Propagation Characteristics of the Impulse Wave Discharged from the Inclined Exit of a Pipe (관의 경사출구로부터 방출되는 펄스파의 전파특성)

  • The propagation of the impulse wave discharged from the Inclined exit of a pipe is investigated through shock tube experiment and numerical computations. The pressure histories and directivities of the impulse wave propagating outside from the exit of pipe with several different configurations are analyzed for the range of the incident shock wave Mach number between 1.1 and 1.4. In the shock tube experiments, the impulse waves are visualized by a Schlieren optical system for the purpose of validation of computational work. Computations using the two-dimensional. unsteady, compressible, Euler equations are carried out to represent the experimented impulse waves. Computed Schlieren images predict the experimented impulse waves with a good accuracy. The results obtained show that for the radial direction the peak pressure of the impulse wave discharged depends upon the Inclined angle of the exit of the pipe. but for the axial direction it is almost constant regardless of the inclined angle of the pipe exit.

A study on reducing temperature rise of twin-glass evacuated tube solar collector during summer time (이중진공관형 태양열 집열기의 하절기 과열 방지에 대한 연구)

  • The reflection plate in twin-glass evacuated tube solar collector is controlled to reduce the overheat during the summer time. The sliding type and folding types are suggested and tested. The sliding type changes the plate angle and the folding type changes the opening angle of the reflection plate. By scattering the focus of the reflected radiation from the reflection plate, the temperature rise of the working fluid can be reduced. The sliding type shows the best results in overheat reduction. When solar radiation is 900 $W/m^2$, the temperature rise in one sliding type collector is reduced about $2^{\circ}C$ compared to that of the normal solar collector. When this method is applied to seven series-collectors in the field, the reduction of temperature rise during the summer time should be significant.

The Assessment of Tube Incidence Angle for Minimizing the Patellofemoral Joint Overlap Distance in Merchant View (Merchant 검사 시 슬개대퇴관절 겹침 최소화를 위한 중심 X선 입사각에 대한 평가)

  • This study aimed to found out the effect of patellofemoral overlap distance by changing femur thickness and center X-ray angles in Merchant method images. Based on the femur thickness, it suggested tube angle minimizes overlap. It was conducted by Merchant method, a knee tangential view, and the image was obtained by changing the thigh thickness from 14 to 20 cm and the center ray angle from 60°, 57°, 55°. The images were measured by five researchers using a method of measuring the overlap, which was designed by them. The results showed at 60°, 57°, 55° angle, the patellofemoral overlap distance resulted in 0.47±0.66 to 20.89±0.65 cm, 2.26±0.28 to 15.73±0.62 cm, 1.39 ± 0.83 to 12.49 ± 0.37 cm. However, for 57° and 55°, no overlap in thickness under 14.5 and 14 to 15.5 didn't appear. it showed high correlation between femur thickness and overlap. The difference in the mean value of overlap in each group showed a statistically significant difference (p<0.01), all were classified as independent groups in the post-hoc test. In all images, the patellofemoral overlap distance increased as the thickness increased, and at the average thickness of Korean men and women, overlap decreased when reducing center ray. When conducting Merchant tests on Koreans, it was suggested it would be useful to use 57° angle because it minimize the effects of overlap and intrusions of tibia.

  • Thermal deformations and stresses due to temperature changes are the serious problems in cryogenic structures such as the torque tube in a superconducting generator, In this paper, the equations of thermal expansion coefficients expressed only by material properties and winding angles are derived for the filament wound composite tubes. The experimental results of thermal contraction of CFRP tubes are compared with those from theoretical approach. Composite tubes with optimally regulated thermal expansion coefficient are designed on the basis of the study for the torque tube in the superconducting generator with temperature distributions varying from 300K to 4.2 K. The filament winding angle of composites resisting thermal stresses properly is sought by the finite element method using layered shell elements. The results show that the composite tubes designed for the requirements in cryogenic environments can effectively cope with the thermal stress problem.

  • A direct draft measurement system was developed based on the swingle tree- the rear component of the single-animal harnessing (or yoking) system . The prototype was made from a tube, on which four strain gages were attached. The pull of the draft animal through the flexible pull chains or ropes causes the beam to bend, The bending strain is sensed by the strain gages and the bridge converts this to a voltage signal. Counterweights keep the tube correctly oriented if the angle of pull changes , while end bearing follow the variations in the angle of pull. Hence, the voltage output is proportional to the draft. the device has highly linear response, acceptable sensitivity negligible error and hysteresis. It is suitable for electronic data acquisition, non-intrusive , easy to attach and detach and is reasonably priced.

  • The purpose of the present study is to investigate the flow resistance and the heat transfer characteristics of V type circular fin-tube heat exchanger. Four kinds of V type fin having the same fin area and the different span wise angle tested numerically. Test data for the heat transfer, pressure drop and fin temperature were shown and discussed. The pressure drop and heat transfer increased for decreasing the span wise angle up to 58% and 25% respectively.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate experimentally atomization characteristics for differently made an ultrasonic twin-fluid nozzle. A spray system, an ultrasonic system, and three different type(Nozzle type, Tube type, Conventional type)are made and tested by applied with ultrasonic energy. In this investigation, the measurement and calculation of spray droplet are to analyze the effects of ultrasonic energy on the agricultural atomization system. Through the measurement of suray angle, spray column using, high speed camera and PDA, it is found that nozzle type is highest efficiency than that of tube type and conventional type. It was found that the ultrasonic energy increased the atomization efficiency of spray droplets about 9% respectively and spray angle was wide spray.

  • This work presents the influence of noise originating from the tube itself on the detectability and sizing accuracy for laboratory-induced outer diameter axial cracks in nuclear steam generator tubes. The variations of signal amplitude and phase angle of the same cracks were analyzed when increasing the signal-to-noise ratio of the tube itself from 9 to 18. It was experimentally verified that the detectability for small cracks was enhanced by increasing the signal-to-noise ratio. The phase angle also rotated to a value representing the actual position and depth of a crack when increasing the signal-to-noise ratio.

  • The purpose of this study is to optimize Nd:YAG laser welding parameters to seaz a Rf source into a Ti micro capsule. Ti tube ends can be sealed as some length of ぉbe end is melted and coalesced. The exact control of the melted length is the most important to get sound sealing. The Nozzle type, tube rotating speed, tilt angle, focal position, pumping voltage, pulse frequency and pulse width were selected as the Nd:YAG laser welding Parameters. These Parameters were optimized by the Taguchi experimental method using 115 orthogonal array. Appearance and cross section of the seated tube ends were examined by SEM.

  • A unique process was developed to improve the mechanical properties of a circular tube. In this proposed process, a large amount of strain is applied to the wall of tube, leading to grain refinement in the material. In order to investigate characteristics of microstructural evolution such as the distribution of grain size and misorientation angle during the process, an EBSD OIM analysis was carried out. The analysis confirms that the proposed process can very effectively produce a circular tube with ultrafine-grains.
