  • The full energy peak efficiency of a hyper pure germanium (HPGe) detector was calibrated in a wide energy range from 0.06 to 11 MeV. Both the experimental technique and the Monte Carlo method were used for the efficiency calibration. The measurement was performed using the standard radioisotopes in the low energy region of $60{\sim}1408$ keV, which was further extended up to 11 MeV by using the $^{14}N(n,r)\;and\;^{35}Cl(n,r)$ reactions. The GEANT Monte Carlo code was used for efficiency calculation. The calculated efficiency had the same dependency on the r-ray energy with the measurement, and the discrepancy between the calculation and the measurement was minimized by fine-tuning of the detector geometry. From the calculated result, the efficiency curve of the HPGe detector was reliably determined particularly in the high energy region above several MeV, where the number of measured efficiency points is relatively small despite the wide energy region. The calculated efficiency agreed with the measurement within about $7\%$. In addition to the efficiency calculation, the origin of the local minimum near 600 keV on the efficiency curve was analyzed as a general characteristics of a HPGe detector.

  • In RF plasma processing, when the plasma is generated, there is the difference of impedance between RF generator and plasma source. Its difference is normally reduced by using the matcher and the RF power is transferred efficiently from the power generator to the plasma source. The generated plasma has source impedance that it can be changed during processing by pressure, frequency, density and so on. If the range of source impedance excesses the matching range of the matcher, it cannot match all value of the impedance. In this research, we studied the elevation mechanism of the RF power delivery efficiency between RF generator to the plasma source by using the transmission line and impedance tuning of the plasma source. We focus on two plasma sources (capacitive coupled plasma (CCP), inductive coupled plasma (ICP)) which is most widely used in industry recently.

  • This paper deals with the design and development of an Injection-Locking Coupled Oscillators(ILCO), which functions like phase-shifter in the Active Intergrated Phased Array Antenna(AIPAA). This linear array 2-element ILCO consists of two Injection Locking Hair-pin Resonator Oscillators(ILHRO) and an unilateral amplifier. The first and second elements of the ILCO have same frequency tuning range but locking bandwidths of 11.5MHz and 14MHz respectively. A phase shift of .DELTA..PHI.=158.4.deg.(-78.0.deg. to 80.4.deg.) could be obtained inthe second element of ILCO when the first elementof the ILCO was in the reference locking mode(.DELTA..PHI.=0.deg.). When the ILCO is applied to the AIPAA, the predicted beam scanning angle value will be 38.4.deg.. Each ILCO gives good frequency stability and lower AM, FM, and PM noise charactheristics in the mutual coupling lockingmode. The ILCO can not only play a part as the phase shifter for the AIPAA but it can also be usedas the power combining device in the mm-wave frequency range and as a part of a T/R MMIC module.

  • The Anti-Rolling Tank(ART) has an advantage over the other roll stabilizing devices, when ship is staying and working at one site of sea. An important design point of ART is the tank tuning, that is, matching the tank natural period to the ship's roll natural period. Since the load condition and consequently the roll natural period of ship is to be changed widely, the natural period of ART also has to be changed widely. In case of the existing U-tube type ART with a single layer duct, the tank natural period can be changed in a relatively narrow range. This paper suggests a new U-tube type ART system using a double layer duct to enable wide change of ART natural period. Through the roll experiments performed in regular beam waves for a box-type model ship, it is shown that the double layer duct ART has about two times wider period range and a better reducing effect of roll magnitude than the single layer duct ART.

  • The EM(Engineering Model) VCO(Voltage Controlled Oscillator) is nonlinear designed for LO(Local Oscillator) of Ka-band satellite transponder. The microstripline coupled with dielectric resonator is implemented as a high impedance inverter to improve the phase noise, and the quality factor of resonant circuit can be transferred to active device with the enhanced loaded quality factor. The developed VCO has the oscillating tuning range of 9.7965~9.8032 GHz for the control voltage range of 0~12 V. This VCO requires the DC power of 8 V and 17 mA. The phase noise characteristics are -96.51 dBc/Hz @10 KHz and -116.5 dBc/Hz @100 KHz, respectively. And, the output power of 7.33 dBm is measured.

  • This paper describes fully integrated low phase noise MMIC voltage controlled oscillators(VCOs). The Asymmetrical Inductance Tank VCO(AIT-VCO), which optimize the shortcoming of the previous tank's inductance optimization approach, has lower phase noise performance due to achieving higher equivalent parallel resistance and Q value of the tank. This VCO features an output power signal in the range of - 11.53 dBm and a tuning range of 261 MHz or 15.2 % of its operating frequency. This VCO exhibits a phase noise of - 117.3 dBc/Hz at a frequency offset of 100 kHz from carrier. A phase noise reduction of 15 dB was achieved relative to only one spiral inductor. The AIT-VCO achieved low very low figure of merit of -184.6 dBc/Hz. The die area, including buffers and bond pads, is $0.9{\times}0.9mm^2$.

  • In this paper, temperature compensation circuit for the X-band voltage controlled oscillator(VCO) is presented by using the temperature sensor with the OP-AMP circuit. The frequency drifting by the temperature could be compensated by applying the tuning voltage which include the linearly changing output voltage of the temperature sensor. As a result, the frequency variation is reduced to 6.6~4.4 MHzfrom the 71~73 MHz variation with the compensation circuit over -30~+$60^{\circ}C$ range, when VCO is operated in the frequency range of 9.95~10.05 GHz.

  • We present the enhancement of narrowband modulation response of an optical source by integrating a dual-electrode distributed feedback (DFB) laser with an electro-absorption modulator (EAM). The dual-electrode DFB laser exhibits a multiple optical modes owing to a self-pulsation in GHz range. By modulating the laser and modulator sections of the integrated device simultaneously, 20-dB of narrowband modulation response enhancement at 6 GHz with 7-GHz tuning range has been observed.

  • A new discovery of the super-giant magneto-impedance (SGMI) effect was found out in a LC-resonator consisted of a glass-coated amorphous $CO_{83.2}B_{3.3}Si_{5.9}Mn_{7.6}$ microwire. The measurement was carried out at high frequency range from 100 MHz up to 1 GHz of an ac-current flowing along the wire and at varying axial dcmagnetic field in its range of $\pm$120 Oe. The wires, about 16${\mu}m$ in diameter, were fabricated by a glass-coated melt spinning technique. The shape of the impedance curves plotted vs. a dc-field is changing dramatically with the frequency. The phase angle was also strongly dependent on this field. The external dc-magnetic field changes the circumferential permeability as well as the penetration depth, both in turn change the impedance of the sample. The drastic increments of SGMI at high frequency can be understood in terms of the LC-resonance phenomena. The sudden change of the phase angle, as large as $180^{\circ}$ evidenced the occurrence of the resonance at a given intensity of the external dc-field. The maximum ratio of SGMI reached in the experiment by precise tuning frequency equals 450,000% at the frequency of around 551.9075 MHz.
