Quantitative characteristics of particle size distribution by the wear mode transition (마모유형 천이에 따른 입자크기분포의 정량적 특성)

  • Wear simulation test have been conducted in mild, severe and transient wear regions by a four-ball wear tester. Wear particles are separatively deposited by the RPD technique, and quantitatively analysed in terms of wear particles size distribution. Characteristics of the wear particle size distribution are compare to the results of wear tests through both weibull parameters and center moment method of the weibull distribution function.

  • In this paper, it is described how the problems appeared at the previous proto type sensor are improved. As changing the pressure and temperature of engine oil in a test rig, the modified sensor is tested. Then, the measured results of capacitance and the corresponding dielectric constants under various temperatures and pressures are shown. It turns out that the electrical signal gotten from the electrodes of newly developed sensor can be more stable under the various operating conditions.

  • Friction characteristic of an engine crankshaft bearing is affected by revolution speed, applied loads, and viscosity of lubrication. So, experimental investigation is required to observe the friction characteristics using these factors. Hydraulic cylinder, servo controller system which can be modified the applied load, and test rig for the observation of the characteristics of engine crankshaft bearings were designed and fabricated, and some experiments were performed. Friction torque, journal locus and circumferential temperature variation of crankshaft bearing were measured according to applied load, revolution speed, and oil inlet temperature.

  • The metal-dithiophosphates as lubricant additives for reducing friction and wear, increasing load-carrying capacity and a antioxidant are very important as new additives developed in these day. The synthetic results of Metal-DTPs were described. The wear test was conducted with 4-Ball machine and wear debris were analyzed by ferrography. The tribological performances of Metal-DTPs were compared with Zn-DTP.

  • The fretting wear characteristics of STS304 steel in seawater were investigated experimentally. A fretting wear tester was designed to be suitable for this fretting test. This study was focused on the effects due to the combination of normal load, slip amplitude and number of cycles and corrosive environment as the main factors of fretting. The results of this study showed that the wear volume increased abruptly at slip amplitude between 70 $\mu\textrm{m}$∼100 $\mu\textrm{m}$ by fracture of oxide layers but above that slip amplitude the wear volume increased steadily.

  • Applying design methodology, new type friction tester has been developed. Functional analysis has been executed and functional structure were constructed during the conceptual design. Optimal solution has been selected and a proto model has been manufactured according to the conceptual design. Using the proto model, experiments have been carried out and the test results were proved to be satisfied and reliable.

  • In development process of engine lubrication system, many failure cases are related with aeration problem. Therefore, it is very important to clarify the aeration in the engine oil circuit system. As of today, many factors have been introduced as the major cause in the engine oil aeration. However, still many test data related with those are required to clearly understand it. In this paper the aeration measurement system and calculation method are introduced. And also using this system we measured engine oil aeration for various cases. From these results some conclusions are reduced.

  • The soluble Mo-DTP compounds as lubricant additives for reducing friction and wear, increasing loadcarrying capacity, and as antioxidants is very important as a new additive developed in these day. The method of the compounds are described and the composition is analyzed with $^{31}$P NMR spectrometer. The wear test is conducted with 4-ball machine and the debris are analyzed by ferrography. Also the tribological performance of Mo-DTP compounds are compared with Moly Van L and Zn-DTP.

  • The analysis of statically indeterminate bearing-shaft system was investigated. The moment loads and misalignment angles which were induced in the ball bearings were determined, and the influence of span length of this system on the moment loads and fatigue lives was identified. The sliding and spinning speeds between balls and raceways which affected the performance of ball bearing evaluated. The equation to estimate the cage speed of ball bearing under moment loads was proposed. This equation had been verified by the test results of measuring of cage speed, which was useful to the prediction of ball bearing under moment loads.

  • This paper presents friction and wear related results of thermite and gas pressure welded rails under various environmental contact conditions. A welded rail which was fabricated by thermite welding and gas pressure one has been tested over full range of test conditions in a pin-on-disk wear testing machine. The results show that the friction coefficient and wear rates of a welded rail are heavily dependent on the contact pressures and sliding environments for two welding methods such as thermite and gas pressure weldings.
