  • In this paper, we propose a low-complexity Turbo coded BICM-ID (bit-interleaved coded modulation with iterative decoding) system. A Turbo code is a powerful error correcting code with a BER (bit error rate) performance very close to the Shannon limit. In order to increase spectral efficiency of the Turbo code, a coded modulation combining Turbo code with high order modulation is used. The BER performance of Turbo-BICM can be improved by Turbo-BICM-ID using iterative demodulation and decoding algorithm. However, compared with Turbo-BICM, the decoding complexity of Turbo-BICM-ID is increased by exchanging information between decoder and demodulator. To reduce the decoding complexity of Turbo-BICM-ID, we propose a low-complexity Turbo-BICM-ID system. When compared with conventional Turbo-BICM-ID, the proposed scheme not only show similar BER performance but also reduce the decoding complexity.

  • In this study, an adapted Turbo Coding Algorithm for reducing communication error of a fire detection system for marine vessels, especially image transmission via power lone. Because it is necessary that this system communicate larger and faster than previous method, this study carried out enhancement a decoding speed by adaptation CRC with Turbo Code Algorithm, improvement of metric method, and reduction of decoding delay by using of Center-to-Top method. And the results are as follows: (1) Confirmed that a Turbo Code is so useful methods for reducing communication error in lots of noise environments. (2)Proposed technology in this study speed increasing method of Turbo Coding Algorithm proves 2 times faster than normal Turbo Code and communication error reducing as well in the board made by VHDL software & chips ALTERA company.

  • In this paper, we propose and present implementation results of a high-speed turbo decoding algorithm. The latency caused by (de)interleaving and iterative decoding in a conventional maximum a posteriori turbo decoder can be dramatically reduced with the proposed design. The source of the latency reduction is from the combination of the radix-4, center to top, parallel decoding, and early-stop algorithms. This reduced latency enables the use of the turbo decoder as a forward error correction scheme in real-time wireless communication services. The proposed scheme results in a slight degradation in bit error rate performance for large block sizes because the effective interleaver size in a radix-4 implementation is reduced to half, relative to the conventional method. To prove the latency reduction, we implemented the proposed scheme on a field-programmable gate array and compared its decoding speed with that of a conventional decoder. The results show an improvement of at least five fold for a single iteration of turbo decoding.

  • In this paper, we propose and present implementation results of a high-speed turbo decoding algorithm. The latency caused by (de) interleaving and iterative decoding in a conventional maximum a posteriori(MAP) turbo decoder can be dramatically reduced with the proposed design. The source of the latency reduction is come from the combination of the radix-4, dual-path processing, parallel decoding, and rearly-stop algorithms. This reduced latency enables the use of the turbo decoder as a forward error correction scheme in real-time wireless communication services. The proposed scheme results in a slight degradation in bit-error rate(BER) performance for large block sizes because the effective interleaver size in a radix-4 implementation is reduced to half, relative to the conventional method. Fixed on the parameters of N=212, iteration=3, 8-states, 3 iterations, and QPSK modulation scheme, we designed the adaptive high-speed turbo decoder using the Xilinx chip (VIRTEX2P (XC2VP30-5FG676)) with the speed of 17.78 Mb/s. From the results, we confirmed that the decoding speed of the proposed decoder is faster than conventional algorithms by 8 times.

  • This paper introduces an efficient iterative decoding method for high-dimensional block turbo codes. To improve the decoding performance, we modified the soft decision Viterbi decoding algorithm, which is a trellis-based method. The iteration number can be significantly reduced in the soft output decoding process by applying multiple usage of extrinsic reliability information from all available axes and appropriately normalizing them. Our simulation results reveal that the proposed decoding process needs only about 30% of the iterations required to obtain the same performance with the conventional method at a bit error rate range of $10^{-5}\;to\;10^{-6}$.

  • In this paper, turbo codes with the DC-free trellis codes based on partition chain as constituent codes are presente. And efficient methods to design the DC-free turbo codes are introduced. An iterative decoding with the MAP algorithm is used for the decoding of the turbo codes designed by various methods. As results of simulations, the presented DC-free turbo codes show better error performances than the DC-free trellis codes.

  • Turbo codes, whose performance in bit error rate is close to the Shannon limit, have been adopted as a part of standard for the third-generation high-speed wireless data services. Iterative Turbo decoding results in decoding delay and high power consumption. As wireless communication systems can only use limited power supply, low power design techniques are essential for mobile device implementation. This paper proposes new effective criteria for stopping the iteration process in turbo decoding to reduce power consumption. By setting two stopping criteria, decodable threshold and undecodable threshold, we can effectively reduce the number of decoding iterations with only negligible error-correcting performance degradation. Simulation results show that the number of unsuccessful error-correction can be reduced by 89% and the number of decoding iterations can be reduced by 29% on the average among 12500 simulations when compared with those of an existing typical method.

  • In this paper, the performance of an OFDM/CDMA system with turbo coding is analyzed and simulated in a multipath fading channel. Bit error probability is derived fDr a Rayleigh fading channel. In an OFDM/CDMA system, an OFDM and a CDMA techniques are combined to exploit the advantages of both techniques. For decoding of turbo code, MAP decoding algorithm is employed. From the simulation results. it is demonstrated that turbo coding offers considerable coding gain with reasonable encoding/decoding complexity. Also, it is shown that the BER performance is substantially improved by increasing the interleaver length for a fixed code rate and the increasing number of iterations used in the decoding process. The results in the paper can be applied to the design of OFDM-based CDMA system.

  • In this paper, a butterfly Log-MAP decoding algorithm for turbo code is proposed. Different from the conventional turbo decoder, we derived a generalized formula to calculate the log-likelihood ratio (LLR) and drew a modified butterfly states diagram in 8-states systematic turbo coded system. By comparing the complexity of conventional implementations, the proposed algorithm can efficiently reduce both the computations and work units without bit error ratio (BER) performance degradation.

  • The bit error rate(BER)of the data passed through Wideband-Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) system with turbo-codes structure is presented. The performance of turbo-codes under W-CDMA system is estimated for various users and iteration numbers of decoding. The channel model is Additive White Gaussian Noise(AWGN) and Rayleigh fading channel. When iteration number increases, bit error probability of turbo-codes decreases. and when the number of users increase, bit error probability of turbo-codes increases.
