This study shows the comparison between expected and actual capacity factors of a wind farm through wind resource analyzation. The expected capacity factor comes from an 'automatic weather system' run by the Korean national weather service and a 'meteorological mast' run by a project owner. Based on this comparison and analysis, the importance of meteorological mast micro-siting and selection of wind turbine class and type, will be studied along with presenting important implications for wind farm expansion and development.
The iron oxide particles could be resulted from the corrosion of the circulating water system of a power plant. Because it may be one of the trouble materials which affect the power generation efficiency due to the deposition on steam generator tube and turbine blade, the continuous observation of its concentration is very important. The laser induced break-down detection (LIBD) technology was applied to monitor continuously the concentration of corrosion products with the detection limit of ppb level. The measurement system consists of a Nd:YAG pulsed laser, a polarizing beam splitter, a flow-type sample cell, an acoustic emission sensor, a high speed data acquisition board, a personal computer, etc.. The performance test results confirmed that this technology can be effective to monitor the corrosion product concentration of the circulating water system of a power plant.
Steam generator tubes (SGTs) in nuclear power plants (NPPs) are a boundary between the primary side generating heat by nuclear fission and the secondary side generating electric power by a turbine. The water inside the SGT is high temperature and high pressure. Therefore, defects and magnetic phases (MPs) are partly produced in non-magnetic SGT by high stresses and temperatures. This causes trouble regarding the safety of SGTs but it is difficult to detect the MP using the conventional eddy current technique (ECT). In particular, a circumferential defect (CD) and circumferential magnetic phase (CMP) cannot detected by ECT. Consequently, a new method is needed to detect CDs and CMPs in SGT. A new U-type yoke with two types of coils was designed and the reactance signal by the CMPs and CDs in the SGT material was simulated.
This paper describes the forced flame response in a turbulent premixed gas turbine combustor. The fuel was premixed with the air upstream of a choked inlet to avoid equivalence ratio fluctuations. To impose the inlet flow velocity, a siren type modulation device was developed using an AC motor, rotating and static plates. Measurements were made of the velocity fluctuation in the nozzle using hot wire anemometry and of the heat release fluctuation in the combustor using chemiluminescence emission. The test results showed that flame length as well as geometry was strongly dependent upon modulation frequency in addition to operating conditions such as inlet velocity. Convection delay time between the velocity perturbation and heat release fluctuations was calculated using phase information of the transfer function, which agreed well with the results of flame length measurements. Also, basic characteristics of the flame nonlinear response shown in the current test conditions were introduced.
Generally, the structure without the stator core Axial Field Permanent Magnet (AFPM) generator was simple and there was nearly no cogging toque. And because it had the wide driving rate area, it had been being mainly used in the small wind power generation system. However, AFPM generator with non-slotted stator can't generate high voltage at low wind speed due to long air-gap. It is the reason of output efficiency drop. Therefore, in this paper, the AFPM synchronous generator with internal rotor and dual slotted stators for the small wind turbine is studied, and deal with a cogging torque minimization through the determination of optimum pole-arc ratio.
We present a new procedure to evaluate the degradation in a lCr-lMo-0.25V steel. The method is based on the existence of the peak of reversible permeability in the differential magnetization around the coercive field strength. The apparatus is based on the detection of the voltage induced in a surface type coil using a lock-in amplifier tuned to a frequency to the exciting one. Results obtained the reversible permeability and Vickers hardness on the annealed samples show the peak interval of reversible permeability and Vickers hardness decreased as ageing time increased. The correlation between Vickers hardness and the peak interval of reversible permeability could well be evaluated non destructively.

In this study, the authors present a coupled fluid-structures-seabed interaction analysis of a monopile type of wind turbine foundations in liquefiable soils. A two dimensional analysis is performed with a nonlinear stiffness degradation model incorporated in the finite difference program Fast Lagrangian Analysis of Continua (FLAC), which captured the fundamental mechanisms of the monopiles in saturated granular soil. The effects of inertia and the kinematic flow of soil are investigated separately, to highlight the importance of considering the combined effect of these phenomena on the seismic design of offshore monopiles. Different seismic loads, such as those experienced in the Kobe, Santa Cruz, Loma Prieta, Kocaeli, and Morgan Hill earthquakes, are analyzed. The pore water pressure development, relative displacements, soil skeleton deformation and monopile bending moment are obtained for different predominant frequencies and peak accelerations. The findings are verified with results in the liter.
Diaphragm seals have great effects on the performance of large power-generation steam turbines. Hence, it is important to decrease the leakage flow through the diaphragm seals and understand the flow characteristics within the diaphragm seals. In this study, numerical analysis was carried-out with the seals of large one-body type diaphragms developed by a domestic company. CFX, which is a commercial CFD code, was used to analyze the performance and flow characteristics of the diaphragm seals for three difference clearance cases. The results of numerical analysis show variations in the performance and flow characteristics according to the changes of labyrinth seal clearance.
Two-dimensional Navier-Stokes code has been developed for analysis of turbomachinery blade rows and other internal flows. The Navier-Stokes equations are written in a Cartesian coordinate system, then mapped into a generalized body-fitted coordinate system. All direction of viscous terms are incorporated and turbulent effects are modeled using the Baldwin-Lomax algebraic model. Equation are discretized using finite difference method on the C-type grids and solved using implicit LU-ADI decomposition scheme. Calculations are made at a VKI turbine cascade flow in a transonic wind-tunnel and compared to experimental data. Present numerical scheme is shown to be in good agreement with the previous experimental results and simulates the two-dimensional viscous flow phenomena.
The effects of injection angles between $0^{\circ}$ and $9^{\circ}$, mainstream turbulent intensities between 0.36 percent and 9.3 percent and embedded longitudinal vortices on jets issuing from a single film cooling hole and from a row of inclined holes are investigated. The heat transfer coefficients around film cooling holes are affected greatly by the compound injection angles. The injected jets affected weakly by the freestream turbulence at low level. However, the heat transfer coefficients near the film cooling holes have higher values at a high turbulence intensity. The vortices generated from a delta winglet change the injected jet direction and the kidney-type vortex pattern.
