It is well blown about the fact that turbo code has better the BER performance as the number of decoding iterations increases in the AWGN channel environment. However, as the number of decoding iterations is increased under the several channel environments, any further iteration results in very little improvement, and it requires much delay and computation in proportion to the number of decoding iterations. In this paper, it proposes the efficient iterative decoding stop criterion algorithm which can largely reduce the computation and the average number of decoding iterations of turbo code. Through simulations, it is verifying that the proposed algorithm can efficiently stop the iterative decoding by using the variance value of LLR and can largely reduce the computation and the average number of decoding iterations without BER performance degradation. As a result of simulation, the computation for the proposed algerian is reduced by about $40\%$ compared to conventional CE algorithm. The average number of decoding iterations for the proposed algorithm is reduced by about $9.94\%$ and $8.32\%$ compared to conventional HDA and SCR algorithm respectively, and by about $2.16\%{\~}7.84\%$ compared to conventional CE algorithm.

In this paper, the new decoding algorithm of Block Turbo Codes using Channel State Information(CSI), which is estimated to compensate for the distorted signal caused by multi-path fading, is proposed in order to improve error correction capacity during decoding procedure in OFDM system. The performance of the new decoding algorithm is compared to that of the conventional decoding algorithm without using channel state information under the Rayleigh fading channel. Experimental results showed that in case of only one iteration coding gains of up to 5.0dB~9.0dB can be obtained by applying the channel state information to the conventional decoding algorithm according to the modulation methods. In addition to that, the new decoding algorithm using channel state information at only one iteration shows a performance improvement of 3.5dB to 5.0dB when compared to the conventional decoding algorithm after four iterations. This leads to reduce the considerable amount of computation.

It is known that turbo codes have an error-floor bound according to the effective free distance at high SNR. But the performance for turbo codes in the water-fall area at low SHR has not been studied yet. In this paper, asymmetric turbo codes that consist of RSC(recursive systematic convolutional) codes with different constraint length are proposed and their performance is analysed for SOVA decoding algorithm.
In this paper, a method based on the turbo principle is presented which combines diversity reception, equalization, and channel decoding, to combat the high transmission losses over the frequency-selective fading channel. The simulation results show that with the method presented, the BER performance within 0.3 ㏈ from that on the AWGN channel can be obtained over the frequency-selective fading channel in the investigated scenarios.

In this paper, we present two simulation methods to investigate the effect of excluding bit errors on generating the extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart for low density parity check (LDPC) and turbo codes. We utilized the simulation methods including and excluding bit errors to generate EXIT chart which was originally proposed for turbo codes. The generated EXIT charts for LDPC and turbo codes shows that the presented methods appropriately demonstrates the performance behaviours of iterative decoding for LDPC and turbo codes. Analysis on the simulation results demonstrates that the EXIT chart excluding the bit errors shows only a small part of the curves where the amount of information is too large.

The performance of turbo codes is investigated in the direct detection optical PPM channel. We assume that an ideal photon counter is used as an optical detector and that the channel has background noise as well as quantum noise. Resulting channel model is M-ary PPM Poisson channel. We propose the structure of the transmitter and receiver for applying turbo codes to this channel. We also derive turbo decoding algorithm for the proposed coding system, by modifying the calculation of the branch metric inherent in the original turbo decoding algorithm developed for the AWGN channel. Analytical bounds are derived and computer simulation is performed to analyze the performance of the proposed coding scheme, and the results are compared with the performances of Reed-Solomon codes and convolutional codes.

In the recent digital communication systems, the performance of Turbo Code using the mr correction coding depends on the interleaver influencing the free distance determination and the recursive decoding algorithms that is executed in the huh decoder. However, performance depends on the interleaver depth that needs many delays over the reception process. Moreover, turbo code has been blown as the robust coding methods with the confidence over the fading channel. International Telecommunication Union(ITU) has recently adopted it as the standardization of the channel coding over the third generation mobile communications(IMT2000). Therefore, in this paper, we preposed the interleaver that has the better performance than existing block interleaver, and modified turbo decoder that has the parallel concatenated structure using MAP algorithm. In the realtime voice and video service over third generation mobile communications, the performance of the proposed two methods was analyzed and compared with the existing methods by computer simulation in terms of reduced decoding delay using the variable decoding method over AWGN and fading channels for CDMA environments.

The turbo code, an error correction code, needs a long decoding time since the same decoding process must be repeated several times in order to obtain a good BER performance. Thus, parallel processing may be used to reduce the decoding time, in which case there may be a memory contention that requires additional buffers. The QPP interleaving has been proposed to avoid such case, but there is still a possibility of memory contention when a decoder is constructed using the so-called double flow technique. In this paper, we propose an even-odd cross mapping technique to avoid memory conflicts even in decoding using the double-flow technique. This method uses the address generation characteristic of the QPP interleaving and can be used to implement the interleaving circuit between the decoding blocks and the LLR memory blocks. When the decoder implemented by applying the double flow and the proposed methods is compared with the decoder by the conventional MDF techniques, the decoding time is reduced by up to 32% with the total area increase by 8%.

It is well known the fact that turbo codes has better performance as the number of iteration and the interleaver size increases in the AWGN channel environment. However, as the number of iteration and the interleaver size are increased, it is required much delay and computation for iterative decoding. Therefore, it is important to devise an efficient criterion to stop the iteration process and prevent unnecessary computations and decoding delay. In this paper, it proposes the efficient stop criterion algorithm for turbo codes using the maximum sign change of LLR. It is verifying that the proposal variable iterative decoding controller can be reduced the average iterative decoding number compared to conventional schemes with a negligible degradation of the error performance.

Mobile mobility and data reliability should be guaranteed as well as amounts of data services are essential in the era of smart media. In order to improve the reliability of high-speed data, strong channel coding and modulation techniques are required. In this paper, the structure of Turbo TCM decoder, applying high-order modulation techniques and the DPSAM method which improves performances in time-selective fading channels in the case of burst errors are suggested through the optimal decoding method and iteration decoding so as to improve bandwidth efficiency in Turbo Codes with excellent encoding gain. The proposed method in comparison with the existing method is that 3dB is superior in case that BER is $10^{-2}$ and the number of iterations is 3. In addition, the function is improved at approximately 6dB in case that BER is $10^{-3}$ and the number of iterations is 7. The proposed method requires additional bandwidth; however, the bandwidth loss can be overcome through Turbo TCM technology on the additional bit rate from the bandwidth loss.
