  • The present paper presents the experimental results of pressure drip of water flow in annuli with spirally corrugated inner tubes in the turbulent flow regime. To understand the underlying physical phenomena responsible for heat transfer enhancement, pressure drop data documented elsewhere are combined to compare with those obtained from the present experiment for the Reynolds numbers of 1,000 to 8,000. Friction factors were found to be functions of trough depth, pitch and angle, and the annulus radius ratio. Friction factor increases in the spirally fluted tubes were larger than those in the corrugated tubes.

  • Nuclear steam generator tubes have experienced wear degradation at tube support structure. Morphology of wear scar was analyzed by using eddy current signal. A burst test facility for steam generator tubes was established and tubes with 3 types of defects were tested. The burst test results show that the depth of wear scar is the main factor influencing the burst pressure of tubes, meanwhile, both the longitudinal length and the angle also have effect on the burst pressure. Based on test results, the burst pressure equation for wear degradation was proposed.

  • To insure accuracy in dental roentgenographs, it is important that the patient's head position and angulation of the x-ray tube. In 1907 Cieszynski applied the rule of isometry to dental radiography and established that in the production of an accurate image of a tooth, the central ray must be porjected perpendicularly to a plane bisecting angle formed by the longitudinal axis of the tooth and the film plane. Proper exposure of the film is a part of the production of a good dental radiograph, and correct processing also makes an essential contribution to the quality of the radiograph. The author analysed the failure of exposure and processing results, and recommended followings. 1. The patient head must be positioned that occlusal plane are parallel with the horizontal floor. 2. Central ray must be projected to the objective tooth and supporting structure and projected as perpendicularly to tooth axis and film surface as possible. 3. In processing, the temperature of the solution and the processing time must be correct.

  • Recently western countries are now beginning to use ACM (Advanced Composite Material) in the construction industry. Compared with conventional construction materials, ACM possesses many advantages such as light-weight, high-strength, corrosion resistant properties, etc. Among other fabrication process of ACM, pultrusion is one of the promising one for civil infrastructure application. In this paper, the structural characteristics of pultruded glass fiber reinforced composite structural member of angle and tube type were studied. Experiments for compression were performed for those members along with finite element buckling analysis with ABAQUS. The experimental and analytic results were compared each other and they were also compared with predicted values using coded formulae.

  • The effect of wettability of deinking agents which formed with various nonionic surfactants against the pulp fibers and ink particles were studied, And the effect of flotation processes on the deinking were also investigated. The wettabilities of the deinking agents against the water and ink particles were measured by Washburn tube and sessile drop techniques, respectively. As the water absorption increased (i.e., hydrophilicity increased), the ink removal increased, which indicates that the ink removal is strongly affected by the detachment process due to the swelling of the pulp. Also, when the contact angle of air/ink/deinking agent increased, the hydrophobicity of the ink particles increased, the efficiency of the ink removal and the brightness increased.

  • In roll forming process, a sheet metal is continuously progressively formed into a product with required cross-section and longitudinal shape, such as a circular tube with required diameter, wall-thickness and straightness, by passing through a series of forming rolls in arranged in tandem. In this process, each pair of forming rolls installed in a forming machine play a particular role in making up the required cross-section and longitudinal shape of the product. In recent years, that process is often applied to the bumper rail in the automotive industries. In this study, a optimal SILL SIDE manufacturing technology, model deign and proper roll-pass sequences can be suggested by forming number of roll-pass and bending angle. And also effects of the process parameters on the final shape formed by roll forming defects were evaluated.

The tested heat pipe was made of a copper tube with the outer diameter of 12.7 mm, the length of 340 mm, and the sintered metal wick had the thickness of 0.7 mm. This experiment was conflicted under the thermal load, inclined angle and cooling conditions.

  • Cap-assisted endoscopy refers to a procedure in which a short tube made of a polymer (mostly transparent) is attached to the distal tip of the endoscope to enhance its diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities. It is reported to be particularly useful in: (1) minimizing blind spots during screening colonoscopy, (2) providing a constant distance from a lesion for clear visualization during magnifying endoscopy, (3) accurately assessing the size of various gastrointestinal lesions, (4) preventing mucosal injury during foreign body removal, (5) securing adequate workspace in the submucosal space during endoscopic submucosal dissection or third space endoscopy, (6) providing an optimal approach angle to a target, and (7) suctioning mucosal and submucosal tissue with negative pressure for resection or approximation. Here, we review various applications of attachable caps in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and their future implications.

  • In this paper, a method of shape prediction of an endoscope handling robot that can imitate a surgeon's behavior using a sensor network is suggested. Unit sensors, which are composed of a 3-axis magnetometer and 3-axis accelerometer pair comprise the network through CAN bus communication. Each unit of the sensor is used to detect the angle of the points in the longitudinal direction of the robot, which is made from a flexible tube. The signals received from the sensor network were filtered using a low pass Butterworth filter. Here, a Butterworth filter was designed for noise removal. Finally, the Euler angles were extracted from the signals, in which the noise was filtered by the low path Butterworth filter. Using this Euler angle, the position of each sensor on the sensor network is estimated. The robot body was assumed to consist of links and joints. The position of each sensor can be assumed to be attached to the center of each link. The position of each link was determined using the Euler angle and kinematics equation. The interpolation was carried out between the positions of the sensors to be able to connect each point smoothly and obtain the final posture of the endoscope in operation. The experimental results showed that the shape of the colonoscope can be visualized using the Euler angles evaluated from the sensor network suggested and the shape of serial link estimated from the kinematics chain model.
