Reexpansion pulmonary edema is a rare complication of the treatment of lung collapse secondary to pneumothordx, pleural effusion, or atelectasis but occasionally life threatening. Generally, reexpansion pulmonary edema is believed to o cur only when a chronically collapsed lung is rapidly reexpanded by evacuation or large amounts of air or fluid. This complication is heralded by tachypnea, unilateral rales, and profuse expectoration of frothy secretion within several hours of reexpansion. Increased dur- ation of pneumothorax and the use o( suction are important factors in the generation of reexpansion pulmonary edema. We had experienced 3 cases of reexpansion pulmonary edema. In the two cases the pneumothorax had been present for several days, and, after insertion of a chest tube, pulmonary edema developed unilaterally but improved with supplemental oxygen. In the third case, massive pleural effusion was present. and, after insertion of a chest tube, pulmonary edema developed unilaterally, followed by cardiac arrest. He died of pulmonary edema inspire of resuscitation.

1be ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is a rare but serious complication of ovulation induction therapy with gonadotropin. The clinical manifestations are generalized edema, ascites with pleural effusion and may become life-threatening in severe cases. The pathophysiology is still unknown, therefore, the treatment should be symptomatic and conservative. We report a case of severe OHSS with massive right pleural effusion in excess of ten liters after human menopausal gonadotropin therapy because of secondary infertility. Fluid and electrolyte imbalances were corrected and albumin was administered. A right chest tube was placed for a total of sixteen days, draining eleven liters of pleural effusion totally, resulting a dramatic decrease of pleural effusion and improvement of symptoms.

The conventional neon transformer systems are very bulky and heavy because it consist of leakage type transformers made of silicon steel plates. In addition, it has problems in noise by a neon transformer and in possibilities of fire and electrical shock when neon tubes are destroyed. A protection circuit is designed for all types of neon transformer loaded with one or more neon tubes. Whenever the neon tube fails to be started up, comes to the life end, encounters faults with open-circuits at the output terminals of the neon transformer, the protection circuit will be initiated to avoid more critical hazards. The input of the transformer is automatically cut off when the abnormal condition occurs, preventing waste of no-load power. To improve such problems, in this paper, a new type of neon power supply systems for neon tube is designed and implemented using inverter type circuits and a newly designed lightweight transformer. In the developed neon transformer system, a 60[Hz]power input is converted to 20[KHz]high frequency using half-wave inverters, thereby the transformer reduces its size by 1/5 in volume and 1/10 in weight.
This study examines the changes that $^{99m}Tc$ causes to CT(Computed Tomography) images quantitatively when CT scans were continuously performed using $^{99m}Tc$. With the use of the CT, $^{99m}Tc$ 740MBq was injected into the Resolution Phantom and Water Phantom, and the tube voltage was changed with 80 kVp and 120 kVp, scanning before and after the injection. The result indicate, by comparing the Signal Intensity according to the presence or absence of the $^{99m}Tc$ injection with the tube voltage of 120 kVp and 80 kVp, a decrease of 0.173 and 0.241 was observed respectively and the spatial resolution increase of 0.090 and 0.109 was observed respectively. The order of the test should be considered because the gamma rays of the radiopharmaceutical used in the nuclear medicine test do not affect the CT while the effective half-life of the radiopharmaceuticals should be considered for the CT scan to reduce the influence of the gamma rays emitted after the nuclear medicine test, with the possibility to reduce the difference of the results.

Concrete-filled square stainless steel tubes (CFSSST), which possess relatively large flexural stiffness, high corrosion resistance and require simple joint configurations and low maintenance cost, have a great potential in constructional applications. Despite that the use of stainless steel may result in high initial cost compared to their conventional carbon steel counterparts, the whole-life cost of CFSSST is however considered to be lower, which offers a competitive choice in engineering practice. In this paper, a comprehensive experimental and numerical program on 24 CFSSST stub column specimens, including 3 austenitic and 3 duplex stainless steel square hollow section (SHS) stub columns and 9 austenitic and 9 duplex CFSSST stub columns, has been carried out. Finite element (FE) models were developed to be used in parametric analysis to investigate the influence of the tube thickness and concrete strength on the ultimate capacities more accurately. Comparisons of the experimental and numerical results with the predictions made by design guides ACI 318, ANSI/AISC 360, Eurocode 4 and GB 50936 have been performed. It was found that these design methods generally give conservative predictions to the ultimate capacities of CFSSST stub columns. Improved calculation methods, developed based on the Continuous Strength Method, have been proposed to provide more accurate estimations of the ultimate resistances of CFSSST stub columns. The suitability of these proposals has been validated by comparison with the test results, where a good agreement between the predictions and the test results have been achieved.
Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is an aromatic herb belonging to the Lamiaceae family. This study evaluated the therapeutic effect of oregano essential oil (OEO) on clinical bovine mastitis caused by Staphylococcus (S.) aureus and/or Escherichia (E.) coli. Thirty-two quarters from 18 lactating cows with subclinical mastitis were selected from a dairy farm and were divided into 4 groups (8 quarters/group): negative control (CON), positive control (GEN) and two OEO-treated groups (OEO-1 and OEO-2). Each group was intramammarily treated with saline, 10 g/tube of gentamicin ointment, and single and double doses of 0.9 mL OEO ointment twice a day for three days, respectively. After the treatments, physical udder conditions were greatly improved in GEN and OEO groups. In CON group, somatic cell counts (SCCs), number of white blood cells (WBC) and bacteria were increased. However, in OEO groups, SCCs and number of WBC were significantly decreased and S. aureus and E. coli were not detected in milk as compared with those before the treatments as well as GEN group. These results suggest that OEO may be a useful alternative to antibiotics for the control of subclinical bovine mastitis caused by S. aureus and/or E. coli.
Two Unrecorded species from Jeju Province are reported: Maesa japonica of Maesaceae which is unrecorded family and Cardamine tanakae of Brassicaceae. Monotypic family Maesaceae, is distinguished from Myrsinaceae and Primulaceae by having pedicels with a pair of bracteoles, flowers without staminodia, semi-inferior ovary and indehiscent fruits with many seeds. M. japonica is readily distinguishable from M. salicifolia in China and M. montana var. formosana in Taiwan and Japan by shapes of blades, corolla and bracteoles, the presence/absence of serrulation of leaf margins, ratio of length of corolla tube and corolla lobes, feature and color of fruit surface. C. tanakae is most similar to Korean endemic C. glechomifolia in morphology, however, the two taxa are readily distinguishable by the number of leaflets of cauline leaves, size of terminal leaflets, number of flowers per inflorescence, the presence of whitish hairs on ovary and fruits.
Residual life assessment of reformer tubes of mod HP steel used in the refinery and petrochemical industry were investigated by quantitative metallographic evaluation method. Area fractions of precipitated carbides were measured by using surface replication and its relationship with the remaining life of the tube was investigated. The microstructures of the virgin and other tubes were examined using optical microscopy (OM) for service periods of 1.8, 6.0, 7.2, 8.5, 9.7, and 16.2 years at 950 ℃ and the area fractions of the precipitates were measured by image analysis using ImageJ software. As the area fraction of the precipitates increased, the residual life was decreased accordingly. The results showed that the LMP was the highest in the virgin and the LMP decreased as the service time increased and the residual life decreased. A regressional equation showing the relation between the area fraction of carbides and LMP was experimentally derived. The obtained relationship can be used with the surface replication method for on-site residual life assessment.

A 77-year-old female presented panperitonitis due to advanced gastric ranter during palliative care. In the case of panperitonitis following obstruction or perforation, surgical treatment is vital to avoid fatal sepsis and dehydration. However, the risk of surgery and the residual life of a patient must be carefully considered because of high mortality and complication rate in those patients with advanced disease due to the poor condition. The therapeutic value of aggressive hydration, nasogastric tube insertion, and the use of antibiotics is also questionable. Palliative surgery was not performed on this case, and she passed away peacefully in the presence of family after 4 days of palliative medical care. Here is the appropriate management for this kind of patients we would like to recommend through review of relevant references and long discussions. Firstly, we need to predict survival time using clinical variables. Secondly, considering patient status and risk of surgery, non surgical palliative care such as pain control, transient nasogastric tube insertion, and parenteral hydration is recommended. Minimal use of fluid is desirable to minimize complications such as edema and dyspnea if massive hydration in the beginning of treatment is not proved to be effective. Even though started earlier in the course of disease, discontinuation of antibiotics could be discussed with patients and their caregiver if patient status is not improved.
