This study was conducted to establish the proper techniques of the recirculating wick hydroponics for safe seed tuber proliferation of potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L. CV. Dejima). To achieve these, several intact tubers (5, 10 and 20 g) and cut seed-pieces (two or four) were treated in wick hydroponic system beds. A polystyrene box (31cm in width, 20cm in height, 51cm in length, and $0.031m^3$ in volume) was placed on a styrofoam hox. Eight wicks $(width\;1.5cm\;{\times}\;length\;40cm) $ were put into each polystyrene hox and the boxes were filled with perlite + peatmoss (1 : 2, v/v) medium. Top fresh weight per plant increased with increasing the tuber size from 10 to 30g/tuber. As the tuber size increases from 10 to 30 g/tuher in case of uncut tuber, the marketable tuber (>5g) production per plant increased from 83.8 to 141.8 g/plant and the marketable tuber (>5g) production per plant of cut tuber was slightly higher than that of uncut treatment. Total tuber yield ranged from 4.16 to $6.56kg/m^2$ and the percentage of seed tubers was greater than $97\%$ for all treatments. These results indicate that seed tuber should be cut to produce large tuber $(\geq10g)$ in the recirculating wick hydroponic system.

This study analyzed Tuber melanosporum, Tuber aestivum, and Tuber magnatum, specifically the content of 𝛽-glucan, amino acids, nucleic acid-related substances, vitamin C, and ergosterol. The 𝛽-glucan content was highest in T. magnatum (20.54%). The free amino acid content was highest in T. aestivum, with the major amino acids being cystine, glutamic acid, and aspartic acid. The total amino acid content was the highest in T. magnatum, the primary amino acids being cystine, glutamic acid, and lysine. The content of nucleotide related compounds was the highest in T. magnatum (5.09 mg/100 g). The highest content of vitamin C (10.15 mg/100 g) and ergosterol (596.91 mg/100 g) was found in T. magnatum, which had the highest useful component content among the three truffles. Additional studies investigating the variation in useful components according to collection time and growth environment are needed.
This experiments was conducted to investigate the dormancy of Eleocharis kuroguwai tuber in the earth and the influence of seeding time and depth on the emergence of Eleocharis kuroguwai. The tuber of Eleocharis kuroguwai on underground was formed the most amount between 10cm and 15cm layer and formed the second a lot of tuber in the soil layer between 5cm and 10cm, the third between the surface of the earth and 5cm, the least between 15cm and 20cm. The total mean emergence of tuber was 78%, and the dormant tuber was approximately 22% of total tuber formed during a year in the earth. The distribution of dormant tuber under the ground was about 42% between 15cm and 20cm, 39% between 10 cm and 15cm, 14% between 5cm and 10cm, and 5% between the surface of the earth and 5cm. The dormancy percent of tuber formed at each soil layer was about 60% between 15cm and 20cm, 21% between 10cm and 15cm, 12% between 5cm and 10cm, and 7% between the surface of the earth and 5cm. The emergence days of the tuber seeded at low layer was short, and the emergence rate was high, The tuber was formed much more on seeding at May 30th than June 30th.
Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Aconiti Tuber on the plasma IL-6 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ level in mice stimulated by intracerebroventricular(I.C.V.) Injection of Lipopolysaccharide(LPS). Method: 6 mice were assigned to each of the normal group, the control group, and the experimental group. In the normal group only saline was administered intragastrically, and in the control group LPS was injected intracerebro-ventricularly 1 hr after intragastric administration of saline. In the experimental groups (Aconiti Tuber 0.5g/kg, Aconiti Tuber 1.0g/kg, Aconiti Tuber 3.0g/kg) each sample was administered intragastrically to mice 1 hr prior to the stimulation by LPS I.C.V. Injection. To measure the plasma IL-6 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ level of mice, their blood samples were collected from retro-orbital plexus, immediately centrifuged at $4^{\circ}C$, and plasma was removed and stored frozen at $-83^{\circ}C$ for later determination of plasma IL-6 and $TNF-{\alpha}$. Result : 1. LPS I.C.V. Injection increased plasma IL-6 level significantly in a dose-dependent manner compared with normal group(P<0.01). The plasma IL-6 concentration reached a significant maximal level about 1 hr after LPS I.C.V. Injection(P<0.001). LPS I.C.V. Injection increased plasma $TNF-{\alpha}$ level significantly in a dose-dependent manner(P<0.05). The plasma $TNF-{\alpha}$ concentration reached a significant maximal level about 1 hr after LPS I.C.V. Injection(P<0.001). 2. Sample A group to which Aconiti Tuber(0.5g/kg) was administered intragastrically 1 hr prior to the stimulation by LPS I.C.V. Injection showed insignificant lower plasma IL-6 level in 1 hr than control group(P<0.0635), and sample B group (Aconiti Tuber 1.0g/kg) showed significant lower plasma IL-6 level in 1 hr than control group(P〈0.05), and sample C group (Aconiti Tuber 3.0g/kg) showed significant lower IL-6 plasma level in 1 hr than control group(P<0.01). 3. sample A group to which Aconiti Tuber(0.5g/kg) was administered intragastrically 1 hr prior to the stimulation by LPS I.C.V. Injection showed insignificant lower plasma $TNF-{\alpha}$ level in 1 hr than control group(P>0.05), and Both sample B(1.0g/kg) and sample C(3.0g/kg) groups showed significant lower $TNF-{\alpha}$ plasma level in 1 hr than control group(P<0.01). These data revealed that Aconiti Tuber might have the anti inflammatory effect by reducing the plasma IL-6 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ level in a dose dependent manner in mice LPS I.C.V. Injection.
To investigate effect of water extract of Asparagi Tuber(天門冬) on human cancer cell-lines and immunocytes, this research estimated proliferation of A431 cell line, KHOS-NP cell line, mouse thymocytes and mouse splenocytes, Nitric Oxide(NO) from macrophage, apoptosis and subpopulation of the mouse thymocytes. The result were obtained as follows ; 1. Asparagi Tuber inhibited the proliferation of A431 cell line. 2. Asparagi Tuber inhibited the proliferation of KHOS-NP cell line. 3. Asparagi Tuber accelerated the proliferation of mouse thymocytes. 4. Asparagi Tuber inhibited the proliferation of mouse splenocytes. 5. Asparagi Tuber $100{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ inhibited the production of NO from macrophages in vitro, being compared NPS+IFN treated group. 6. Asparagi Tuber inhibited the production of NO from macrophages in vivo, being compared LPS+IFN treated group. 7. Asparagi Tuber accelerated the induction of apoptosis of the mouse thymocytes. 8. In subpopulation Asparagi Tuber increased $T_H$ of the mouse thymocytes, but decreased $T_C/T_S$ of the mouse thymocytes.

The effect of harvesting time on the growth, marketable tuber yield, and tuber quality of spring potato (Solanum tuberosum L. cv. Dami) were analyzed in the southern paddy fields in order to determine the optimal harvesting time. At 30-50 days after flowering, the total and marketable tuber yields of spring potato reached their maxima and commercial tuber rate was also high. External defects such as tuber malformation or crack did not occur until 40 days after flowering, but after that, secondary growth such as shooting appeared. Among the nutrient compositions of tubers, carbohydrate content accounted for more than 60% of tuber dry weight without significant difference among harvesting times until 50 days after flowering. The crude protein content decreased slightly as the harvesting time was delayed. However, the mineral nutrient content of tubers decreased with delaying harvesting time and was lowest at 30-40 days after flowering. Therefore, the optimal harvesting time of spring potato was judged to be 30-40 days after flowering, when marketable tuber size and quality were great as less affected by high temperature or waterlogging under natural environmental conditions.
To do mass multiplication of plug seedlings in potatoes, apical stem cuttings originated from virus-free microtubers were cut to one-two internodes and transplanted into the plug-tray. After 10days, we applied Chitosan and Wood Extraction on rooting and tuber formation of plug seedlings. To improve field adaptability of plug seedlings, rooted cuttings with a height of 20cm after 20days of cutting were transplanted ito the fields, We applied 500~2000ppm Chitosan on growth characteristics and tuber formation of that. The above and underground growths, such as plant height and number of leaves were significantly more vigorous after treatment with 500~1,000ppm Chitosan and 2,000ppm Wood Extraction, the spray treatment was carried out five times at intervals of four days after ten days of transplanting. T-N, K, P, Mg and Na, were higher as the concentrations of chitosan and Wood Extraction were higher. The growth and tuber yield in plug seedlings planting plot and seed potatoes planting plot were effectively highter as foliar application of Chitosan(500~2,000ppm) was done after planting the plot. T-N content in leaves and tuber was higher as the concentration of Chitosan was high. A similar tendency was shown in K, P and Mg. In the small tuber(under 30g), the number of tubers and tuber yield were relatively increased in the seed potatoes planting plot, but the large tubers(over 80g) yield was higher in the plug seedlings planting plot, and in order to increase tuber yield in plug seedlings it was necessary to add plant density to the field.

This work aimed to evaluate 11 potato families for insect resistance horticultural traits. The families were derived from crosses between introduced insect resistant and adapted genotypes. A randomized complete block design, with three replications was used. The plot consisted of 25 genotypes of a family, summing up to 75 genotypes tested per family. Two susceptible cultivars were included in the experiment as checks. The genotypes were evaluated for insect resistance, tuber yield traits, tuber appearance and tuber skin smoothness. The genetic value for the intensity of insect attack in the leaves and in the tubers was lower(higher resistance) in the 11 families than in the checks. For yield traits, there was no predominant effect among the families regarding the origin of the resistant donor species(Solanum berthaultii and/or S. chacoense). However, there was a large contribution of the C-1485-16-87 recurrent parent in crosses with resistant genotypes for tuber yield and tuber number. In relation to tuber appearance, only the family derived form the C-1485-16-87/ ND140(S. berthaultii) cross did not differ from the checks. had genetic value tuber skin smoothness, it was identified that families derived from S. berthaultii resistant parents showed higher genetic values than the check cultivars. For tuber skin smoothness, the genetic values of the families neither differed significantly from each other nor from the checks.

This study was carried out to establish of hydroponic culture system for year-round mass production of yam and for supply of disease-free seed tubers from the superior yam species. There were not difference in tuber weight between 9 hrs photoperiod(640mg) and natural photoperiod(600mg). However, longer photoperiod than 9 hrs such as 12 hrs and 15 hrs decreased tuber weight to 490 and 500g, respectively, which sugested that long photoperiod showed adverse effect for tuber enlargement. Tuber enlargement of Dioscorea opposite according to ionic strength was higher at 50% nutrient of Sanyak's standard solution. The optimal concentration of NAA for the best tuber growth showed at 100mg/L as a 560mg while control showed a relatively lower tuber growth(350mg).
