The Quality Specialities in Turkiye's Honies for Apitherapy

  • Objectives: In this study, the content of the honey produced by the flora of Turkey', physical, chemical and biological research aimed at active properties. Methods: Searched the database EMBASE/Pubmed and Turkish Medicine Index research article about Turkiye honeys' specialities. Results: Different botanical sources were caused, different kinds of chemical compositions of the honeys. The amount of HMF, pH, moisture, and acidity are the chemical qulity criteria of the honey. Carbohydrates are seem the most important components of honey. The glycemic index of the consumed honey is important. Turkiye's honey quality seems apropiate for using apitherapy. Conclusion: Honey is the most important product of beekeeping all over the world in terms of economy and health. Manufacturers of honey should be careful while producing honey. They should be avoided unhealty situations and they should be obey the rules. These rules are the basis for protecting our health by consuming bee products.

Damage evaluation of masonry buildings during Kahramanmaraş (Türkiye) earthquakes on February 06, 2023

  • The Mw=7.7 (Pazarcık-Kahramanmaraş) and Mw=7.6 (Elbistan-Kahramanmaraş) earthquakes that occurred in Türkiye on 06.02.2023 with 9 hours' intervals, caused great losses of life and property as the biggest catastrophe in the instrumental period. The earthquakes affecting an area of 14% of the country were enormous and caused a great deal of loss of life and damage. Numerous buildings have collapsed or damaged at different levels, both in the city centers and in rural areas. Within the scope of this study, masonry structure damage built from different types of materials in the earthquake region was taken into consideration. In this study, the damage and causes of such masonry structures that do not generally receive engineering services were examined and explained in detail. Insufficient interlocking between wall-wall and wall-roof, inadequate masonry, lack of horizontal and vertical bond beams, usage of low-strength materials, poor workmanship, and heavy earthen roof are commonly caused to structural damages. Separation at the corner point and out-of-plane mechanism in structural walls, and heavy earthen roof damages are common types of damage in masonry structures.

A comparative analysis of seismic and structural parameters for historical period earthquakes in Türkiye

  • The high seismic risk has once again revealed in Türkiye with two major earthquakes that occurred on 06.02.2023, which took its place among the most destructive earthquakes in the last century. Totally, 65 earthquakes that occurred in the historical period in Türkiye were taken into account within the scope of this study. The seismic parameters were compared by considering the last two earthquake hazard maps for the epicenters of these earthquakes. Earthquake Intensity (I) of historical earthquakes were converted to Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) by using suggested relations. Structural analyzes were performed for a sample reinforced-concrete building by using the obtained PGA's and predicted PGA's in the last two earthquake hazard maps. In the structural analysis, two different material groups such as low (C12-S220) and normal (C25-S420) were selected. As the material strength increased, the period value decreased, while the seismic capacity and stiffness increased. It has been determined that there are differences between the measured and proposed seismic risks for some earthquakes, and as a result, there are significant differences between the expected target displacement values from the structures. Therefore, it will not be possible to estimate the damage and to determine the building performance realistically. The main purpose of the study is to reveal whether the earthquake risk is adequately represented on seismic and structural parameters.
