM-3D software, optimal rotational velocity of rotating dies can be obtained, and the twisting, angle of product can be analyzed during extruding product with helical fins in the case of two types of rotating of dies. The results of analysis by DEFORM-3D show that the twisting angle of product can be controlled by twisted angle of extrusion helical dies and the rotational velocity of helical dies.

  • Insulation breakdown characteristics of an inverter surge resistant enameled wire were investigated in a twisted pair prepared with organic/inorganic hybrid nanocomposite. Organic polymer was polyesterimide-polyamideimide (EI/AI) and inorganic material was a nano-sized silica. The enamel thickness was 50 μm and the diameters of enameled copper wires were 0.75, 1.024, and 1.09 mm, respectively. There were many air gaps in a twisted pair. Therefore, when the voltage was applied to the twisted pair, enamel erosion took place in the air gap area because of partial discharge according to Paschen’s law. The insulation lifetime of the hybrid wire (HW) was 41,750 sec, which was 515.4 times more than the 81 sec of EI/AIW. In addition, the shape parameter of HW was 2.58, which was 3.4 times higher than 0.75 of EI/AIW.

  • The line array roll set process, as one of many kinds of incremental forming processes, is a continuous process in which a flat metal plate is formed into a singly or doubly curved plate through successive passes of forming rolls. It was found that the curvature level of the formed plates in the previous study was well over the curvature required in shipyards. This fact shows that the LARS method has considerable potential for shipbuilding applications. In a shipbuilding yard, hull forming is an important fabrication process in which flat plates are deformed into singly or doubly curved plates. The major purpose of the present study is to estimate experimentally the general applicability of the line array roll set process for the manufacture of ship hull plates. In this study, the target shapes are selected through investigation of the shape classification of ship hull plates that comprise a certain vessel. Forming processes for twisted shapes are analyzed with the finite element method (FEM). Finally, the results of experimental work for two types of target shapes are presented.

  • In this paper, the three-dimensional finite element model is established to investigate the structural dynamic characteristics of rotor blade using a finite element analysis. Six natural frequencies and mode shapes are calculated by computer simulation. The first three flapping modal frequencies, the first two lead-lag modal frequencies, and the first feathering modal frequency are validated through comparison with the modal test results of the fixed rotor blade. The computer simulation results are found in good agreement with experimentally measured natural frequencies. The important results are obtained as follows: (1) Natural frequencies are changed due to the variation of rotational speed and fiber angle of rotor blade, (2) Weak coupling between flapping mode shape and lead-lag mode shape are detected, (3) Centrifugal force has more effect on flapping modal frequency than lead-lag modal frequency.

  • Multiaxial loading by combinations of tension-torsion-internal pressure have been applied to the thins-walled tubular specimens prepared from cold drawn tubes of SAE 1020 steel. Prior to the multiaxial loading, each specimen has been twisted to different shear strains. Uniaxial tensile yield stresses measured at different angles to the tube axis clearly show that the initial orthotropic symmetry is maintained during twisting. The orthotropy axes are observed to rotate with shear strains. The plane stress yield locus measured for each twisted specimens show that yield surface shape does not remain similar during twisting and thus anisotropic work hardening is not a function of only plastic work.

  • Recently, in an effort to reduce the energy efficiency design index (EEDI), studies on energy saving devices (ESDs) have been conducted. In this study, we designed a post-device suitable for a KRISO container ship (KCS) using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In order to increase the efficiency of the post-device, a twisted rudder was used, which has a proven performance (showing a 1.34% reduction in DHP compared to the bare hull at 24 knots) in previous research at Pusan National University. In addition, an increase in efficiency was expected by the use of a rudder bulb, including the discontinuous section of the twisted rudder and a divergent propeller cap to prevent the contraction of the wake. The optimization criterion was the case where the delivery power was the least compared with the bare hull. We analyzed the cause of the efficiency increase through an analysis of the self-propulsion factor. The case study for optimization was divided into 4 types (1. clearance of the bulb and cap, 2. shape of the bulb, 3. size of the bulb and cap, and 4. asymmetric bulb). Finally, with a clearance of 50 mm from the ship, a spherical bulb with the cap having an angle of $5^{\circ}$, and an asymmetric rudder bulb with a bulb diameter of 1.2HH/1.4H (horizontal/vertical) showed a 2.05% reduction in DHP compared to the bare hull at 24 knots. We will fabricate a post-device that will be optimized in the future and verify the performance of the post-device through model tests.
