This review of the literature explored the experiences and effects of peer-assisted learning in basic medical education. Peer-assisted learning is most commonly utilized to teach clinical skills (including technical skills) and medical knowledge (76.4%). It has also been used, albeit less frequently, to facilitate small-group discussions including problem-based learning, to promote students' personal and professional development, to provide mentoring for career development and adaptation to school, to give tutoring to at-risk students, and to implement work-based learning in clinical settings. Near-peer learning is a common type. The use of active learning techniques and digital technology has been increasingly reported. Students' leadership had frequently been described. Student tutor training, programs for teaching skills, institutional support, and assessments have been conducted for effective peer-assisted learning. There is considerable positive evidence that peer-assisted learning is effective in teaching simple clinical skills and medical knowledge for tutees. However, its effects on complex skills and knowledge, small-group discussions, personal and professional development, peer mentoring, and work-based learning have rarely been studied. Additionally, little evidence exists regarding whether peer-assisted learning is effective for student tutors. Further research is needed to develop peer-assisted learning programs and to investigate their learning effects on student tutors, small-group discussion facilitation, personal and professional development, peer mentoring, and peer-led work-based learning in the clinical setting in South Korea. Formal programs and system advancement for a student-led learning culture is needed for effective peer-assisted learning.
This study aims to investigate effects of scaffolding on writing apprehension and media literacy in engineering freshmen's synchronous online writing course, and the relationships between the two variables. 'Scaffolding' is in-time support provided by a teacher/tutor or competent peer that enables students to meaningfully gain skills at problem solving process. Also, it is one of the most frequently mentioned concepts in education as well as one of the more necessary teaching strategies in an online writing course. In this study, provided treatments for the experiment were supportive scaffolding for domain-specific knowledge and reflective scaffolding for meta-cognitive knowledge. Participants were 102 engineering undergraduate students, who were assigned to two experimental groups by scaffolding types. A process-based writing course in online learning environment was conducted for 8 weeks. The writing tasks were given according to writing process. The findings were that, firstly, there were statistically significant writing apprehension's reduction and self-expression's improvement through the scaffolding provided in writing class. Secondly, writing apprehension's reduction and self-expression's improvement were significant in supportive scaffolding group. Thirdly, media literacy predicted writing apprehension. The practical implications of these findings are discussed herein, with particular attention on ways for writing apprehension's reduction as well as media literacy's enhancement.

The most effective tutoring method is one-on-one, face-to-face in-person human tutoring. However, due to the limited availability of human tutors, computer-based alternatives have been developed. These software based alternatives are called Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) which are used to tutor students in different domains. Although ITS performance is inferior to that of human teachers, the field is growing and has recently become very popular. User interfaces play key role in usability perspective of ITS. Even though ITS research has advanced, the majority of the work has concentrated on learning sciences while mostly disregarding user interfaces. Because of this, the present ITS includes effective learning modules but a less effective interface design. Usability is one approach to gauge a software's performance, while "ease of use" is one way to assess a software's quality. This paper measures the usability effectiveness of an ITS which is designed to teach Object-Oriented (OO) analysis and design concepts using Unified Modeling Language (UML). Computer Supported Usability Questionnaire (CSUQ) survey was conducted for usability evaluation of UML-ITS. According to participants' responses to the system's usability survey, all responses lie between 1 to 3 scale points which indicate that the participants were satisfied and comfortable with most of the system's interface features.
Many universities are searching for educational methods to cultivate problem-solving ability and cooperative learning ability or already trying to implement them. Problem Based Learning(PBL) and Action Learning(AL) are effective teaching and learning methods to cultivate men of talent qualified for problem-solving and cooperative learning abilities that universities are seeking after. PBL and AL have something in common in that learning is accomplished while learners are solving the authentic problem. But, in spite of this similarity, PBL and AL have differences. However, most literatures and cases on these two models introduce only the outline of commons and differences and do not provide teachers with actual helping aids to select a model appropriate for the actual design or operation of classes. Accordingly, many teachers usually select and utilize a familiar model rather than select a proper model to the nature of a subject and the educational goal. Teaching and learning methods or learning environment should be selected appropriately to the educational goal. This study indicates the characteristics of PBL and AL that are being introduced and utilized as a principal teaching and learning method of college education and then shows how this method can be realized in the university by comparing the cases of classes applied in two methods.

Although a call for the implementation of PBL in nursing education is getting increased, it has not been actively implemented as it could be. The main reason for this situation seems to be the lack of well designed learning packages. Well designed PBL packages can be the core factor for the successful implementation of PBL. However, this seems to be the hardest task for teachers wanting to implement PBL. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop a systematic framework of PBL package development process and provide the examples of its application. This framework of the process of PBL package development includes thirteen steps. First of all, the team needs to decide a topic to be explored in the package and then clusters concepts related to the topic. Second, the team selects a real situation and writes it as a story. Third, knowledge, skills, and attitudes that practitioners need to know to deal with the situation will be explored. Fourth, learning objectives will be written. The next, the team will check if the situation includes multidisciplinary concepts and content. Sixth, the story will be divided into several parts. Seventh, part 1 will be written. Eighth, clinical documents related to part 1 need to be prepared. Ninth, the team will write a suggested approach for students. Then, they need to prepare a tutor's guide for part 1. Eleventh, the team will prepare a list of reading materials and plan for lectures and clinical laboratory sessions. Twelfth, they will write part 2 ~ part N following the steps from the seventh to the eleventh. The last step is evaluating the package and amending it as needed. These thirteen steps are very detailed and easy to follow for beginners. It is expected that this framework will contribute to accelerate the implementation of PBL in nursing education.
Objective: The goal of this study is to design a creative tutoring service, which helps children gain confidence and creativity through learning activities. Background: Nowadays most kids are growing up in a very competitive environment under their parents' zeal for education. A stressful environment can deter a child from the confident undertaking of challenges, leading to depression, anxiety, and feelings of inadequacy. Art therapy helps children work through these issues, however the process led by instructors or parents, and kids still feel anxious studying adults' face to read their thought. Method: To help children address challenges, a creative tutoring service application can provide images with certain tasks instead of asking them to fill in blank areas. The tasks asked by the service system are 1) to visualize children's own experience utilizing visually associated images from given images and 2) to create an illustrated story modifying and re-composing given images. Another task is to learn basic math and words with numbers and alphabets in customized colors. By completing each task children collect awards, which allow them graduate to higher levels of challenges. The outcomes from the tasks are sent to the main server system and reviewed by analysts. Those results are sent to children's parents as a text message on smart phone. Results: Visual implication using images inspires children to make creative stories based on their own experience. Also, children can find their own patterns of reaching answers by using synaesthetic imagery through repetitive practices of creative thinking tasks. Conclusion: Understanding how they feel about doing tasks in certain environments and assessing them in varied situations should be carefully considered when designers approach service design for kids. By focusing on how to tutor children in creative ways, as opposed to focusing on the expected outcome, creative service applications can be designed to reduce children's stress and encourage self expression. Children are predicted to gain confidence through using the service without the concern of comparison by others. Application: The creative tutoring service needs to be developed and tested by varying types of children.
Purpose - Although e-learning has this advantage, currently many organizations have failed to recognize the necessity for basic e-learning educational training. It follows that practitioners working in the above organizations face the difficulty of having to find educational training processes of boosting their capabilities by themselves, rather than being able to utilize the educational training processes offered by e-learning. So of their own accord, learners have considered the necessity of information relating to being able to choose between high quality educational training processes. The purpose of this study is to propose opening e-learning content information for enabling an efficient choice of learning processes related to e-learning. Research design, data, and methodology - To pinpoint the items of e-learning content information, the study was initiated according to the following process. First, information relating to e-learning content (offered on e-learning websites) was researched. Second, based on the items of information which emerged from the research, selection and validity verification took place with 5 e-learning specialists as the subjects. Third, the opinions of adult learners at K University were collated relating to the items of information which emerged from the research. Results - The e-learning content information was comprised of 16 items in order to improve the choosing process for learner's e-learning contents. The analysis results showed that when learners were choosing e-learning processes, the most highly considered item was 'mobile support' (4.35). Following this (in order) were 'tuition fees' (4.30), 'certificate issuing' (4.23), and 'awareness of educational institution' (4.18). The least considered items were 'recruiting learners' (3.01) and 'tutor support' (3.18). Conclusions - The 16 items of e-learning content information in this study, were deemed to be helpful to learners in providing them with a choice of desirable e-learning process when this process was offered to them. Following this, there is a need for service institutions offering e-learning processes to make public the information suggested by this study. Research into educational methods additionally points to a necessity for not only e-learning forms, but also offline educational methods and a combination of blended learning to be offered and run parallel to e-learning.

The purpose of this study is to present an actual example for procedures for developing a PBL package based on philosophical backgrounds derived from Problem-based learning. To perform a systemic study on the operations of an intergrated curricula under multidisciplines, a research team made up of several professors with different academic backgrounds was formed. Among the four situations for the patients with perception-adjustment disorder, especially a procedure for the development of PBL package which can be used in the emergency room situation has been proposed. The little(2000)'s PBL package model has been applied for this study. Tha package includes course objectives, learning objectives, concept map, situation scenario, tutor guide, and evaluation method. It is believed that learning objectives achievement procedures designed as a part of a problem-based learning package development procedures for the nursing of patients with perception-adjustment can be achieved at the same level as the learning objectives for the science of nursing founded by the Korean Nurses Association.

It is not sufficient to give a lecture in programming language without programming practice since lectures on programming must be given at lecture room with H/W and S/W for programming. In this paper, learning for Visual Basic programming has been designed and embodied with the leveled learning system in order to give an effective and positive result to both teacher and learner under the constructivism theory of education (Problem Based learning, Self-Directed learning) for the theoretical basis of the seventh education curriculum. We implemented a web courseware for Visual Basic programming using ActiveX and Tutor System. As the result of education using this courseware, it is verified as a leveled education method to adapt the learning ability of individual students, and it can raise the achievement, enthusiasm of learning and provide various opportunity of education with this various education methods. Also it enhances the problem solving ability and the logical thinking power by providing students with error correction learning.

Basic science teaching and clinical education should be integrated whenever appropriate, and the development of skills, values, and attitudes which are emphasized to the same extent as the acquisition of knowledge in nursing. Problem-based learning provides a students-centered learning environment and encourages an inquisitive style of learning. The purpose of this paper is to review and comment the role of tutors and students on problem-based learning. The use of problem-based learning places a high demand on faculty members' time and support. The role of tutors in Problem-based learning focuses primarily on issues of developing and teaching the curriculum and on organizational implementation and institutionalization. Tutors are an integral part of course planning. Tutors serve as a constant source of feedback on student needs and concerns to the course director and constitute an informal steering committee while the course is in progress. Tutors write cases, develop student evaluation methods, recommend resources, suggest modifications in lectures and laboratories. Students have a limited amount of time available to study what is traditionally defined as the core content of nursing. But, the role of students in Problem-based learning would be active, independent learners and problem-solvers rather than passive recipients of information. Students using a deep level approach attempt to integrate what they learn with what they already know, to understand the meaning underlying the material to be learned, and to look for explanations rather than facts. Students are encouraged, with appropriate guidance, to define their own learning goals, to select appropriate experiences to achieve these goals, and to be responsible for assessing their own learning progress. Problem-based learning is more flexible and meaningful, by encouraging student interaction, and by having a better emotional climate than the conventional learning.
