Mathematical model of maneuvering motion for a single-screw single-rudder ship is established and several applications to the special situations of maneuvering are attempted. While, the mathematical model for twin-screw twin-rudder ship is not presented so much, because that type of ship is not popular. Lee et al. have examined the characteristics of such ship by captive model tests in 1988, in Japan. This paper proposes new mathematical models for propeller effective wake (1 -${\omega}_p$) and effective neutral rudder angle ${delta}_R$ in the case of twin-screw twin-rudder ship. And some maneuvering motionse are calculated with proposed models and compared with exact simulations.

The manoeuvrability of a ship with an unwanted heel angle due to a maritime accident is changed from the original characteristics. The purpose of this study is to quantitatively investigate the change in the manoeuvring performance of a twin-screw ship under various hee angles and speed conditions. A series of free running model test campaigns were performed in the Ocean Engineering Basin of Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) for a twin-screw car ferry vessel. Turning circle test and zig-zag 10/10 and 20/20 tests were carried out on the heel angles of 0, -10, and -19.5 degrees. In addition, two-speed conditions were considered to understand the effect of ship speed. In order to examine the effect of the bilge keel, a heel angle of -22 degree where the bilge keel is exposed outside the water surface, was considered. Finally, the change of manoeuvring characteristics according to the heel angle for a twin-screw and a single-screw vessel is discussed.
An intermeshing corotating twin screw extruder is mainly used for compounding polymeric materials. Twin screw extruder can adopt modular-type screw configurations, which directly controls the quality and productivity of the products. The types, shapes, and specifications of the screw and kneading elements are summarized, and the effects of screw configuration on the processabiliy of the materials are discussed. The principles of screw configuration universally applied to mass production of general-purpose resins are explained, and the guidelines of screw combination according to the roles of feeding, melt mixing, and metering zones are listed. The strategies of screw combination suitable for various cases, such as side feeding of liquid additives or inorganic fillers, reactive extrusion, devolatilization process, production of products requiring bright color and transparency, and processing of materials with low apparent specific gravity, are presented.
Twin-screw kneader is an efficient polymer processing equipment. In this paper, the mixing performance of one novel intermeshing counter-rotating twin-screw kneader with different tip angles of the male rotor is simulated using the mesh superimposition technique (MST). Statistical analysis is carried out for the flow field using particle tracking technique, and distributive mixing performance is evaluated using the residence time distribution and segregation scale, while the dispersive mixing performance is estimated using the parameters such as shear rate, stretching rate and mixing index. The results show that the best distributive mixing performance is achieved when the tip angle is 0o, while the optimal dispersive mixing performance is obtained when the tip angle is 20o. The results in this paper provide a data basis for the selection of parameters and optimization of the performance for the screw rotors.

Twin-skeg type stern shapes are recently adopted for very large commercial ships. However it is difficult to apply a CFD system to a hull form having twin-skeg, since grid topology around a twin-skeg type stern is more complicated than that of a conventional single-screw ship, or of an open-shaft type twin-screw ship with center-skeg. In the present study a surface mesh generator and a multi-block field grid generation program have been developed for twin-skeg type stern. Furthermore, multi-block flow solvers are utilized for potential and viscous flow analysis around a twin-skeg type stern The present computational system is applied to a 15,000TEU container ship with twin-skeg to prove the applicability. Wave profiles and wake distribution are calculated using the developed flow analysis tools and the results are compared with towing tank measurements.
The residence time distributions were measured experimentally to determine the effect of reverse screw elements at various screw configurations in twin screw extruder. A simple model was used to estimate the number of filled C-chamber on the forwarding screw. The inclusion of reverse-screw elements resulted in the increase of median residence time and the broadening of color distribution. True residence time was affected by using the reverse screw elements just before the die. The number of filled C-chamber was decreased with the increase of screw revolution speed at the same screw configuration.

In view of the fact that marine casualties have more often occurred recently, there is a need for ship-handling simulator as a useful tool for maritime training, safety assessment and so on. Moreover various kinds of hull forms have appeared for the purpose of improving ship manoeuvrality. Therefore ship-handling simulator is in need of a database for various ships, and it can make diverse maneuvering simulations possible to apply respective mathematical model to ship-handling simulator. In this paper, we adopted twin-screw and twin-rudder ship and discussed mathematical model of maneuvering motions for her. It was discussed from the viewpoint of hull damping forces at low advance speed and interaction between hull, propeller and rudder. Using this model, maneuvering motion of twin-screw and twin-propeller ship was simulated numerically and her principal manoeuvrability was examined.

To optimize the properties of compounds, effective mixing is of importance to achieve adequate distribution and dispersion of filler particles. A variety of mixing elements have been used for twin-screw extruders in order to improve the mixing efficiency. In this study, the effects of 10 screw configurations on the filler dispersion were investigated for the calcium carbonate filled polystyrene processed in a co-rotating twin-screw extruder. The state of filler dispersion was characterized by equipped with a photodiode. The experimental results indicated that the type and position of mixing elements primarily affected the degree of filler dispersion.

Recently, ship owners have been requiring the assessment of the maneuverability of a twin-screw ship under machinery failures. In this paper, we are only focused on the propulsion failure among propulsion failure, power supply failure, steering system failure etc. First of all, the mathematical model for the twin-screw 174K LNGC is verified by comparing the simulated results for $35^{\circ}$ turning test, $10^{\circ}/10^{\circ}$ zigzag test and $20^{\circ}/20^{\circ}$ zigzag test under normal operating condition and those obtained from free running model tests. And, sea trial results of 216K LNGC under single propeller failure are compared with those of 174K LNGC under identical condition to verify the proposed method to predict maneuverability under single propeller failure. After the straight line maneuver is simulated under the single propeller failure, the speed and equilibrated heading and rudder deflection angles at steady state are predicted. After the IMO maneuvering tests are simulated under the single propeller failure, the results are reviewed to investigate the maneuvering characteristics due to the failure.
