An Experimental Study of Three Buffer Pulse Tube Refrigerator (Three buffer 맥동관 냉동기에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • An experimental study was carried out to improve the cooling capacity and performance of the pulse tube refrigerator. Three buffer pulse tube refrigerator was designed and fabricated, and the experimental apparatus was constructed. This paper presents operating process of three buffer pulse tube refrigerator and results obtained with the performance test. The cooldown characteristics and load characteristics are described. The lowest temperature measured in three pulse tube refrigerator was 88K and the cooling capacity at the optimum operating condition was 27W at 120K.

A Study on the Thermal Properties of Glass for Effective Salvage Process of Flat Cathode-ray Tube (평면 음극선관의 재생률 향상을 위한 유리재료의 열적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The CRT(Cathode-ray Tube) of salvage is a process of separating the panel and funnel to recycle a cathode-ray tube. In this paper, the thermal properties of glass for CRT were studied to improve its recycling ratio. In the salvage process, several patterns of breakage, as called 'comer pull', were easily generated on the sealing surface of panel or funnel glass due to the residual tensile stress, which had correlations with some parameters of the manufacturing process of CRT and the initial material properties of glass. Finite element analyses and experimental approaches on the flit sealing process were carried out to obtain the major characteristic of glass related to the residual stress. From this study, it was identified that the thermal expansion coefficient of glass had much influence on the residual stress of panel glass after frit sealing process. Therefore, the optimal conditions of thermal properties for CRT glass were proposed to achieve an effective salvage process. By using these optimal conditions, the size of comer pull on the panel and funnel glass was reduced to 10% level compared with the original size, and the recycling ratio of CRT was increased in the salvage process.

  • The tube hydroforming process has received much attention in the automotive industry because of its advantages compared to conventional manufacturing technologies. A wide range of products such as sub-frames, camshafts, radiator frames, axles and crankshafts are made by hydroforming process. The hydroformed parts often need to be structurally joined to other components during assembly. Therefore, these automotive parts need to be manufactured with a localized attachment flange. In this study, FE forming analyses of a part with a rectangular flanged shape was performed with Dynaform 5.5. Using the optimized conditions determined numerically, hydroforming experiments were performed. Then, the characterization of defects was analyzed. Finally, the accuracy of the optimized internal pressure condition as well as that of the initial ram position were evaluated. The results demonstrated that flanged parts can be successfully produced using the tube hydroforming process.

  • Internal spline forming using a thin and long tube can cause the buckling and folding during the forming process. In the study, we proposed two different extrusion processes, and we performed the analysis in order to obtain the optimal process according to the length of land part. Using the rigid-plastic finite element simulation, the proposed processes have been compared by checking the deformed shape and stroke-road relation.

  • Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) have received considerable attention because of the advantages of high effiiciency, low pollution, cogeneration application and excellent integration with simplified reformer In this paper, we reported development of anode-tubular SOFC by wet process. For making tubular cell, Ni-cermet YSZ anode tube was fabricated using extrusion process, and YSZ electrolyte layer and LSM-YSZ composite, LSM, LSCF cathode layer were coated onto the anode supported tube using slurry dipping process and sintered by co-firing process. By using this tubular cell, we fabricated single cell consisted of the various cathode layers and 4 cell stack with an effective area of $75 cm^2$ per single cell, and evaluated their performance characteristics.

A Study on the Forming Process Optimization of a Small Tube (소구경 관단 성형공정 최적화)

  • The end shape of tube for automobile power steering system has influence on the ability of performance. In this case study, we attempted to optimize the forming process of a small tube using Taguchi experimental design methodology. A preliminary experiment was conducted and four main control factors were selected. The experiment was set up as an $L_9(3^4)$ orthogonal array, and determined the optimal levels of the four factors through the analysis of the experimental results. As a result, the performance characteristic(close adhesion power) of the product was improved about 36%. In addition, the process capability index $C_{pk}$ is enhanced from 0.94 to 6.85.

  • Tube Process(TP) is one of the processes to produce permanent magnets. Advantage claimed for this process is that it can accmplish both densification and anisotropication in one step forming. This process is distinguished from other processes since it uses deformable tube for densification of powder magnets. TP has, however, difficulties in manufacturing permanent magnets from Nd-Fe-B green powder due to folding resulted from large height reduction and localized densification. Therefore, an adequate preform is necessary to reduce folding resulted from large height reduction and localized densification. Therefore, an adequate preform is necessary to reduce folding, lead magnets into almost desired final shape and get uniform densification. In this paper, preform design for TP is carried out without a deformable tube to investigate the behaviour of magnet sinter-forging. Preform design is accomplished to increase the effective magnet area with a near net shape and uniform densification.

Effect of Thin Wall Tube on Clay Soil Disturbance during Sampling (점성토 시료추출관이 시료교란에 미치는 영향)

  • The total recovery ratio test on undisturbed clay soil sampling in the field and the finite element method analysis on modified static state of penetration process were conducted for the purpose of deciding the most important factor among the shape factors of thin wall tube. The adhesion between tube wall and soil did not decrease although internal clearance ratio of tube increased within the little change of tube area ratio. The most part of disturbance occurred in the tip of sampling tube during the penetration. The longitudinal displacement was larger than the lateral displacement because soil was confined laterally after being entered into tube, and also the longitudinal displacement was larger in the upper part of the sample tube than in the lower part.

  • Recently, the hydroforming of high strength aluminum tubes has many studies and applications in manufacturing industry, especially in automotive industry. But high strength aluminum tube has limited expansion capability at most 15% at normal temperature. New manufacturing process, called hot air forming, is introduced to apply aluminum tube to the automotive sub frame components which have complex shape and require high expansion ratio about 40%. The process is carried out at the elevated temperature above $500^{\circ}C$, so numerous material properties and process parameters related to high temperature should be investigated and determined to get a sound product. In this paper, the hot air forming process of automotive sub frame was investigated. The effect of the forming parameters such as the temperature of tool, axial feeding and gas pressure are analyzes by using explicit finite element method.
